>disjointed off-tone sequel movie that doesn't solve the open plot treads from the original and up-ends the characters was POD actually the ultimate genre meta parody and flew over the heads of anime fans at the time?
>>23802986I really like PoD and Ruri.
>>23802986>one offIt was meant to be a trilogy, it just flopped so hard the others never got made.
Doing such a huge departure from the original show hurt it in sales and with fans. Complete mistake.Xebec learned to not stray from the formula with Fafner. Thank god
There weas a Dreamcast game that bridged the original series and PoD
>>23802986I dont get why people call it off tone, its not any more off tone than the original TV series. Theres still comedy parts with the main antagonists reading shoujo manga to fuel their super teleportation device and the protagonists and things like that, theyre just not as spaced out because its a movie.
>>23803090Yeah, I don't understand it either. When I first watched the thing, I was expecting it to be entirely distinct and brooding and self-serious. There was a bit of that, but most of it's just the same as the show. Its major issue is just that it's clearly not a finished story.
>>23802986Pork
>>23803085And I heard that one didn't resolve anything too.
>We made it shitty on purposeThat does sounds like your average low quality, no effort parody (which describes Nadesico as a whole perfectly), so you're probably correct
>>23802986You're over exaggerating.
>>23802986>>disjointed off-tone sequel movie that doesn't solve the open plot treads from the original and up-ends the charactersPatlabor?
>>23805727kek
>>23803090>>23803134Because most people only experience the original through super robot wars.
>>23808459Nah, people were saying this before there were any of its SRW entries available in English. Might be some people who can read moonrunes and didn't watch the show, but that's probably a pretty small group.
>>23803134>it's clearly not a finished story. What happened to the rest of it?
>>23811812Movie didn't do that well, staff moved on to other projects then later felt it was too late to return for a sequel.
>>23803085>>23804830>>23811866There were two games actually. Nadesico the Blank of Three Years for the Sega Saturn took place between the show and the movie, and Nadesico: The Mission for the Sega Dreamcast, which took place afterwards. I don't think there is any actual plot progression in the second game, besides Yurika joining. Guess they were hoping to do another movie still
>>23811881oh and also some dating game thing of course
>>23802986I hate POD with a burning passion, what a faggot move
>>23811881Is there somewhere where I can read about what happens during The Blank of 3 Years?
>>23802986>snark loli becomes the breakout character>make her the main character of the film>age her up and and make her not snark at allWhat the FUCK were they thinking?
>>23812392https://desuarchive.org/m/thread/4683054/
>>23802986It almost feels like a parody of CCA and Oshi’s Patlabor movies. Down to some of the characters drastically changing in personality and motives.

>>23802986Frieren?
>>23814919Gray hair tswin taru is a pretty overused trope. Stop making everything that nuLightnovel shit.

>>23815481Give 1 other example.
>>23802986The open threads from the original get solved in the video game, which leaves threads open that get solved in the PoD movie, which has leaves threads for the next video game, which then left threads for the next animation, but uh-oh, it turns out this was a retarded way to tell a story and it gets cancelled.
>>23815755Then they went on to do Fafner so all's well that ends well.
>>23815745CCA
Black Sarena is pure sex
>>23808459Do people really do that? Play SRW first and watch the sequel of something without ever seeing the original series?
>>23815882Zoomers ofc. Don't be fooled they need outside validation for anything they do. >>23815827Elaborate
>>23815827Care to explain?
>>23812382Do you get to burning anon?
>>23811881>besides Yurika joiningIsn't that a huge fucking deal though
>>23820646Not after PoD stuck her in a refrigerator
>>23811881What kind of games?
>>23802986>disjointed off-tone sequel movieWhat other franchise had this happen to it? Eureka Seven?
>>23827913Eureka Seven's sequels weren't disjointed, they were just pants on head retarded and really bad.
>>23827938Typical Bones failure.>>23827913Escaflowne is a big one.
>>23820646>>23820672Makes sense she’d rejoin the crew since she got better at the films end>>23827944I haven’t even bothered watching this but isn’t this just an odd reimagining of the tv series or something?
>>23828140A terrible reimagining that left out about everything and changed everything else. Plus the escaflowne is in it for 1 scene more or less.
>>23802986PoD is greatPeople don't realize it's an extended Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato bit
Currently watching the original serie, at episode 5 rn, will it gets better? I don't understand what the show wants to be...
>>23828921>if you pretend [x] this shit isn't shit
>>23828921Ummm akshuwally.Yeah lol no. It is so disconnected from the actual show, which people loved. It made no sense at all that they did a 180 and took the route they did.
I actually really liked the movie but I have to admit it's two biggest flaws were.1. Making Ruri the main character, this is an issue because while she's my favorite character, she can't carry a show from a main character position, also she isn't as snarky2. It doesn't give a nice stand alone ending which feels bad because the follow ups were uh, yeah.I do think people are too harsh on this but I can't blame them, the movie doesn't really do anything to soften the blows of the reality of the franchise's fate due to it.
I never felt the tonal whiplash, the original is barely goofy by the end.
>>23812394I just hate that they defluffed her hair.
>>23829859They have a fucking anime convention in the antepenultimate episode

>>23849611No one on this board, apparently.
>>23827944>Typical Bones failure.I don't think that's what he meant when he described it as disjointed.
>>23848247You even watch the show?
What'd they do to eureka 7 I still dont understand
>>23853733Yeah, about two decades ago, and I didn't bother trying to read the credits.
>>23832626More like a fan club meeting.
>>23853735Who are you talking to?
>>23815755They had to learn that the hard way?
I like the film. Always have. It's pretty well animated when the prestige films were on their way out.
>>23855195>he didn't watch the episode previews
>>23815885>Zoomers ofc. Don't be fooled they need outside validation for anything they do.what zoomer is managing to play a SRW game that has Nadesico in it? The newer ones only have the movie
>>23861005He said "of something" not necessarily Nadesico. Zoomers have zero ability finding shows to watch so wait until their YouTube shorts or tick tocks show them units from the games. They can only do things through outside validation
>>23861260I mean sure, but SRW isn't exactly the franchise swarming with 'zoomers.
>>23860920Sure I did, and I don't recall the credits rolling during those.
>>23815827What the fuck are you talking about?
>>23868622Char's Counterattack.
>>23867585Those things still in use in PoD?
>>23861005J is fully translated.
>>23861260>tik toksFTFY
>>23861005Funny you say that, cause I, the one who asked the question, am a zoomer and my play order has been AP+, AG, GC, SRW1, and I am finishing up J now.Gundam is the only thing I have familiarity with going into these games, and so far the shows I've gotten interested in and watched have been Nadesico, Zeorymer, Brain Powerd, and Layzner. I tried to watch Dragonar but can't find anything past episode 9 in japanese sub.
>>23870123I doubt people are playing J to pretend they watched Nadesico of all things>>23871379I mean, as funny as it could be the fact that you watched them also means you're proving him wrong
>>23802986I actually liked this movie but the depressing tone and all the dark story changes that happened off screen is one of the most retarded decisions I've seen with a franchise. Visually it's really good but it had no business being a follow up to Nadesico.
>>23871279>ChiCom data farmFTFY
>>23812392Literally who?
>>23812664The thumbnail looks like she's eating a carrot sideways.
>>23871379CHAD.
>>23871379What about English sub?
>>23876471Well yeah its english sub, but I meant with jap audio. All I can find is italian dub with english subtitles.
>>23877265Clarified.
>>23815755So there were only two tie-in games made?
>>23829870Apparently hair can't be fluffed once it reaches a certain length.
>>23879128Yes, but Nadesico is in a few SRWs and ACEs too. Maybe Scramble Commander ionno.
>>23881076ACEs?
>>23802986I always wondered why they decided to shift focus to her.
>>23883373Because she was a popular supporting character. And like everytime a popular supporting character gets promoted to lead it takes away everything they liked about that character.
>>23882112Yeah 1,2,3, and "Portable" it's not just one game so (s)
>>23883968I mean is it an acronym or what?
>>23885043Oink
>>23886291Is that supposed to be a yes or a no?
>Makes fun of pop culture>It is shitty as it should bePrince of Darkness is just a mask-off.
>>23885043How can you be THIS retarded.
>>23815755>it turns out this was a retarded way to tell a story and it gets cancelled.Actually, that's literally the standard way to do multimedia franchises. That is precisely how .Hack did it.
>>23887151I mean, Hack died too. The multimedia tie-ins should always be supplementary material, not actually important to the narrative you're following in the main story.
>>23887152This is true. Iirc EVA did it to a degree. But, as you said, it didn't seem to work out. Look the SAME studio did Fafner and that lasted for almost 20 years, while Nadesico didn't last very long doing what it tried to do.Mandating that the story has to be tie into supplementary material just doesn't seem to work out. You get the supplemental material when you are satisfied with the main material.
>>23887152They are literally actively developing a new .Hack right now what are you talking about?
>>23885043people really do be getting dumber
>>23888292Enlighten me then.
>>23888370NTA, Another Century's Episode. A game series that anon feels like being a retard about and insisting that everyone should know despite not using the periods in the game's own titles and the last release being a dogshit PS3 game that had the most retarded morale/tension mechanics imaginable and 200+meter knockback on the final boss. With units the size of Arm Slaves and Knightmare Frames. It's not like googling "ace" would come up with any usable results being such a common fucking word.3 was good though. 1 was literal OCs (hence Another Century's Episode, the units are re-used but the characters and plot are new).
>>23889006
>>23889313Anon, the series hasn't had a game in 2 console generations. What you're doing is the equivalent of being a dick about someone in 2000 not knowing a random NES game.
>>23889347Where do you think we are?
>>23890000A place where you can't hold a decent conversation about Daimos, much less actual random shows that haven't gotten subs or been featured in SRW sit your ass down.
>>23890791BUT M-MUH BOARD CULTURE!
>>23889313
>>23891356Yeah, muh board culture of this site being the first place Getter Robo Volume 1 got dumped in English back in 07-08 as a guy's college coursework he figured he'd share. Or the various subgroups that have spawned over the years. The opposite of trying to hide good shit.
>>23888370>>23891395hey anon let me tell you about this handy new invention called "a search engine"
>>23891805See >>23889006 Try searching "ace" and see what relevant results come up. Please actually read the reply thread.
>>23812382elaborate?
>>23802986Nadesico was always a parody of literally everything. It's weird how people took it so seriously as a narrative
>>23892183Bro come on
>>23892256Yeah, adding terms. Big brain. The original question was "ACEs?" with no further context.
>>23802986Was it due to the character designer, Kia Asamiya? He drew the manga serialization and that version diverges from the TV show and goes dark quick. IIRC it had>Akito becoming blind and had to rely on his Aestivalis' (direct to brain) camera feed for vision>Jovians are some sort of feudal space Japanese race, very culty and none of the fun Gekiganger stuff.>Yurika's father was a double agent for the Jovians, with some plan to convert Yurika to their side>i forgot for what purpose but it's for some big keikaku like PoD>Yurika leaves Nadesico and gets kidnapped because she thought Akito was cheating on her with Haruka(booby helmswoman) Or maybe it's the other way around since the manga was serialized from '96 to Dec '98 while the 3 Blank Years videogame was released early '98 and PoD screened in Aug '98
>>23892349And then further context was provided which could have been used. This is not difficult unless you are deliberately making it so.
>>23891392Don't encourage him.
>>23802987Not sure if AI...
>>23892349>Google : Nadesico ACE>3/4 of the first video results are from the game
>>23887157It's a big ask of the one audience to go between multiple mediums of differing appeal, commitment and often quality too. Most of the production team associated with the original form something takes also won't be as directly involved with the others or be able to bring the equivalent contributions to another medium. An iconic score or vocal performance isn't going to be much help to a manga.Even if you do like the idea of the one story through both mediums and like the other medium(s) it's then a problem if it's a 40 hour RPG and you don't like RPGs, or it's an action game but not very good. Or the process of turning it into a good action game forced them to compromise on elements of the setting and story you're actually there for. Or so on.It happens the other way too, there's plenty of horrendous tie-in shows or miniseries for games.Could've just said 'it's a bad idea' but I think the reasons why are interesting. I respect the ambition behind wanting to do it though.
>>23894804What are the reasons why? Doesn't make any sense to me. Did they want to do visual novels to begin with?
>>23894804>>23887157Fate.
>>23895129Good point. However that's like super successful I guess it really depends on the property.
>>23895129Fate runs through multiple media, but it's not like you have an anime ending in a cliffhanger and expecting you to read a VN or manga for a resolution. Generally, all entries are pretty standalone or have a direct sequel in the same media outside of the Gacha game, which expects you to have seen various other series. However, even so, the Gacha game is kind of a point against this. The anime adaptations of FGO have never been very popular since they can't stand by themselves. Either leaving the story very incomplete or starting midway through and expecting the viewers to jump in (and then still ending up without resolution).
>>23895046The entire post before that sentence is talking about some of the reasons why it's a bad idea.>>23895573It also regularly presents the same story in multiple different mediums. The original VN and its anime adaptions are trying to tell the same stories. It's pretty much the opposite of having say, a VN be the first entry and an anime the second in the same story about the same characters.
>>23843177It's -er for the series.
>>23895129Wrong franchise, wrong genre.
>>23894804Perhaps if they'd been able to make it a long-running multiple-installment franchise in the animated medium before attempting to add video game-exclusive stories it would've worked.
>>23871379>>23877265the whole thing should be resubbed and full HD as of last christmas
>>23897674What, SRW?
>>23899078Dragonar
>>23802986The impression that I got was that that was genuinely the angle that they were going for, but it killed interest so hard that they couldn't make the second movie that would have explained the joke better.Actually, it's surprising that no planning materials or story notes for movies 2 and 3 have ever surfaced, or am I mistaken?>>23886291You know I don't know why you go on about that when Yurika is the one who wants to have sweaty fursuit sex with Akito.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6AymaTvfXE
