Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

What the hell... My new "supposed to be an upgrade" compressor turned off by itself after 40 minutes of usage and it's EXTREMELY HOT with burnt smell. This is AS-186 clone tat everyone recommended. How the hell is it this bad? this issue NEVER happened with my cheap ass entry grade mini compressor even after 2 hours of continuous usage. am I doing this the wrong way? am I actually supposed to turn off the compressor after it accumulated enough air in the tank?

I need something to help me cope with wasting money on what I think is a junk

This is my entry level $20 POWERHOUSE that I currently use as a glorified airbrush holder. never turning off by itself even after long session. maybe I should by 5 of this instead...
I also upgraded by airbrush from entry level to supposedly mid-tier "real" airbrush and don't feel significant difference..
>>
>>23905999
>>23906001
/gpg/ bros I need your thoughts on this and compressor/airbrush gear in general. is this entire industry a huge scam? I feel like I just wasted $200, which is a lot for a poorfag like me :(
>>
>>23906001
Been around a while. This one is a repurposed aquarium air pump disguised as an entry air compressor to scam idiots. It doesn't shut off after an hour or whatever because it's designed to work under moderate load 24/7 for years...just badly.

>>23905999
Was it running, like compressing for the entire 40 minutes? With a tank that size as long as the pressure is set to something reasonable (sub 30PSI) it should finish filling the tank within a minute or so. If it was just pumping continuously like your older little one, that's fucking bad and probably why it has now fused itself together. Honestly China saved you from a house fire, so thank Chang for the extended warranty on life.

That's the one I have now and I've used it for about 6 years. My old one was the same without the tank and it's been going strong for a decade.
>>
>>23906013
I'm new to this and here's what I do with the compressor
1. tape the connector
2. install the pressure meter and connect to airbrush
3. turn on the compressor
4. let it run for 1 minute until it reaches 30psi
5. lock the working psi
6. start spraying
7. air pressure gets refilled constantly as I spray
8. 40 minutes later, it turned off by itself and became extremely hot.

I expected something like 2 hours spraying session with very little break (for switching paint and cleaning airbrush). is this an unreasonable demand? but I did that just fine with my entry mini compressor. I'm baffled that this real compressor can't even do that...
>>
File: 1781198338555592.jpg (17 KB, 561x356)
17 KB JPG
>>23906020
Ok, but you say "lock the working PSI". Realistically you turn it on and turn it up or down to the PSI you want and the motor kicks OFF while the air tank is relatively close to that PSI until it drops beneath a threshold upon which it kicks back on to return to that threshold. Again, even if you're using it for fourty minutes it's likely on 20 min or less and at intervals. 30PSI is also a fucking LOT for paint. I paint synthetic acrylics, waterbased acrylics, enamel, and lacquer. All between 14-23PSI and the shit I spray at 23PSI is like...sludgy polyurethane weird paint I don't like.

30 is getting close to leather and clothes dyes that have to penetrate in like a shotgun at point blank to stay in during washes. 30PSI is my vehicle tires lol. You likely need to be closer to 18, and in the future if it was on for more than a minute or so at a time, I'd check for air leaks. A drop of dish soap in a spray bottle with water, spray the joints and look for leaks.

What you're describing at the end is a safety shutoff. Thank Chang, learn2airbrush friend (don't be a kid, learn a bit then try it so you don't ruin gear), live and learn.

>>23906028
I kinda know what I did wrong, which someone said it's step no.5. I'm supposed to let the compressor pressurized and stop, and then set the working psi. But I'm still not sure since it still got really hot after 30 minutes and it only takes like 1-2 minutes of spraying until the compressor turns on again to fill the air pressure. and then it gets full/turn off after 1-2 minutes of not doing anything. isn't this too short of a working/filling up interval?

I also just noticed that my compressor's pipe is bent and it was like this since unboxing. what the hell.
>>
>>23906054
You turn it down all the way first as well. Kinda looks like you got a return. Either way this would have caused a new one to struggle if not damaged it permanently. Turn it down a lot then turn it on. Let it get to pressure then stop itself, then adjust pressure up where you want.

Don't spray 30PSI unless you're spraying your own goo out of it bro. A 1L tank like that and 30PSI it's going to constantly be on. The pipe sucks but it won't be mission critical.
>>
what's up with these compressors they don't just shut off when they reach a target pressure, you have to turn it off manually?
>>
>>23906058
Some don't have a target pressure because they're too cheap. To pressurize you need something to pressurize. But a lot of them are like pancake/diaphragm with no place to put the pressurized air but the tubing to your airbrush. They tend to come with single action airbrushes as a result that have no air control. It's full blast all the time and tends to be ~12PSI fluctuating. I janked together one ages upon ages ago when I realized the fish tank pumps I had around was just itching to become the worst airbrush compressor it could be. Their PSI has this weird surging to it because of the nature of the diaphragm pushing like a lung pumping. It's so fast and small it's hard to notice until you realize how shit your paintjobs are. My kid's first one was one of the rechargeable ones like this, now he's using my old tankless one like everyone has from harbor freight.
>>
>>23906061
NTA but I bought a chang compressor with my first airbrush
and then I bought an air tank that's like thrice the compressor's value, i let it run for a while to fill the tank and then spray

it's so fucking bent and worrying.. I'm definitely going to try returning this faulty compressor. Idk if I'd be able to since I live in a backwards country with rampant anti-consumer business practices.

>You turn it down all the way first as well
what do you mean? turn the regulator all the way left until 0 psi? I just cleared the air by pulling off the plug at the bottom (HUGE BOOM AIR SOUND) and the regulator is at 0 right now.

>Let it get to pressure then stop itself
Does it matter if the regulator lock is locked/unlocked while pressurizing?

>adjust pressure up where you want.
I did this by spraying the airbrush, not by turning the regulator valve. that's incorrect huh?

>Don't spray 30PSI
How much Psi is ideal for lacquer painting?

A lot of their original girlpla are pretty good (Nuke Matrix, Eastern Model, Souling Toys, etc.). For Gunpla, there's a few that "just" commit IP infringement and make pretty good kits that don't exist in Bandai's ecosystem (e.g. Solomon/Axis Model Works which made the 1/100 modernized GP02 and 1/100 MGEX-quality Kshatriya), you'll have to do your research and ask around. The ones that copy existing Bandai kits (e.g. Daban) tend to be crappy but are tolerated because it's a way to get Bandai-like kits for half the price or so, and if your modeling skills are good (and you're lucky with the mold) you can fix the majority of mistakes to get something close to 85% as good as what Bandai would make.

First you would have to determine how many have actually built it, and how many are just saying that it's good because of a YT video they watched.
>>
>>23906305
It's my favorite MG but not because the kit is amazing or special in any way, I just like the design more than anything else from Gundam.
>>
I don't understand you people. What makes a model 'good' to you? How many JoJo poses it can do? If those unko poop kits could do your silly jojo poses would you rate them platinum tier?
>OH NO I HAVE TO PAINT THIS TINY LITTLE VENT! BRONZE TIER! BRONZE TIER!!!
>>
>>23906323
Stability and hitting the sweet spot for detail where it's not too little for it's size and not too much. Also a good looking inner frame. Articulation is nice but most kits are good enough for me in that department. Also, actually being a complete kit and not one you have to buy plastic DLC to have the complete load out.
>>
>>23906323
what the fuck does "bronze tier" even mean
>>
>>23906329
it means it's better than "tin tier"
>>
>>23906284
If you're not an advanced modeler, Blokees far surpasses Bandai. They're less complex builds but look much better out of the box.
I have the Eva 01 from Blokees and I got no complaints other than the very tight fits when snapping the articulation together.
If you wanna customize them I'd recommend Bandai. Blokees' kits are more of an in-between of plamo and action figures, as a lot of details are painted on instead of color separated.

Looks cool for just cardboard. It's sad that most common (read, cheap) N scale stuff is way to old fashioned in style or just smoll townhouses and such. >>
>>23906306

It's a self assembly action figure more than a model kit, I guess that's a diverent product so Bandai can give out a sub license for those ip's.

Yeah n gauge building prices are pretty aids, best luck I have had is getting stuff from local model train fairs but even then its as you say with 90% of it being more in style for a 1950's village then a war torn space age city.

The 2022 MG is a slightly improved version of the 1999 MG, and is basically the same kit as the 2022 MG Dom but with the space vernier parts and different weapon. For a grunt MS it's probably acceptable, though apparently you still have to do some sanding/filing/cutting on certain joints to reduce stiffness.

The old kit honestly held up really well as long as you didn't go into expecting a full inner frame. The 1.5 didn't really need to do much. No real complaints, it looks good, comes with a bunch of shit, and can pose well.

but anon told me this chink stuff is inherently garbage???
>>
>>23906626
Chinese shit honestly runs the entire spectrum. Some is absolute dogshit trash and some is top of the industry and there really is no way to tell until it's in your hands. So do you feel lucky punk?

How long do I need to let my top coat dry?
>>
>>23906658
How short do I need my bottom coat wet?

69 hours. Now answer my question

when will it be my turn to be happy

Lacquer? Generally a few hours if you're impatient. Otherwise leave it alone for a day

NTA, it is a shit Chinkified redesign and the gold plastic's quality is just bad.

Hobby Lobby update:
Even more Zoids and RG Hi-Nu in stock for $43

>>23906694
I'll be honest, I'm quite surprised that they don't stock HG The Gundam Revive, and only the EG, MG 3.0 and occasionally the RG 1.0. That seems like something that Bandai would reprint on a regular basis.

Easy fix but I feel silly for not noticing until I posted the image

The mgsd wing zero can't fucking hold its weapons, I had to fucking glue them on. I would have expected a kit from fucking 2024 would be able to hold it's fucking accesories effectively
>>
>>23906701
Okay I found out there's a second attachment point in the wrist and it can hold them that way. But they still should have a more effective system for the hands
>>
I'm such a stupid snapshitter

based
>>
>>23906745
At the very least you should learn how go panel line and top coat your kits. It's not hard and makes it look good.
>>
>>23906756
Topcoating is difficult and can make the kit look worse if you fuck it up. I wouldn't advise it to snapshitters

Finally the Chinks are opening their eyes on how superior 1/144 is compared to 1/100.

Anyone have experience with spraying lacquer color over an Aqueous bascoat?
I've had no issues spraying lacquer topcoat over aqueous color paints before after letting it fully cure, is base coat fine too?
>>
>>23906820
I want the 1/144 version's proportions in 1/100. I dig the slightly bulkier(and less detailed) design but 1/100 is objectively the superior scale.
