I'm going to start Athenaze chapter 2 tonight.
Also, any Latin teachers here? How would you work in some conversational Latin for a third year G-T based course? Some of my students have expressed interest but I'm not sure what I would do beyond very basic things like introducing oneself.
In addition, I've read a few papers talking about how CI-based courses are better but next to nothing about how such courses are implemented, particularly for classical languages. Can anyone rec any resources on that front? Thanks.

Censorinus
Funny.

Does anyone know of any good bookstores that carry Latin books in the Toronto area? I'm here on a trip for a few days.

Anaxagoras is definitely one of my favorite ancients. He held that the elements that make men (hair particles, skin particles, blood, etc) exist within all things and that they just constantly get recombined in different ways. Example, when you eat bread the physical pieces of hair, skin, whatever go to your stomach and are sorted out to their places.

>> Anaxagoras autem eius parentis faciem referre liberos iudicavit, qui seminis amplius contulisset.

This would naturally be the end result of his biology theory. Lmao He isn’t even that wrong. You can change “hair particles” to potassium, sodium, etc. and his basic theory is technically correct.

Hogs get much larger and hairier when they go feral so imagine how terrifying a proper ancient european boar could have been

As a matter of fact, I wanted to read the Kalevala regardless and I was looking into which translation was best--that is how I stumbled onto Pekkanen's translation to begin with.
At any rate, in the introduction he starts by citing scholarly articles on the Kalevala, and then proceeds to describe Finnish meter and why he believes that Latin matches it well--which is exactly the type of autism I like in a translator.
The actual poem is kicking my butt though. The syntax is simple, but the vocabulary is pretty broad (or at least broader than what I am used to), so for now I am leaving it aside. It reads quite nicely nonetheless, do if any anon wants to read it I can wholeheartedly recommended it. The link is in my original post.

just from looking up the author and skimming the preface alone this looks like a pretty amazing work certainly not from an amateur in the matter or a rushed thing, I'd be surprised if the Latin isn't also top notch tbqh, kinda cool actually
not only that, but apparently this guy is one of the figures behind the famed radio program Nuntii Latinii which used to transmit news in Latin over Finnish radio

not only that but IIRC the fig tree under which the babbies were deposited by the Tiber was preserved for a long time so in theory they could've pointed at the approximate spot
