wtf did I just watch?
no, really wat was that last episode?
also, the CGI was not as bad as I heard people complain about, the VF-0D was pretty sexy

The last good Macross entry. It's all garbage after Zero

deepest lore
>>
>>23776278
Zero came out before Destiny, and Shinn Asuka got his name because it matches Kira Yamato (death/kill + Japanese historical period).

The real dank lore is that Suzumura’s first VA role was in 7 as one of Gamlin’s mooks, and Kawamori cast him as the lead in the next Macross show.
>>
was including Focker even necessary? he does not add anything to the plot. You only get a vague implication that one of the guys in the evil planes was his flight instructor but that's it.

so the birdman was an alien? it obviously was something comlpetely different from the zentraedi and the vajra

where the fuck did Sara and Shin go? why the head even reacted when he and Mao kissed underwater? in fact, Sara and Mao were some kind of ESPers or anything?

so many questions that are left unanswered

This was the last Macross show that gave a shit about realistic battles. The air battles are grounded and there's realism involved.

Every other Macross series made afterwards was just 80% Idolshit and the air/space battles were a joke.

By having a family and children and enjoying life with them watching them grow up. Without being the weirdo fsggot that tried to replicate your entire childhood by making them get into pop culture you grew up with only. Your own negative attitude is tainting things too.

Sorry this might be a truth nuke. Notice how all of the culture in Macross was used to fall in love you're not actually supposed to only have pop culture.

I like how the 2000s animation team took the time to show us the audience all the detail of the transition.

Modern macross just has the pilot press a button and the fighter plane just transforms in an instant. So disappointing.

>Modern macross just has the pilot press a button and the fighter plane just transforms in an instant. So disappointing.
Original Macross pioneered that, you need to credit the grandaddy
>>
I'll agree with you on the CG front. Way better than the same 4 animations they used for all of Macross 7 but nowhere near the absolute peak that was DYRL or Macross Plus. Bonus points for the F14 action at the beginning.

>>23840561It stands to reason that advances in technology facilitate faster transformation speeds. If you want a more meta explanation, it's generally prudent to showcase the entire transformation process in detail only for the initial demonstration and then opt for brevity for every subsequent instance the function is utilized
>>
>>23775707
That finale was actually even harder to stomach back in the day since it took something like 8 months to get it after the previous episode
Really feels like the whole thing was unplanned and they threw shit at the wall for the finale since it straight up ignores the previous episodes cliffhanger

Also I think the CG is fine, if anything it's biggest flaw is they try to much for what it's capable of. SV-51 is over detailed and the flapping wings is just too much, there's a bunch of scenes where they had to fall back to 2d animation, etc. Frontier really perfected it by having a better handle on what they could do with it.

I intend to give it another chance someday, but at this moment I consider it the singular Macross outlier. It's the only one I consider not just not good but actually bad. The next "worst" is either II or Delta, and I liked those. Though Delta did not feel like Macross at all

You can see with unlimited movent budget a model affords, they don't respect things like air resistance like the older Macross films did. Or momentum. It's far too twitchy and all over the place.

Have you considered the issue of budgeting? OVAs tend to get more per episode because they don't have to make it last through an entire cours or full-length series.

Budget plays a role but more than that it's an issue of Direction and choreography. Many 1970s and 1980s animes look inferior to movies, but they have excellent choreography.
>>
>>23867427
It's neither, he's acting as if an overlong, incredibly slow transformation (that also without being able to use animation cheats makes things look insanely flimsy!) that was done that way just to show off the CG of the time is something normal.

Not even Zero does them like that past that one
