Why the special effects are like this, Toho made this, the costumes and fight choreographies are fine and, more importantly: why, despite of being so hilariously bad, are those FX obviously treated as a feature?
It was one of the first Japanese shows to be shot on video rather than film so they could make use of what were cutting edge compositing effects at the time. Same reason why the original cut of Star Trek TNG looks the way it does.

There was a Venus Bit in the manga. Minoru Nonoka has been going through cancer treatment but I hope he gets better. The guy worked with so many mecha anime and tokusatsu productions.
