I just finished watching original Gundam.

Did Anno copy gundam and made Shinji just like Amuro, but a lot worse?

It's really the parent/child conflict that seems clearly Gundam inspired, although it's a much bigger focus in Eva.
>>
>>23907343
You still need to see Victory Gundam and Ideon. Victory has the trauma and maternal conflict much more pronounced, while Ideon has some archetypes of the main characters, in addition to its themes of metaphysical dread, not to mention the concluding film (a masterpiece by the way and my favorite thing in the medium) which is literally the basis for End of Evangelion.

Actually Shinji is Boss Baby.

>Whiny teenager pilots the thing his dad made
>Big theme of how important and also impossible understanding each other is
>Final episode is MC deciding not to kill himself
There's more DNA in common than fans of either franchise will readily admit, but Gainax was the first generation of anime creators that grew up watching anime. Anime from the 70s and 80s are very much in the DNA of everything they did. They didn't try to hide it, it wasn't plain knockoff. They knew they were walking a path that had been paved for them and even leaned on that fact in presuming their own audience would have certain shared experiences with them. Then they made a whole anime about this process and experience. People didn't get it because it aired like 40 years after some of it's predecessors that it drew on most directly, but it had cool shouting and some internet memes so they liked it anyway and now anime and especially /m/ culture is forever tainted.

you know this entire discussion is retarded becasue you wrote a paragraph to explain "anno watched anime"
>>
Everyone who got into Gundam after 2015 is trans

Here's your (You). Don't spend it all in one place.
>>

Correct. IBO is a significant part of trans culture. Not as big as FF14, but close.

UC Gundam you mean

No, it's plainly obvious Eva is inspired by Gundam in some capacity and it's odd you think someone would be afraid to admit that. Your post is just retarded.
>>
>>23907380
I wholly agree with Ideon. It's as much as a hopeless psychological piece as EVA, and EVA gets all the credit.
>>
>>23907640
Eva fans will downplay Gundam influence just like Gundam fans will downplay Star Wars influence and Star Wars fans will downplay Kurosawa influence. The connection between each of the series is not only "plainly obvious" but outright stated so they can't deny it, but with frequency they will minimize it and say "Yeah just this one little itty bitty thing" because they want their favorite thing to be special and unique and singular because that will justify why they love only the one thing so much and not the others. It's just really regular fanboy behavior and you'll find it in other media lineages too. The fact that you're so sheltered from the behavior and you the super smart logical man don't do it does not change the fact that most fanboys are apes.

I posted that years ago here and everyone ganged up on me saying I didn't understand Evangelion.
>>
>>23907815
This is true, but people in turn over emphasis superficial similarities (someone brought up Victory Gundam) to discredit the influenced show/director or outright make things up e.g. the evageeks page ironically. Both are very reactionary positions to praise whatever work they like more. I feel it comes more from a place of ignorance rather than willful denial more times than not. How could Evangelion be a "deconstruction" if it didn't invert, subvert, or play with established tropes by the giants of the genre? I just don't think it's a recent revelation either. Also, on the other hand, key elements of Evangelion's narrative comes from a guy who never watched mecha anime.
>>
>>23907822
You didn't understand Gundam either.
>>
>>23907476
I got into it in late 2017 and I'm a straight white male that hates trannies though.
>>
>erm was anno influenced by tomino???
earth-shattering revelation
>>
>>23907361
The parent child, specifically father-son, conflict is as old as Steel Jeeg. Daitarn also did it.
>>
>>23907462
NTA. Anno obviously did a lot more than that. He worked on Char's Counterattack and founded a Tomino fan club WITHIN the industry.
>>
>>23907343
The more you watch Gundam the more you'll relize anno is a hack and Eva sucks
