If you've got something that you believe in that keeps you from hanging yourself then that's a pretty powerful thing. Just don't get in my face about it and make it my problem

faith in god? worse than suicide, its intellectual suicide.

yeah fear and cowardice is pretty fucking powerful, or so I heard

met a christian the other week who kept going on and on about how sinful her “urges” were for wanting to confide in her friends instead of praying in a dark closet or whatever

i think meaning is a collective problem. it's pretty bleak and overwhelming to try to piece together into a meaningful whole whatever random flux of individual experience is churned up by an indifferent economy. that's why people end up clinging to paper-thin caricatures of outmoded tradition, or schizo personal belief systems, or stupefying regimes of self-medication - all of which can be pulled out from under your feet at any moment. meaning needs to be created collectively, just like any other complex structure. of course that doesn't mean imposing the same meaning on everyone.

it is “our” problem
humans are tribal creatures but the tribal unit has been demolished
we’re not meant to live this alone and atomized
in our evolutionary history, being as alone as we are now meant straight up death and your body knew it and prepared for it mentally
having a kid and wife instantly grounded me in a way i’m happy with

A significant part of the "male loneliness epidemic" is that videogames have kept a bunch of men from killing themselves. This doesn't say anything particularly good about videogames because many of these men would have found more productive hobbies if they didn't exist, some would have escaped the situations they are in through those hobbies, but it remains true that for every 2000 hours logged from a single account on some Fallout 4 or Factorio or even Mount and Blade there is one human life still here that otherwise would be gone. But a lonely one.

What if I don't even play video games that much because I'm spending 90% of my free time browsing and posting on 4chan? This seems like an even lower form of existence, if you ask me. At least gamers are accomplishing things, even if it's in a pretend world. 4chan browsing is just a complete time sink with nothing to show for it but a bunch of people calling you a faggot.

Neither are good. I don't think it's good to consider what happens in the course of playing a game an accomplishment. Whatever it is though, no you don't get that by posting here. But if you post here you will sometimes encounter actual human discussion, and can be reminded that human contact is sometimes valuable, or be exposed to new things. Maybe both are the same as being at the bottom of a well, but in this case one of the two has a rope hanging down into it. Even if that's the darker well it still seems better to me.

Living as a chauvinist settler in Algeria and exploiting the indigenous population is all a necessary alternative to killing yourself?

Why stop when you can endlessly apply ideologies to faceless strangers that never dare break the ice with you? Why not endlessly bathe in the words and ideas that people think instinctively rather than hear their rehearsed lies about themselves?

Camus was from a working class family and advocated for the Algerian people all his life. Stop making shit up just to have le heckin based retort
>>

That doesn't matter. Look at what happened last summer of floyd. all the heckin anti racist whites from the past got torn down with the rest. merely being white and existing in an unjust system is enough

This is really what makes this place addicting. So much garbage but you hear some real shit. I bet the most common trait among the userbase is an aversion to small talk and superficialites
