Here’s a thread where you can talk about how cool Giant Robo the OVA was, bitch about how Tetsujin 28 isn’t translated, and truly retvrn to the roots of the genre.
>>23885549>the roots of the genre. What are the key aspects of early mecha for you, OP?
Boomer slop
So he just up and decides to kill everyone just like that? I get this is an ugly sight but you really don't want to think about things a bit? Seems a pretty heavy decision to make in haste.
>>23890557Possibly but there's also the fact that Mars started the series defective after a giant quake awakened him early. Then at the end of the series he gets savagely beaten in the head with pipes. Maybe they "fixed" him.
>>23890329What sticks out to me at least is how it’s a middle ground between real robot and super robot. Tetsujin and Giant Robo in particular are generally grounded as far as mecha are concerned but they still rely on shit tons of plot armor and wishful thinking to be viable. But overal, since it was the progenitor for an entire genre, Yokoyama’s work pioneered tropes that we take for granted like the evil/mad scientist, morally grey mecha, monster of the week format and reoccurring villains.
>>23890814>it’s a middle ground between real robot and super robotGod shut the fuck up.
>>23890329>What are the key aspects of early mecha for youThat the robots clearly symbolize the atomic bomb (in Yokoyamas works).
>>23890814I admire how you could write so much utter bullshit and post it with supreme confidence.
>>23890814They're really super robots with less gimmicks/weapons due to being pre-Mazinger. They don't have any of the military styling of real robots.
>>23891182Giant Robo had a head missile, laser eyes and a heat ray cannon. Saying there's some arbitrary number requirement is silly.
>>23890814>but they still rely on shit tons of plot armor and wishful thinking to be viableYou say that as if there's any mecha show other than maybe VOTOMS where this doesn't apply
>>23891288PLOTS rely on plot armor. Some are more clever about it than others but the heroes are practically always going to come out on top in most instances.
>>23891290>american analysis of literature
>>23891317Rent free
>>23891288>votoms>not shit tons of plot armorREALLY ANON FUCKING REALLY
>>23891182Tetsujin 28 is literally a weapon of war made for the IJA that wasn’t deployed, Yokoyama sourced this idea from the reports of Nazi wonderweapons. There’s also the fact that his skillset is incredibly basic compared to mecha like gundam and others. He just has a jet pack and he can just punch things really hard. Most other enemy robots use things like flamethrowers or missiles as weapons which are infinitely more viable than any kind of beam or laser adjacent weapon. Tetsujin and the other robots also run on electricity and are made of basic metal that’s riveted together.
>>23891182>t. has neither read Tetsujin28 nor Giant Robo
>>23891317Shut the fuck up already Ahmed.
>>23891840"Real Robots" aren't really about realism, it's about them looking military-like and/or with soldier-like weapons. These are still unique robots with super hero-like designs.
>>23892048Cough Dancouga
>>23892054Dancouga is a super robot
>>23892229beyond beastsBeyond ManBECOME GODS!!!
>>23892229It's also militaristic as hell
>>23892484
>>23892484Saying that being military style is the definitor between real and super is the dumbest thing I have heard in 30 years.
>>23892495I agree, I'm not the one who said it was. Please follow the full conversation.
>>23892490We know for a fact that Ideon is real robot.
>>23892484>>23892495>>23892498Dancouga the robot is not done in a real robot aesthetic. Everything about it is super.
>>23892536Sure it is. The robots are covered in warning labels, treads, and got cannons and shit. The sword isn't even revealed until the OVA. It's definitely closer to Dorvack and Mospeada than it is God Mars.
It's so bizarre trying to force an arbitrary classification for no reason to something that just doesn't belong there.
>>23892563SUPER beast machine GOD
>>23892584The point is that the distinction doesn't exist. It's just some SRW based mechanics. It has no bearing on the actual shows proper.
>>23892587I can live with that
>>23892584SUPER High Speed GALVION
>>23892563>Sure it isNo. It isn't. It's 100% super robot aesthetic. It's closer to a Power Rangers zord than it is a Gundam.
>>23891433The plot armor was for Chico, not the Scopedogs he pilots. That was the point. In other shows the plot armor typically also extends to the protagonist robot
>>23892699Which shows? Also it's ridiculous to act like Chirico's scopedogs don't have constant plot armor when all the ATs around him lighting up like a box of matches meanwhile any AT Chirico pilots can survive multiple point blank shots that just harmlessly whizz through the cockpit or break off an arm.
>>23892563The robots are freaking animals that combined together. Everything about that is a Super.
>>23885549>bitch about how Tetsujin 28 isn’t translatedDon't forget the sequel
>>23892704Literally any other show. Your webm alone shows something I've never seen any other mecha show have: an enemy bullet penetrating the protagonist's cockpit and directly wounding himEven the fact that you have to say "scopedogs" is more than most shows bother with. They want to make the mecha look cool and so they don't ever have it get totally trashed and have to have it replaced by another mecha unless it's to push an upgrade. But it happens in VOTOMs on multiple occasions
>>23892809>something I've never seen any other mecha show have: an enemy bullet penetrating the protagonist's cockpit and directly wounding himDoubling down on a ridiculous argument I see. Plus you're not even making any logical sense given that ATs don't have a real cockpit and are more like power suits, shooting through any other robots cockpit generally means an instantkill. Votoms is literally the biggest example of actual plot armor in the genre. >b-b-but it only applies to chiricoWatch the show poser.
>>23892837>posts the literal, exact example of what I'm talking about, the protagonist robot getting trashed at the very end of the show in order to shill an upgrade botLook, I'm not saying that Chirico's ATs aren't magically durable by the standard of VOTOMS. But they are definitely less magically durable by the standards of protagonist mecha in anime as a whole. Just look at literally all of Takahashi's other shows for example. Dougram? Loses an arm maybe once and is completely invinicible for the other 71 episodes. Layzner, Galient, whatever the fuck that boring ass shit that Yushiro in Gasaraki piloted? Definitely never get totaled to the point of needing an actual replacement, which is more than can be said for the way Chirico goes through ATs
>>23892897Oh now you're trying to get into a durability argument? Your claim was that Chirico's robots don't have plot armor. They do. Out the ass. Probably even more than the normal robot because something like plot armor is relative in terms of how much damage a robot should be taking. Other ATs are blowing up from getting nicked by bullets while Chirico's AT keeps going after multiple critical shots. All ATs are made of explodium except if Chirico is in them. Please this is so fucking dumb. You're ridiculous.
>>23892726Zoids are real robot. Ideon is a real robot. Putting them together doesn't change that.
>>23893048You're way overreacting. Scopedogs are not treated like the mechs in most other shows and that's a fact. Chirico's dad didn't make the Scopedog for him in secret. There is no "the" Scopedog. It's just a tool he sometimes uses. Hell, it's not even the only thing he pilots. Obviously you're also right to an extent but come on. It's not that deep.
this is not a thread to discuss votoms or dumb shit about real robots™
>>23893500All mechs are fictional so really none of them are real if you think about it.
>>23893433>everything i like is real robotclassic newfag stance
