It's just you have to keep in mind the game is very not subtle about the way it intends you to play for an easy experience, like old winky SRWs.Oh and you lose your MC for a couple stages so if you rely on them to carry you there's a midgame stretch that will be painful

It is however very important that you leverage strong support attackers because their output are the ones that will carry you through most bosses. Domon and Kazuya just end up getting upgrades because you're seriously starved of early game attackers for boss killing and it would be a waste to bench them if you dont know what you're doing.
Honestly I only use propellant tanks/cartridges once or twice per playthrough, even with infinite use like in the newer games
