-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

Okay, my 30MS, christened Ingrid, is now varnished and soon will get a photo session. Not very original but she is not here to win the Groupbuild, I simply had to participate. But I like how she turned out in the end. My only complains would be how with her haircut she looks like having gigantic forehead and how her satin covering on "bodysuit" parts is less shiny than I hoped it would be. But I still like it. As usual, phone camera fails to catch proper contrast.

>>23894995
Thank you. Previously I was painting these sections with brush, like the rest, this time I used airbrush for pretty much everything (I still prefer brush work but I treat it as training with different tools) and as such transitions are much more subtle. Also, it was done by starting with burnt umber and going up with adding skin tone but recently learned of better way to do that - by applying uniform skintone, then shadows with black/dark grey and finally fabric shade uniformly all over. Something worth trying next time.

Also, funny how phone camera can't really decide on white balance, making her sometimes more orange and sometimes a little towards magenta, depending on spot. Oh and I used water-based acrylics (AK), somewhat putting a hole in this whole "but acrylics are baaaad" shitposting.

How do I install this moisture trap on TC20T?
No matter which angle I start (rotating) from, it always ends up tight fit when the position is upside down.

It wouldn't be any better than the 1.0, beyond maybe slight cosmetic improvements. Advanced MS joints are honestly the only way you can have a non-partsforming Zeta in 1/144 scale without having to resort to machined metal parts. This kit frustrated me so much, and it was mostly my own doing from my own tool choices. It was also more complex than I expected, so I am glad I didn't choose this to be my paint testpiggy.
>mr hobby panel pens tip couldn't get to some panel lines due to part geometry, or didn't flow nearly enough in to shallow panel lines
>had to overpaint and iso alcohol off for most of the legs, giving imprecise/smudgey results
>had to use the stickers for the cockpit and wings since the gundam pens are too chonky
>emptying the pen out in to a dish and brush painting offered poor results
>gunmetal grey gundammarker on the guns is far darker than the pencap led me believe
I really feel like all the pen products are noobtraps now, and I guess they worked because I'm a noob and they got me. They seem so easy, but are extremely frustrating on anything fine. I spent so many hours on the blue wing tips just to end up cleaning it off and using the stickers. The only benefit of the hobby panel liner pen is that it wont ruin bare plastic, so its nice for casual building of simpler kits, but doesn't give a good finish on fine details like proper panel liner. The kit looks fine on a shelf, but getting close I just see all my errors :(

My airbrush and compressor are in the mail. I don't think I'll use the markers again for anything over than small details, like the codpiece vents and the green parts. I like the effect of the gold on the chest and shoulder discs too, not canon yes but fuck it I thought it'd look cool.

Stardust Memory is infamous for being terrible in Japan. The whole reason why Rebellion manga exists is to rewrite the story into something more digestible than the anime.

Really depends on which accuracy you are aiming for. Katoki meant for the shoulders to be bumpy, but the animation version made it flat. The only thing you need to to fix is the forearm since it doesn't have the middle seamline like the HG.

RG Wing Zero's binders have its own transformation mechanism, the vernier can be opened and the wings are supported by subarms to achieve a good range of articulation. Not to mention it has more plastic to avoid looking hollow like the HG.

Oxygen and moisture are enough to rust the metal. Without protection, my nipper breaks down in a week. I used to live near the sea several years ago and from what i saw, metal rust much slower due to low humidity.
>>
>>23896427
I live like 5 minutes from lake erie and I've never had my nppers rust on me, let alone rot away in a week

Humidity is more of a weather thingy. If the humidity in your place is very low then the lake or river near by won't affect much.

It's consistently 100% humidity and hovers around 90 degrees in the summer. I do not have nippers rotting away in a week.

I’m a bit of a gunpla beginner. And as far as I know getting replacement stickers and decals will be hard. From gunpla themselves to other stuff like the Bandai spirits licensed stuff.

I mean, no? As long as you properly clean off any residual chemicals from the molding process (but more often just the oils from touching the pieces with your bare fingers) and prime before you paint, it should have zero effect. The only thing you really need to worry about is loss of detail from the painting process (putting primer and paint into the greeble lines mutes them a bit), which is what re-scribing is for.

That shit just sounds like a terrible waste of time and money. You don't need to sand the surfaces prior to painting because that's literally what primer is for. The only big reason for sanding is to get rid of nubs that would stand out underneath your paint job, small scratches and the like get covered up by the primer (though with bigger scratches you might need to fill it in with putty or a coarser primer).
>>
>>23897521
Slightly roughing shit up can help paint stick but it's really not needed in most cases.
>>
I have a question regarding inner frame and armor pieces. Do we ever see what a Gundam looks like unpainted? What is the color of bare gundarium? My next build I'm doing a MG and want to put a bit more detail instead of painting the inside just gunship grey and steel
>>
>>23897546
just look at gundam seed's phase shift down
>>
>>23897521
The balancer can act as very high grit sanding sponges if you need to polish a painted part, otherwise no
>>
Sometimes I airbrush paint acrylic primer and then paint with acrylics.
How is tamiya’s mark fit (regular not strong) for decal application after an acrylic glosscoat (Ak 3rd gen gloss) is applied?
A local store sells mark fit so that’s why I mention that product specifically.
>>
>>23897521
Balancers and finisher are for if you do not paint and want to bring the plastic back to it's original shine or of you want to put a certain finish you your paint (after putting it on). To sand before painting just use sanding sponges.

Yeah. Mr Leveling Thinner is the secret sauce. You can thin anything with it.
>And how about mixing or coating them with another lacquer based paints?
Coating? Yes, but if it's regular Mr. Color you're coating it with, use multiple thin layers and build them up, or you'll melt the aqueous. Mixing? No. That won't fly. Don't do that.
>>
>>23897502
I still find the price pretty suspicious.
5500Yen for that is pretty damn cheap as far as Moderoid kits go and I wonder what the catch/parts-separation is going to be.
If it's going to be about the same as, say, El Dora then one can assume that the licensing costs must make up quite a bit of the price when it comes to their kits.

You can actually mix aqueous with regular mr.color as long as you don't use aqueous thinner. I do it all the time. It'll dry a lot more like the aqueous though; You lose most of the benefits of the regular mr.color.

>>23897822
It's good stuff. It prefers to be thinned a bit less than normal mr.color if you want to apply it wet and the coverage isn't as good. Still very good paint. Aqueous surfacer is also really nice to have around if you work with ABS of questionable quality.

The Mk-II Gundam is a favourite, you'll be impressed with it. I didn't even like it that much until I had it in hand, and thought hard about how it was mostly Emma's suit and how she was the most reliable character in the show. You might have to sand the head or collar down slightly for unobstructed head rotation, but the Zeta has more of an issue with that, so that was another plus.
There's just something about this standard, boring, military-grade factory-produced, completely un-unique looking Gundam that just looks so reliable. And the radio headset-looking vulcan pods give it an extra look of authority and reliability.

Damn i can't believe Bandai was forced to make 20 dollar models at gunpoint
>>
>>23898338
Pic related. The yakuza actively threatening small family company to make the 20 dollar model.
>>
>different stores vary on what 0083 kits they have or don't
>but GP02 is always always sold out
I thought people in Toronto had shit taste, let me out
>>

When was the last time it even had a reprint?

Understandably similar to the rx-78-2 I've made so far, but a really cool kit. I love the lavender frame they have, gives him a different vibe, the darker blue too.

The eye piece was transparent and included reflective mirror stickers to place behind it, so I figured hey, some sort of glowing eye gimmick? I just painted black on the transparent eye piece apart from the eyes themselves... Not exactly satisfied with the glowing effect as you can see here.

I'll probably go back and paint the eyes the old fashioned way like my other kits, but I'll continue on for now.

>People prefer the villainous Gundam over the forgettable Katoki slop with an insufferable manchild pilot
I don't know who is the one with shit taste here...
>>
Is there a MG Sinanju Stein kit without sleeves shit?
>>
>>23898438
Yeah the Ver Ka has optional parts to replace the Sleeves with regular flat parts
>>
>>23898438
Yes, the very second one.

I want a Master Grade Windam. It's my favorite SEED MS.
>>
>>23898455
And I wish to eradicate every single SEEDfag from this planet.
>>
>>23898462
I don't like the story or characters, just the MSs.

Based... so fweakin based

The 02 stands for 1902, its original release year
>>23898435
No, I mean that I wish they had shit taste so that the GP02 would still be in stock

>Understandably similar to the rx-78-2 I've made so far
But anon you get TWO chest cameras
>reflective eye stuff
Honestly I didn't fully get what was going on, I just always do what the instructions tell me to do, picking the fanciest or most complicated one if I have options. I don't remember what I was supposed to do for mine but it looks nice?
>>
>>23898455
This is very not seed like, aside from the stupid backpack. Did this end up in the wrong show?

This but with WfMfags.

Remember red cliff strike? I used a garbo chink bootleg and redid it.

Soulless it looks nice though

Is that you, Axel?
>>
>>23898513
Only Freedom Lacus is hot. Her tv show counterpart is super lame.
>>
I only think of Kiara Sessyoin now every time I see Lacus
>>
>>23898495
It's pretty similar to the daggers, just with bigger shoulders and v fin.
>>
>>23898565
Lacus is more of a slut than miss take the earth and jamitov her bajeena.
>>
>>23898577
Perhaps if the shoulders were a bit more rounded and it had a normal backpack it would look like it's out of UC? It could just be that image in particular that is playing tricks on me.
>>
>>23898495
>>23898589
Kunio Okawara designed the Windam, so that's probably why it looks so UC-esque.
>>
>>23898589
I dunno, looks pretty seed to me.

thicker...
