-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

Working on the Stickler Studio Kampfer. My first resin kit, and outside certain joints being pretty loose, and a few broken parts that I had to super glue up, it's going decently, finished priming everything, and now I'm figuring out a color scheme.
I like this base deck tan/flat white mix that makes it look like a test kit, which I I'll need to highlight and use contrasts on to actually get it it look like something other than primed gray. It's definitely going to take a while though.

Continuing on with my resurfaced gunpla memories from youth (which, to be clear, is >15 years ago).

I'm trying to hunt down two gundam from my memory
>some kind of blue/green gundam with a trillion turret panels that open up
One would think this is Gundam Heavy Arms Custom (EW). Except! It didn't have an MG until 2016. Maybe it was the HG? But I remember it being bigger...
>Some kind of black gundam with wings that cover up into a shell
Again, one would think this is one of the deathscythe hells, but neither of the shells look as complete as I remember. If anything, I remember the shell looking more like Master Gundams. But MG master gundam doesn't have the cover up gimmick, only HG! Maybe everything was bigger from my memory.

Thank you for your time reading my probably wrong memories.
>>
>>23891950
In all fairness, it has a full set of expressive hands, the joints are fully molded in KPS and the sculpt quality is night and day compares to old Wing HGs. If this thing was 3000 yen, it would be one of the best 1/144 release.

Thanks! It's actually not preshading, I prime the entire part in purple and then add white as a highlight to the upper section of each panel, sometimes with one shade, sometimes with multiple. It's closer to modulation in that sense.

Yeah, they are 100% resin cast. Unlike plastic sanding is mandatory if you buy a cheap Chinese recast, the surface will have tons of tiny holes and imperfections. Otherwise you need to clean them up before painting to remove the mold release, the painting steps remains the same but with a lot of masking.

>>23892189
>I suggest getting an ultrasonic cleaner if you're serious about working with resin. Fill it with IPA and let it do the hard work removing all the mold release.
Don't put IPA in an ultrasonic retard. Even if it's small, there's a chance the off gassing concentrates enough vapor to ignite. The manuals warn you not to put any flammables in the vat.

>>23892193
Just use purple power or simple green and let it soak for a couple hours and scrub it with a toothbrush. Or use an ultrasonic-safe cleaner if you really want to use an ultrasonic cleaner. Most of the ultrasonic cleaning is mechanical anyway. And prolonged IPA exposure will damage resin, whether it's the UV kind or cast kind.
>>
>>23892218
Live a little.
>>
>>23892225
If you insist on using IPA at least put it in a separate sealed container, lid on, and then put it in the ultrasonic with a water bath. I have a similar set up for my resin prints but the cleaning is only so-so. Probably not worth the price of an ultrasonic cleaner.

Double sided tape them to the filter. Idea is just to make it less futzing with the booth when you swap the filter, as then you will swap it when needed instead of putting it off.

I found that pre-ordering stuff there is generally not worth it. Some vendors who didn't put the item up for pre-order and only got them at a later date can sell them for a tad cheaper. And with Chinese stuff on that place there really isn't a street date for the stuff. Some vendors can get the item this month, while others the next or even later. If it's the release month I recommend you check out various vendors to see which one has the item in stock first before making the purchase. And even then I get in contact with them to make sure they actually have it in stock before paying them anything. If they messed it up, I've been reimbursed every time.

For example, the third party Gelgoog III is supposed to have been released last month. Most vendors still have pre-orders only. I've found a couple that has it in stock, but I haven't contacted them yet.

You have to keep in mind the release date for this stuff in China is not our release date. I found that places like Taobao are more strict with release dates. There the Gelgoog III has been in stock for a couple weeks now. But something more Western/world facing like AliExpress just takes a while to get the gears going.

If you have to ask you clearly don't have enough skill to get a smooth result. But you should try it nonetheless, if you don't do stuff because people in the internet say it is to hard, you'll never get anything done.

Really cool they're doing the alternate design for the Advanced Hazel feet. I'm hoping they're also including an alternate visor that is open too, that'd be nice.

I've been meaning to buy the bits and pieces needed for a Hazel Rah Second Form. Only bought the Gaplant booster so far. I don't see that getting bootlegged anytime soon.

But this will hopefully make the whole endeavor much cheaper.

That bootleg HG Hazel Custom made by the other manufacturer should arrive any day now. I've built a lot of HG Hazels so if I notice any major defects I'll be sure to let everyone know.

Maybe if you use opaque paint. Translucent paint you need to do it right in one single layer, since overlapping layers will produce different opacities

It's important that the transparent paint cannot react with the chrome. You either need to seal it off, or use a non-lacquer clear gold.

Regular Messer is cool but for as much effort went into articulation the shoulder swings are pretty awful and the back skirt and front crotch plate are annoyingly loose for zero reason
overall the original Messer is one of the weirder HGs Bandai's made to me, it's got a ton of spare parts and Gawman's Messer nor the other variants didn't help make it make sense why it was designed that way. It's both high effort but also all the effort went into an insane ab crunch that's only any good if you want it to touch its toes. It's just weird in every way it can be weird.

So just to confirm, the chemical composition of a gloss black base doesn't matter for chrome coats, right? I could use enamel gloss, or even spray a gloss coat over any kind of black, and it would still work? Or do I explicitly have to pick a gloss black that will chemically react to the chrome?

Yeah you watched 5 Schizophonic blogs therefore you built all 5 of them.
Messer F don't have an entire spare head and chest. They have a spare shoulder spike, Minelayer has a spare backskirt from the regular F02. Commander type has the most excessive amount of junk since it is meant to built in two ways.
