EXISTING CONTENT ANCHOR, ask about existing content here, link new content to the OP, please.
Since it's a new thread, I'll repeat that I'd definitely like to see the new Sentai monster art books scanned, since the last(?) one just came out. I've managed to confirm that they have some art that wasn't in the earlier editions.
Incredibly tasteful pic OP, Sano is such a national treasure tier animator.

>>23747634>>23750703>>23751148If you guys are actually serious about this stuff, get in contact with actual fansubbing groups like msubs, Inka, or LonelyChaser (preferably on discord since that's the easiest avenue these days). The people there can point you to good translators and help with the rest of the project. There's an innate distrust against randos (particularly on 4chan) with subbing stuff since there's no guarantee that they'll actually know what they're doing, so there may be obvious issues with their stuff, etc. - simply getting to talk to people who do know can get you quite far.

>>23749224I saw recently that the Daicon 4 artbook was uploaded. Did anything interesting get revealed? One thing that's always confused me is that the wikipedia summary for daicon says the sword the girl rides on is Stormbringer (from Elric) but there's nothing that explicitly names it as such so I'm not really sure if that's something someone made up or not. Anyone know the answer? I'd love to see a comprehensive list of all the references in Daicon 3 and 4.
>>2375192323747634 here. I actually do have some experience with the entire process that I'd be happy to show to any potential collaborators. >>23751148I'd honestly be down for someone to take a look at the Magnet Robo series that aren's Steel Jeeg - Gowapper V Godam, Gakeen, and Balatack. >>23757241EG's latest Ideon release is encoded from BD, and it still handsomely beats sxales (that guy is a retard who can't encode and sometimes fucks up subtitles too - avoid his releases at all costs). It has been superseded by better encodes though. E.g. ZetaRebel's encode will look better than EG (who held to the rule that 16mm film = 720p, which has no basis in reality and just gimps video quality), and it has both PGS and Hidive subs instead of an OCR of the DVD subs (though dialogue should be mostly the same). For the movies, grab ZetaRebel if you're on AB (they're not on nyaa for some reason), or Hack-Job like the spreadsheet says. ZetaRebel has official subs for the movies, Hack-Job has old fansubs.>>23757325I really hope you figure out something that lets you download modern releases. any thoughts on the recent [Joseki] gundam encodes? a modern size saving release sourced straight from hchcsen sounds nice on paper if you don't want to drop 300 gigs on ZZ or V or rely on decade old EG releasesat a glance definitely looks more competent than sxales for roughly the same size but I'm not really an expert

How do I into Five Star Stories if the manga isn't translated and the only thing that exists is a single OVA?>just learn japaneseI tried and got filtered by kanji

okay following up on Superbook, I'm on a jihad for kiddie-ish dubs and cartoonsI've recently gotten Tranzor, Tenkai Knights, a mess of rokslop, a lot of other stuff off tubi I def want Star Blazers, Robotech, and Voltron (OG not modern gay)tbdesu something I can throw ytdlp at is _really_ handy, I haven't hit amazon prime yet, last I saw that sometimes works with ytdlpbut yeah any easy downloads of kiddie-ish dubs would be handy, I'm not opposed to torrenting but I'm looking to dine and dash it to an external drive, I've already pulled down a TB or so of kiddie shit
>Take over two years to release 2/3rds of the manga (Vol.4 will be released in September)>The first volume seems to be out-of-print, not even listed as available on DENPA's site.I know they are a small publisher, but still, how am I supposed to abandon my pirate ways when this is how they handle official releases?
I'm guessing the Genma Wars manga isn't translated at all?
back on Space Giants, good-ish news!I haven't gotten around to getting my usb thingy to work on win11, but I have gotten a chinesium gopro, which I _think_ will let me do a shitty cam of a full tape while keeping my phone free, so I can set that up to run as I go to work.I'm still playing around with it, just got it yesterday, but there should be some progress to at least confirm these aren't the tapes we're looking for
Mach Baron is now subbed up to episode 12!https://archive.org/details/machbaronsub& the subber just told me they've finished timing episodes 13-20 & have just started working on subbing 13 proper, finally breaking their streak of only ever doing half of shows! What's with the Legend of the Galactic Heroes laserdisc project thing? Isn't the series already ripped on both laserdisc and blu-ray?
>>23805397iirc the existing rips of the LDs are from about a quarter-century agoalthough there's limits to what you can get from LD, there's a lot that modern codecs and fine-tuning could probably bring to the table, even without mad science like a domesday machineI still think it's weird how much data from literally over twenty-five years ago is still useful today, not just "it runs if you jiggle it" but it's actually a perfectly good image that reads on most machines
Anyone know of somewhere with an archive of Gundam Ace magazines? I found a lot listed on manga zip, but after a certain point all of the links point to what seems to be a dead site, and I can/t seem to find anyone else serving them. >>23829558https://www.diffchecker.com/9uXC6gKv/Quick and dirty diff. No timestamps in that because they don't match up at all. Grab an episode from either for that (and the JP). What I noticed:MQ completely fucks up the OP. Over half the lines are completely wrong and multiple have messed up romaji as well. Their version with leaving marks on dead bodies is way more macabre than the actual lyrics, the whole rolling from the top makes no sense at all either. Inka on the other hand has no mistakes I could spot. MQ tends to be more abbreviated while Inka actually subs lines the "bleak incident" one at 03:58. Generally I think Inka captures the JP better, like correctly phrasing at 05:56 that "High Stakes Lulusy" is her nickname, not just that she has a reputation for that, or 07:26, that him saying it's the Balarant makes it the Balarant. MQ's rendering didn't get that autocratical tone across. Merowlink's very first lines at 02:51 illustrate both of these points. MQ can't keep the name of the old unit consistent, they use both Planpandoll and Planpando in this episode. On the ED MQ similarly failed, grammar is questionable in the first few parts, in the chorus they misheard dominoes and simply guessed it (though they turned into "time of dominoes" which is a basic fail of how that possessive works) , then fell for the false friend of orugooru (orgel) and turned it into an organ when it's a music box. There's anidb comments from 2009pointing out bad timing, inconsistent names, that it's probably edited from much older subs, etc. They are not great, and Inka had a much more competent TL on this project than whatever MQ had to work with (Lupin Gang Anime and Newtype Animation from the looks of it), plus modern standards on TS etc.And while I'm associated with Inka, I did not work on this release. I know all the people involved though and can assure you they're great at what they do.
>>23829646AI-Raws are the watery shits. Avoid them. Everything gets denoised, detail be damned. Same for Shiniori and Moozzi, and most Chinese RAW groups. You basically never get good raws for old shows from these public raw groups. It's been like this since the late 00s.This is like that one person who crusaded against Kamen Rider on this board and Moot banned them. It was funny af.>>23861413Don't be sorry.
>>23749222>>23871670Do we have Seigi no Shinboru Condor man?
>>23871732I'm not crusading against anything, it's stupid to think we need a fucking star trek general here.
>>23871798>it's stupid to think we need a fucking star trek general here.it would be very Funny. is like Western Tokusatsu
>>23871806No.
>>23871807>No.Yeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SK0cUNMnMM
>>23871798We've had Star Trek threads before, I can't remember if we actually had a Star Trek general (there have also been sci general threads for star trek/wars/Babylon 5/etc...). I don't think we discuss it often enough to have it happen.Generally there's enough overlap with the board theme (mechanical), that it probably doesn't matter.
>>23749222It's a shame that Linebarrels is mostly forgotten. I'm trying to download the soundtrack and there are no seeds and barely any peers. It's a shame because it's a genuinely good soundtrack.
The 1973 toku Diamond Eye is fully subbed now!https://archive.org/details/diamondeyesubs
Does anyone have a torrent for the Rebirth of Mothra OSTs, or maybe just a general Toho Movie Soundtrack batch that might include them?Any format is fine
>>23875230>I'm trying to download the soundtrack and there are no seeds and barely any peers. It's a shame because it's a genuinely good soundtrack. There are thousands of soundtracks with 0 seeds, people don't understand how terrible preservation is for old series
>>23749222What is the point of this place if they don't give you links to the subtitles?https://anidb.net/
>>23749222Still no good subs for Tri-Zenon!?
>>23749222/m/ is dead
>>23879722Long live /m/!
https://archive.org/details/00ifukedurmom_202605further half-assed attempts to check Space Giants tapesI've mostly listened and I'm pretty sure I didn't hear any moonspeak? dunno how this corresponds to the stuff online
>>23879722/M/ is Gundam posts that are identical to the same ones we saw 10,15 and, 20 years ago, but now we at least have permissible T&A.Finally the jannies admit that mecha is about robot and female bodies.
>>23749222We finally got some good raws for Ryuuseiki Gakusaver but we still need better subs
>>23749222Did someone get the new subs from Discotek? I can't find them.
>>23879936The BDMV's on AB and U2. Hchcsen had the subs uploaded to mega and I have those sitting around; I checked them a bit against the subs on OZC's release (which is sourced from the old Bandai discs) and I couldn't find much of a difference. Which is a shame because the translator Bandai employed did not understand Tomino dialogue and thus the subs read quite awkwardly and choppy (moreso than Tomino dialogue is by default).>>23876957It's a database. It tells you what releases exist, and links to the fansub group's resources that aren't just links to torrent sites. You'll have to find the releases yourself because a) andib would rather not host infringing content, and b) because stuff can be distro'd a number of different ways (torrent, ddl, irc bots, usenet), many of which may have gone offline in the interim. No point in keeping scarywater links around or whatever ancient shit they would've had back in the day.
>>23860136>>23871670>>23877990>>23879928>>23879936We really need to focus on older media before it becomes lost media
>>23880838>says we>doesn't do anything himself
>>23879851To be fair, we don't get much in the way of new mecha media, so it's hard to avoid recycling the same discussions.
>>23881141>To be fair, we don't get much in the way of new mecha media, so it's hard to avoid recycling the same discussionsWe have a bunch of Mecha (anime/manga) with 0 translations or with terrible subs or terrible raws >>23879928
>>23881255Gakusaver isn't that bad.
>>23749222How are the translations going?
Here the Macross Plus manga translated into spanishhttps://mega.nz/folder/GLABETgS#Xs4w0c6KrO_oMmoHKl_8BAAlso would be good if someone finished translating (even with AI), the last 4 chapters of Macross Δ Gaiden: Macross E.There is one delta manga that got translated in english. Is it archived?
>>23882458>(even with AI)Hell no
>>23881255Yeah, but that counts on people willing to translate or who at least know enough about the anime/manga to talk about it. Unfortunately I don't know anywhere enough Japanese to start translating anything.Personally, I would love it if someone cleaned up the Might Gaine subs since they're all over the place. Otherwise it's 95% complete, but that franchise has it's own general anyway.
>>23882594>Personally, I would love it if someone cleaned up the Might Gaine subs since they're all over the place. Otherwise it's 95% completeWait we still only have those terrible raws and Translations for the older Series?
>>23882594>>23882887I remember that Amazon Prime has better quality raws, but nobody has ripped them yet. I don't know if these are better or the DVDs are better.https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/video/detail/B0FYP8X18V/ref=atv_dp_amz_c_TS8274d9_1_1?jic=16%7CCgNhbGwSA2FsbA%3D%3D
>>23797824>which was the case with Rainbowman & Diamond EyeSadge
>>23882887Pretty much all of the Brave/Yuusha series has decent subs, the video is okay unless it has a bluray release (J-Decker, Might Gaine, Da-Garn first half...). I don't know how Might Gaine keeps getting dicked over, the sub ninja always manage to have their way with that particular entry. It really needs a clean up and a re-translation because the only complete subs is a mix of 4 or 5 different subbers.
>>23882901I'm personally just waiting for Blurays now, we're getting them at a half decent clip, Da-Garn is getting it's bluray boxsets this year. That's more or less half the franchise with Blurays. I'm hoping Goldran or Dagarn gets the same treatment next.Silver Castle did a nice DVD release of Exkaiser, and /M/Subs did a nice release of Goldran.
>>23884064>the only complete subs is a mix of 4 or 5 different subbers.A lot of older series are like that, same for manga, Rokudenashi Blues has like 8 different translators. Everything is a complete mess
>>23882887>>23882901How are the translations and quality of the other super robot series Like the Eldran trilogy + Ova? or Ryuuseiki Gakusaver? Invincible King Tri-Zenon?
>>23883948Mach Baron & Diamond Eye are fully subbed now, still waiting on Rainbowman unfortunately.
>>23882393I don't know
Sorry if this is a dumb question or there's a better place to ask this, but basically I'm so busy all the time that I mainly only have time to watch shows on my lunch hour at break. So if I wanted to watch Braiger or Srungle or Betterman, are those shows safe for work?
>>23886337Check animenewsnetwork, it usually says how NSFW a show is.
>>23886337>So if I wanted to watch Braiger or Srungle or Betterman, are those shows safe for work?No Anime is safe for work, unless your boss is cool with it
Kind anons, is there anywhere that archives scans of Figure Oh magazine?
>>23886940Braiger had the first sex scene in a TV anime and Srungle literally has a character codenamed Sexy.

>>23884064suprised people didn't try to retranslate the whole thing considered how long original japanese sub was released
>>23888016>suprised people didn't try to retranslate the whole thing considered how long original japanese sub was releasedAnd the worst part is that we finally have decent raws
>>23887721Litterally the best we got, I wish we had better, but this show always gets taken down by sub ninjas, somehow.>>23888016Yeah, we have JP subs, and Blurays, but no good subs, I'd use what I have for the blurays, but there's no soft subs for the early eps if I remember right. They're all hard subs.
>>23888350I'm currently subbing something I won't disclose until I've done at least the first cour. But I'm doing it based on official Japanese captions. & I'm looking at preexisting subs for it from like a billion years ago. & like half of the time whoever did those just recognized or misheard a couple words, & then just made it up from there. Standards for fansubs sure have come a long way.
>>23888493To be fair, having JP captions would help a lot, I don't know JP, but when I tried learn, there are more than a few words that sound similar. But yeah, fansubs have come such a long way, it's funny having fansubs that are higher quality than the official ones (looking at you Crunchy Roll). Having said that, a lot of fan subbers don't exist now that anime is mainstream and subs are plentiful.
>>23888493>I'm currently subbing something I won't disclose until I've done at least the first cour.Tell us yours secrets anon
>>23889108Don't be a pest, be thankful someone is doing something.
