Is EVERYONE in Zeta fucking autistic? EVERY single episode, somebody says one sentence and then somebody else screams and leaves in a huff.
What the fuck is wrong with all these people? Is there something in the ship's water?

Tomino's writing is shit

Having to use the image of Kamille collapsing after seeing his mother die is ironic because his reaction is completely convincing.
But hey, yes, you could call them autistic, although I think it's brilliant. Tomino's realism lies in the authenticity of his characters; they all have problems and are unstable, which gives them a depth far superior to that of any average series. If you don't have the sensitivity to appreciate Tomino's theatrical and operatic style, then I don't think you'll get much out of continuing to watch Zeta.

Pulling the exact same trick every time doesn't lend it much depth.
>"Kamille what's up?"
>"WOWWWWW DON'T FUCKIN' TALK TO ME FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOUUUUUUUUU"
>"Amuro are you in there?"
>"WOWWWWW DON'T FUCKIN' TALK TO ME FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOUUUUUUUUU"
"Fa are you alright?"
>"WOWWWWW DON'T FUCKIN' TALK TO ME FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOUUUUUUUUU"
>"Katz you can pilot a mobile suit?"
>"WOWWWWW DON'T FUCKIN' TALK TO ME FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOUUUUUUUUU"

Everyone has different conflicts; if you can't distinguish them or don't care about them, that's another matter. Tomino tends to repeat some tricks, but his writing is consistently solid.
The characters are not hateful because they are badly written; they are unstable, stubborn, and contradictory people, and they all tend to have redeeming qualities and nuances.

It is realistic, reactions for dealing with loss, trauma, combat fatigue, killing people, sexual frustration and confusion fall into just a couple of schema, one is either glib acceptance/devaluing the experience, which leads to highly unstable behavior later. Or avoidance/rejection/anger.

I think it's psychologically realistic that untrained, pressganged soldiers, most of whom are still in high school, would have pretty stereotyped reactions to extreme combat stress. I mean hell Amuro frequently vacillates from "I can shoot hundreds of these people I don't care I'm saving everyone I know and care about" to "What the fuck am I a monster don't talk to me." Kamille toward the end of Zeta is in the "I'll do what I have to, I will stop the war myself" phase which leads to "I am a fucking potato my mind is in ruins." Reccoa glibly accepts what happens to her, rationalizes it, yearns for acceptance, snaps when she realizes she can't get acceptance for herself from soldiers with their own problems. Fa is confused, feels helpless, gets made to kill people to save her boyfriend, and sucks at squaring the circle of doing that while also being a surrogate mother. Kamille can't handle the sexual stress of intensely psychically bonding with a bunch of exploited, often drug-addicted, often extensively tortured young women while being in a stable but mostly convenient and less passionate relationship with a childhood friend.

People in zeta get put through a fucking wringer again and again, then almost everyone explodes. I don't get where avoidant/hostile responses to people after going through the wringer is lacking in depth.

That said Bright is a shit CO for failing to instill any military discipline in any of them on the Argama.

every spacenoid has a mild case of oxygen deprivation. that is why spacenoids have a rationale that in order to preserve the earth and stop pollution, the best answer is to drop space colonies and giant space rocks to destroy the earth's atmosphere and flora and fauna.

Tomino did less writing and more storyboarding in MSG and ZZ, and that's why the characters in there are more bearable despite dealing with the same situations, and every action scene is simply better. Zetafags just love to wank to the MUH REALISM meme but they really don't know what they're talking about, they just want to delude themselves since Kamille is their ideal male fantasy protagonist

You kind of get the sense Bright is a little awkward being a Captain for the AEUG and can't fully move to treating everyone like official soilders. He does not have the full confidence to do military discipline like he did in the actual Federation Military and he does again in Chars Counter Attack. The problem seems to grow worse in ZZ too.
