Reading the polemics against stoicism by Cicero and Plutarch, there is not one contemporary philosopher that comes anywhere near the discipline and asceticism they describe. In fact, the people today who call themselves stoics are merely following the doctrine of moderation prescribed by their critics.

Hey OP where can I get a μολὼν λαβέ decal that matches the paint on my F350 dualie?

What's your point? Practically no one anywhere lives up to any philosophical or religious system.
>>25626031
Plutarch and Cicero also criticized Epicureanism. Not that you have an understanding of it beyond cherry-picked motivational quotes of Epicurus's more coherent sayings.

Epicurus solved everything, that's why they burned his works

Cicero was a larper, anyway.

>Epicurus solved everything
>that's why they burned his works
So you're just imagining Epicurus was actually the most brilliant philosopher to ever live.

Stoicism gives you poor tools on how to cope within a broken system.

seek a philosophy that diagnosis the framework and gives you the tools to change it or make it better, seek Marxism

Marxism is satanic

Epicurus was also loathed by Platonists such as Galen though. Epicureanism is a major breakaway from Platonist and Aristotlean traditions.

What do you claim he was larping as?

A Stoic.

How was Cicero larping as a stoic when he wrote De Finibus, which mocks Cato for being a stoic?
>>
>>25627672
His phony skepticism doesn't prevent him from being larping as a stoic. Read De Officiis.

Nta, but that's silly, Cicero's skepticism wasn't anything phony, he was a student of one of the last teachers of skeptical Platonism.

I've noticed this too OP. Pop stoicism is literally Epicureanism: practicing moderation and discipline in order to find peace and minimize the suffering in your life

why? the usual name is Christian

No actually that's way off the mark

Stoicism gives you the simple and logical understanding that you can't control what's outside of your control. I have no idea why this basic idea, which is in fact infallible, not only filters but mindbreaks countless men.

Try monks, stoic tenants appear to be foundational to Christianity
>>
>>25632683
Stoic ethics and psychology were almost completely absorbed by monasticism, but there is so much other stuff in there, depending on who you talk to or what you read, that you could not say that monks are stoics in any straightforward sense. There is also some borrowing from the thought world of Stoicism in Saint Paul.

In effect, I do. I made you post, and I made you mad. But that was your choice. If you had focused on what you can control, like a man, you wouldn't mistakenly believe that acting like a retard could force me to have the emotional reaction you were seeking.
