>Neil Armstrong dies while Fourze was airing
>Kenji Ohba dies while Gavan Infinity is airing
I know the moon landing is fake but these coincidences always suck RIP
This made me realize that I'm not ready for Hiroshi Fujioka nor Naoya Makoto to pass away, they not only started 3 of the biggest tokusatsu franchises of all time but all 3 always came off as kind hearted behind the scenes, this is massive loss for toku

Man, this sucks. I just started watching Infinity.
>>
Just heard about this. Rest in peace, king.
>>
Kenji Ohba even went before Akira Kushida…
>>
>>23851325
Ohba's had some ongoing health problems for the last few years, partly the reason why he hadn't shown up in anything for so long
>>
>>23851325
>>23851440
Yeah, Miyauchi suddenly seemed to get much more old looking, but he was still making public appearances for years afterwards. Ohba disappeared for a while, so clearly his situation was worse.
>>
>>23851223
I just heard the news as I was getting off of work. I'm absolutely devastated.
>>
>>23851223
It was rare to find a stuntman handsome enough to appear as a face actor, but Kenji Ohba did it even AFTER Toei got nervous about face actors having accidents when Fujioka got sidelined in Kamen Rider. Reportedly Ohba has had some health problems for a while, and he disappeared suddenly after the Gavan Type G film. That information might come out now that he's passed.

The Showa stuntmen and actors were just a different breed, and the world is a sadder place with every one we lose. For a lot of those stuntmen, "impossible" wasn't a word they knew. The stunts they did back then would make most unions and agents lose their minds these days. I'm personally glad that Gavan has come back as a show and I hope they do a tribute to Ohba since he couldn't appear personally in the show himself.

He was Akaranger's suit actor in Goranger. Then appeared in Battle Fever and Denjiman. In addition to being trained in weapon scenes and martial arts scenes, he also was trained in a very difficult form of stunt acting: falls. He could execute falls from heights in a convincing way even in costume.

We lost a real one yesterday, /m/. I'm sad to see this guy go. But I'm glad that I got to live when he was performing.
>>
>>23851223

Keep on protecting the stars...JOUCHAKU!
>>
I had heard he was in really poor health for a while there. Ohba is one of the very few toku leads I would call a legend. He genuinely loved tokusatsu and being a part of it and I think the genre owes him a ton.
>>
>>23851469
From what I heard through the grapevine he's spent most of the last 2 years either comatose or in hospice, this day has been fast approaching but it doesn't make it hurt any less
>>
>>23851248
>I know the moon landing is fake

how about you take this bullshit to /pol/
>>
>>23851223
I think Sonny Chiba’s passing really did a number on him because that was the last time we really heard much of him in person, the fact he didn’t even do much of anything during Gavan’s 40th anniversary was a clear sign his health had gone to the worst of it as much as I wanted to deny that and he’d at least get better. Regardless he pretty much MADE gavan’s character the way he was and I’m saddened by his loss, at least he’s finally reunited with Chiba. JOUCHAKU!
>>
Damn, I had a feeling that was coming because of his poor health but it's not fair damn it
>>

>>
>>23851223
I havent seen a lot he was in but both his apprences in Gokaiger and the Gavan type g were the highlights of both films
>>
>>23851558
>everyone else ignores that part because it wasn't the point of the post
>bring attention to it
Your fault not mine, I just brought it up so that nobody else did for bringing up Neil Armstrong
But regardless it's just feels devastating to see a kind man who kickstarted a franchise that brought smiles to so many people pass away, it's insane to think about that out of the original Space Sheriffs only Sharivan is still alive

>>23851429
I'm deeply worried about his health, he got hospitalized a few years back but he at least managed to bounce back and sing again, he even sung Gavan's theme as recently as last week

Big F. Pardon me for being a dumbfag but I never got around to watching much toku after Kamen Rider Kabuto and V3 even though I always thought I should, I kept putting it off. From everything I've heard this guy sounded like an amazing actor and I have a mind to rectify my omission on hearing the news. Do I need to watch anything before Gavan for the full experience or could I start with that?
>>
>>23852045
wonder why though. too pretty to let the actors get in danger nowadays?
>>
>>23851223
This guy was shurikenger too? Never knew that.
>>
>>23852811
I now realize we’ve lost both components of his character, the Va and now this
>>
>>23852437
Nah, you're good. Gavan started Metal Heroes and you're in for a good ride if you continue from there. Battle Fever J and Denjiman were the two Sentai he was in so you could watch them before or after.
>>
>>23852811
He was one of Shurikenger. The whole gimmick is that Shurikenger's "Human" form was just a disguise he took for that episode which was almost always a returning Sentai actor.
>>
>>23852829
Tyty friend anon, I'll give it a go as soon as I can then.
>>
>>23852045
Why was Ohba bald in this?
>>
>>23853053
IIRC he shaved his head for another show he was doing around the same time.
>>
>>23852774
Stunt work's just really difficult. It's a huge amount of work to maintain that level of physical fitness and coordination, so you have to commit to being a stunt performer. If you've got the chops you can then catch a director's attention and parlay stunt work into 'face' roles, whereas a committed 'face' actor can't reasonably do stunt work on the side. But with the shift to casting the very young, newbie actors that talent agencies want to give a big push to, there aren't many opportunities for stunt actors to make that leap anymore
>>
>>23851223

Sucks that after the 90s and when they started with Gaoranger, stunt work got replaced with godawful CGI and digital compositing.
>>
>>23853053
He's not bald ok, he just shaved his head. Do you understand?
>>
>>23853445
Tarantino only really cared about Chiba. The script called for Hanzo to have a comical Japanese sidekick character that mostly spoke Japanese, so Chiba asked Tarantino if he'd give the part to his old student to get him a minor gig in a Hollywood production and Tarantino said sure if it meant Chiba would be more comfortable. I doubt Tarantino knew who Ohba was beyond a guy who did some bit parts with Chiba.

Rare to see talent who does his own stunts.
>>
>>23871233
It's rare to be allowed, since Fujioka nearly killed the original Kamen Rider when he fucked up his leg, leading them to have to scramble to save it. After that, they were very weary of letting a face actor do too much danger. Even as Gavan he wasn't allowed to do his own suit acting anymore except for the occasion shot of him standing still because they didn't want him hurting himself and fucking up their schedule.

This actually makes his death hit close to home for me if the stroke thing is true, spoilered for potential blogposting a month prior my brother had the same deal, was recovering in the hospital slowly but surely and when they moved him to a dank and dingy "recovery home" he ended up having a heart attack and passed. Didn't even get to go home like we were hoping for home therapy. Strokes are the worst and I hope at least Ohba passed peacefully in his sleep or something.

Just when I thought I couldn't hate Tarantino more.
>>
>>23851223
noooo my hero FFFFFFFFFFFFF
>>
>>23877298
I wouldn't even hate on Tarantino over it. Nobody in the US except people with very obscure knowledge of Japanese tv would even know who Ohba was at the time Kill Bill was going into production. Tokusatsu subs were at their barest infancy and the stuff Gavan was in wouldn't be subtitled for many years. So unless Taratino acquired some laserdisc Gavan episodes with bad Chinese subtitles he only would have been familiar with Chiba who's martial arts movies did make it to the US.
