>>23882462Exactly. That was the point. The powers that be wanted the YF19 and YF21 to fail because they wanted to push the Ghost. They chose an unstable man under medication and a rogue incapable of following orders. They didn't count that despite them being the worst candidates you could think of considering their issues heart and love would triumph. That's the whole point of Macross Plus; with Guld, with Isamu and with Myung, ultimately the human heart proves itself better than AI's prowess.And Millard is the one who gets it. He protects Guld by hiding his issues and allows Isamu to steal the plane. The three dysfunctional adults with a horrible past are the ones who triumph against the flawless AI. That's the reason they are broken, and the reason they are unlikable, because they need to be in order to deliver the point. I'm pretty sure Max could've easily dealt with the Ghost if he was around and then go back to fuck Millia as if it were yet another Tuesday, but if they used the perfect pilot to obliterate the AI it would've defeated the whole point of the series.
