>>23786311Isn't the joke that Chronicle didn't even think of her sexually?
Depends. In the original series they don't seem to be all that close which works with the whole subverted matriarchy thing and him getting manipulated by the power hungry women around him, although Katejina seems to be infatuated with him.In the often meme'd novel where Cronicle is a gooner who constantly thinks about Katejina's pussy, their sexual relationship is used as a catalyst for Katejina's cyber newtype madness and obsession with her lost virginity, since she was basically forcefully "saved" by Cronicle from life-threatening full body burns, operated on, and married off to him. But the novel was written solo by Tomino who was also in his goblin kill-them-all-but-even-more-than-usual mode and has a lot of differences in continuity and characterization.
Katejina was the best thing to happen to Victory. She turned a fairly standard looking finale into something memorable. It's not like any of the other antagonists could have elevated the ending like she did.

>>23786307>how Tomino imagined her redemption I don't know, but I think that Uso impregnating her will be good enough to atone for her sins.I mean to be fair, she seems to be at peace now and technology is advanced enough to help her living with blindness. She’s not a good person, but she’s the best character in the show. She’s selfish and entitled, chastises everyone around her for using violence when she’s clearly wrong, because she has no thought of anything practical - she just wants to jump to an easy moral high ground to feel superior. Once she can have a prince for a boyfriend, she’s happy to do violence for him. She’s happy to parrot Zanscare ideology to those people that had the audacity to not agree with her. She’s an echo of any self-centered, self-righteous person that jumps on any band wagon that lets her preach down to those around her. She’s such a bitch, and it makes her the most interesting character. It also makes Uso’s naive adoration of her tragic. Also nice how she disregards Uso until he starts becoming more important than her and not listening to her, at which point she doubles down on ordering him to stop being important, and becomes her nemesis for not continuing to simp for her.

New to UC.Is it worth watching Victory just for her?
>>23875876I finished watching Victory recently. The show has problems, but I think it explores certain themes very well. Katejina is one of the best parts of the show. This thread goes into some of the reasons why she works so well as a character.
Fuala is a character I really liked in Victory. She might've been my favorite antagonist in the show if not for Katejina's strong showing at the end. I like the nature of her being on both ends of the guillotine as far as sentencing others to die, and being sent to slowly die in space. I kind of wish she was brought back sooner, but it worked out pretty well with how things happened.
>>23875876Victory is great on its own, but Katejina is also a good cherry on top.
>>23776159Tomino is so based.
Can we just let this thread die? I fucking hate Katejina and Victory.

>>23875876Personally, I think Victory has plenty of its own merits which aren't Katejina, but she's definitely an interesting part of the show, and I do not mean that in the erotic sense. As others have said Victory is in some senses messy and it's definitely imperfect, but for me I find it's genuinely one of my favorite overall UC entries, up there with 0079.
>>23882678I feel that Victory is even better than 0079 because it's as if Tomino let himself go and poured all his imagination into it instead of limiting himself to a more episodic format.
>>23882711You're damn right about that. I need to rewatch Victory, I've rewatched 0079 at least 4-5 times now.
>>23882711>poured all his imagination into it instead of limiting himself to a more episodic formatNot sure I see how the two are mutually exclusive.
>>23883262It is in the sense of the specific formula of the villain of the week, it's not that Victory completely lacks this but the greater number of characters logically offers more diversity of interactions and conflicts.
>>23882711>>23882779I can't tell if you're being serious or not. If you look around the internet (even on 2ch), the consensus on Victory is overwhelmingly negative. Lots of people call it comically bad. One well-known reviewer on MAL even gave it a 3.5/10. I haven't watched it myself yet, but when the majority seems to hate it this much, it makes me think it probably is pretty bad, right? Why do you like it personally?
>>23883615I'm the second guy you quoted and I am indeed being dead serious. I don't give a shit about whatever some guys I don't know on some aggregate site I rarely if ever use think. I enjoyed Victory because, for me, it was a neat combination of>compelling narrative>interesting setting development>good choreography, mecha designs I like>characters I like>actual genuine batshit insanityI'm the kind of person who also genuinely enjoyed Gundam ZZ, which is widely disliked, but I didn't care or pay any attention to that "common" opinion when I watched it outside of giving myself breathing space when I watched it for the first time following Zeta Gundam. Not everything is for everybody. Some people can have difficulty looking past the flaws of a work to see it for its goods or bads. For a contrast, I absolutely hated watching Gundam Wing, which is at least moderately liked if not outright well liked and thought that its writing was abysmal dogshit. Gundam Wing started off as something I enjoyed only to quickly devolve into being painful for me to watch about five or so episodes in, whereas V Gundam, after a mildly confusing but still interesting start, kept me paying attention, had twists and turns I found entertaining or fascinating, and has stayed in my thoughts to this day because of some of its themes, characters, and events. To elaborate in Victory's confusing start, literal corporate interference resulted in the first four episodes being turned into flashbacks via voiceover and editing to get the Victory onscreen ASAP. This fucks up the structure of these epsiodes a bit, but to make a long story short Uso's first MS is a non-Gundam machine, and had the show been allowed to air normally, he would only have actually used a Gundam at around episode 4.
>>23883615>I haven't watched it myself yet, but when the majority seems to hate it this much, it makes me think it probably is pretty bad, righthorrible mindset to have, you might as well volunteer yourself in the cattle factory.
>>23884104>see it for yourselvesI wish I had as much free time as you. And how is that exactly a 'horrible mindset to have'? Is it wrong to read reviews before going to a restaurant so you at least know what to expect? Statistically, the majority is usually right. Like, would you willingly go to a restaurant that everyone says has poor hygiene?
>>23884094>I absolutely hated watching Gundam Wing, which is at least moderately liked if not outright well liked and thought that its writing was abysmal dogshit.I also thought Wing was terrible and dropped it around episode 7 or so. I was willing to tolerate it up until that episode where Wufei killed those soldiers in their sleep, and that woman whom I forgot her name not only lets him go free instead of stopping him, but actually starts sympathizing with his whole cause. That was the point where I checked out completely. I guess I can trust your opinion on Victory then. I’ll give it a watch.
>>23884159Glad I could get my opinions across, just remember that you're free to form your own opinions too. If you think Victory sucks ass in the end, it's a perfectly valid way to feel. You did better than I on Wing, I tortured myself by watching the whole thing and was actively hoping for the entire cast to die by the show's end. I hope Victory, by contrast, can earn the chance you give it, and that it can be at least more enjoyable than Wing for you. I certainly know it was for me, and look forward a rewatch. Cheers dude.
>>23884149>food analogyplease anon, I am trying to give you benefit of the doubt.
>>23883615I'm the first anon, although I see you've already received a good answer I'll point out that when something is poorly rated by the masses, there are two options: either it's genuinely bad, or it's simply beyond the capacity for appreciation of the casual viewer. You might call me pretentious, but I maintain that Victory falls into the latter category. Therefore, I can't guarantee you'll like it, but you should probably watch about six episodes if you have any interest. However, if you've seen anything by Tomino before and didn't like it, I wouldn't recommend it.Without going into too much detail, I'll say that Victory stands out for the intensity of its emotions and how human its characters feel. It's the sum of small details that converge in the larger conflict. It's full of eccentricities, but for me, the setting works as a surreal environment for character study and drama.>>23884094I'm watching Wing these days and I'm really struggling with it. I'd probably give it a 5/10 or something because of the ideas here and there, but its self-indulgent teenage empowerment, the lack of cohesion and definition in its plot and motivations, the jumping from one subplot to another without developing the processes, etc., is making it really hard for me to keep watching, although I will finish it because I'm a masochist who likes to complete what I start. Have you seen After War? Would you say it's better?
Bar Katejina, are there any other hot chicks in this show? Please don't say Shakti.
>>23884253You're basically in my exact shoes when I was watching Wing and I have very similar thoughts on it. It's really frustrating because you can see the bones of good ideas in it and the mechanical designs are great but it simply doesn't deliver. I can at least tell you that the ending for me was absolutely not worth it and I came away pissed, I finished it, like you, for completion's sake but I came away from it annoyed and rather feeling I'd wasted my time. I've asked here on /m/ about the movie but people say it's, on a fundamental level, more Wing, and so I've concluded it wouldn't do me any good to bother watching it and to torture myself further.>>23884316Yes, there's literally a whole squadron of them whom we get to see fairly often, some are main characters, and there's even more besides.
>>23884346Just to share, if you haven't seen Ideon, you should check it out. Its biggest problem is the villain-of-the-week format, but I think it excels in character dynamics and the intensity of its build-up. The film Be Invoked is its high point, and I consider it a complete masterpiece, a truly spiritual and cathartic experience.
>>23884367No worries anon, I've seen Ideon already and it also is one of my overall favorite shows. Like Victory it is in my thoughts quite a bit. Be Invoked is great but the episode I always keep coming back to in my thoughts has to be Betrayal on Ajian. I also really like it as a show about people- in a sense they are really the meat and potatoes of all shows, mecha or not, and for his weirdness I think in my time with mecha (not long enough) I've only rarely come across guys who depict people and humanity quite like Tomino does, alongside his excellent fight choreography. Like Victory I'd like to rewatch Ideon, but unlike Victory I have a vague plan to watch it side by side with a friend; for him it'd be his first time. Ideally afterwards we could watch Evangelion for the first time together, as neither of us has seen it.
>>23884316marbet, shrike team, fuala, lupe, maria bikini squad etc.victory is hag kino.
>>23884372I agree with your assessment of Tomino, his works simply resonate with me and led me to deepen my artistic appreciation, without meaning to sound pretentious. There's something human, organic, and alive in his work; it feels natural, intense, and realistic in the way he portrays the complexity of his characters relationships and conflicts. It is a theatrical sensibility that practically does not exist in the medium today.Evangelion, on the other hand, evokes mixed feelings in me. It's a great series, but once I started exploring the medium and came across Victory or Ideon, I realized that some of its charm was lost on me, mainly because I feel it relies too heavily on its pathos and conceptual ambiguity. To be more honest, I'd say it feels somewhat morbid, and that limits it as an artistic work in my eyes, in contrast to Tomino's works, which I recognize as morally more elevated. Despite this, it definitely has good direction and genuinely evokes the existential angst it aims for, its characters feel human, and it offers a certain catharsis.
>>23775874She made me watch the show with a single hand.
>>23884410That's my thing about Eva. I hear from it at a distance and have gotten a something of a sour impression of it, like it's nihilist in a sense. Tomino even at his lowest I feel is not that base, at least IMO, and he's openly spoken about how he didn't like that. Call it Tomino worship or pretentiousness of my own but those thoughts have made me put off of wanting to ever see EVA on its own merits for quite some time. For all the ridiculous darkness Tomino does I never feel like he ever tries to tell you that life and the struggle to live is pointless.
>>23884438Eva isn't the way it is because it is trying to be edgy. Eva is the way it is because the creator is trying to express living with clinical depression and the alienation that resulted from it.
>>23884469I understand. I hope, then, that it shall be neat in time when I can see it. Thanks for the thoughts, anon.
>>23884477Oops, that anon isn't me. As I said, I have rather mixed feelings about the series. Since we seem to have similar tastes, you'll probably confirm your preconceptions, but it's still worth watching to understand the medium.>>23884469I think it is at least partially edgy. It clearly goes overboard with its aesthetic pretentiousness and pathos, which, in my opinion, borders on a twisted self-indulgence in misery. I think its value lies more in its ability to portray immorality and, in doing so, lead to a certain internal confrontation, but I can't help thinking that it goes too far and is somehow contaminated with its sick and morbid elements.

>>23892516What was her problem?
>>23894412She went the career woman route while fucking a superior. She then realized it left her unfulfilled and projected her insecurity as a lack of a child to raise, and Usso, being right there, ended receiving the brunt of her lunacy. It briefly comes up during her first major appearance and comes back with a vengeance in her last.
>>23894420>She went the career woman route while fucking a superior.Sounds like conjecture.
>>23892931csm takes place in the 90s, retard
Zanscare is uniquely hypocritical because they preach Woman as the path to peace yet force their girls and young women to unsex themselves into weapons.
>>23895853You literally see this in the show, they don't even try to hide it.
>>23883615Wasn't Tomino's whole thing with Victory was that he was trying to make a bad Gundam show on purpose? He was going through that crash out about his shows being used as glorified toy commercials during that time.
>>23896114>he was trying to make a bad Gundam show on purposeno, that's just dumb myth.
I still don't get why she's so popular in Japan when Victory Gundam is constantly getting clowned on by the fandom there...
>>23896167>clowned onWtf does that even mean?
>>23897423To be made fun of.
>>23876842>warcrimesHey that's anti-semite. >>23776159
>>23896167What's with the tongue?
>>23899040She's thirsting.
>>23775874>Fuck KatejinaYes
What's the inlore reason as to why she likes to expose her cleavage when wearing her pilot suit?
Why did those goons sexually assault her?
>>23884149You can't trust the general consensus of uncritical masses of people who are mostly ignorant of literature, storytelling devices, cinematic techniques, and so on. There's less than 10 good shows in MAL's top 100. That being said, Victory is pretty bad. Despite its perceived quality, I like the show for personal reasons. You gotta watch it for yourself.>>23886930People genuinely have no idea what they're talking about.
>>23896167For a character that's popular she has very little art.
>>23899042For what?
>>23900311
>>23900744But he's dead.
>I fucking told you to invite lalah, but you didn't want to promote my 'mother complex', whatever the fuck that means.
New here. She's a terrible person but I kinda dig her design. is it wrong to think that she's attractive?
>>23902908>is it wrong to think
>>23901689Except now he's exchanged a prospective mother figure with a psychotic elder sister figure.
>>23904075Sounds like a more or less even tradeoff.
>>23901689It's like she's not even trying to hide the fact that she's conspiring something.
