I'm watching for the first time and like 2/3s through (picked up a lot of spoilers through osmosis just because at a certain point I was enjoying it so much that I looked up fan discussions and inadvertently learned future shit, which I regret a little even as it shows I'm into it) and I don't really have an issue with Amuro at all. I will say in like the first handful of episodes after the very beginning he maybe seems too chill with everything, and that combined with the kind of dull setting at that time had me dreading the rest of the show would be really dry. But they go into the PTSD stuff pretty quickly honestly and from there the quality feels like it steps up.I wouldn't say he's particularly whiny for the circumstances he's in honestly. If anything I actually kinda wish he whined a little more; his kill count's already like absurdly high and I could've stood him seeming weak/reluctant for a little longer in the series than they did.
