When I google his work all I see is this and it makes me feel funny gay feelings even though I'm straight.

Apparently he's all about "the outside", but I'm all about "the inside" - and thus, we are incompatible. (but he can be my twink).

He was an okay artist (painter and novelist), but the strongest critic who ever wrote English in my opinion.

Looks a bit swarthy

. . . He [Wyndham Lewis] would, too, when out of doors, draw his stick along the railings, with what he hoped was a flash of teeth. But always, just as the teeth were about to flash, the sun went in, so that the phenomenon was not observable, or his shoe-laces came undone and he was forced to do them up, so that the people on the top of the passing omnibus who had been intended to witness and to admire the flash could not see it. His life was full of little disappointments of this kind.

~ Edith Sitwell, ‘Taken Care Of: An Autobiography’

I don't know who that is, so clearly he wasn't a significant enough individual to be remembered. Sorry dusty boy, back to your coffin.

He had this idea that literature was supposed to prioritize the visual sense - there’s a disgusting passage where he says he treats the pleasures of his eye as Marquis de Sade his genitals - which is just completely wrong, or right only so far as he’s trying to resist subjective psychologicalism (he basically puts himself in total opposition to Finnegans Wake which is abstract verbal music). His method is interesting because it’s all these visual descriptions charged with complex ideas (I’m remembering) so like no visual sense that’s ever existed. There’s really nothing like it but its doesn’t work, or it only works because of how smart he is. He was more intelligent than Joyce but much worse as an artist. Joyce was very hurt by his criticism of Ulysses - in convos with Joyce book there’s a part where he sighs deeply and say “Well I guess my work is middle class” which comes straight from Lewis. Hemingway obviously was offended (the criticism in this case was more “brutal” - he showed how the charm of his style was straight from Stein and the psychology that of a little boy/dumb ox) but the most cutting attack was at Faulkner’s expense: it ends as I recall with “he is a moralist with a corncob!” connecting the impotent gangster from Sanctuary who rapes Temple Drake with a corncob with Faulkner himself trying to get revenge, by the will to power of moralism, on the 1920s equivalent of SEC sorority sluts.

Sounds like Pound's intentions with the Cantos:

>We seem to have lost the radiant world where one thought cuts through another with clean edge, a world of moving energies 'mezzo oscuro rade,' 'risplende in se perpetuale effecto,' magnetisms that take form, that are seen, or that border the visible, the matter of Dante's Paradiso, the glass underwater, the form that seems a form seen in a mirror, these realities perceptible to the sense, interacting, 'a lui si tiri.' . . .

Well they did collaborate and agree on ideas (like the Vortex) - though I think the result is quite different:

On the other hand Lewis said of Pound, actually repeating what someone told him: that he never encountered someone whose ideas of art contrasted so much from his practice. Lewis said Pound was musician who accidentally became a poet; then he spread the slogan “Make It New” but was entirely obsessed with history and past civilizations. Pound was never offended by Lewis’ aggressive criticism

lewis was retarded on most issues. he accused ulysses of the most bland and inept criticism, just showing off, which is pathetic for someone who's supposed to be a literary expert
