-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

you aren't spraying lacquers at combustible air:fuel ratios unless you have zero ventilation in a very small space. you could keep a pilot light in the exhaust duct and nothing would happen. if you're still a paranoid retard, a brushless fan won't spark.

My compressor (fengda LS18-2S) has suddenly stopped working. The on/off switch still lights up, but no air is pumped and there is no noise. It was a few minutes into a painting session when it stopped pumping air. I was spraying at around 20 psi. There was no sudden noise, no smell and the whole compressor was still cool so I doubt anything melted down. Any ideas for troubleshooting this at home or do I need to get a replacement/find a shop to fix it?

Built the AK Hizack Custom bootleg. It's pretty good. The few bootlegs from other brands that I built are noticeably less sharp than Bandai's when you look closely at the details. The AK stuff seems just about 1:1 with Bandai though. I'll dust off their version of the AoZ Hizack later for comparison.

I bought a third party gun because it looks like something you'd see on a Fujioka artwork, but that plastic looks like hot ass even after topcoat. Will have to repaint the whole thing when the weather allows.

>>
>>23909169

>>
>>23909169
Because they are not popular so they don't get the scale efficiency that other model companies get. That's why Bandai gives you more plastic per yen than other Japanese companies.
It's also why China can undercut so much. They have tons of companies cranking out plastic injection molds daily for all the plastic crap China is producing. You can go from mold design to physical mold both quickly and relatively cheaply.

Finished the saber tiger (schwarz special). It's probably the worst of the RMZ zoids I've built. There's a lot of design differences that just look meaningfully worse than the HMM version. Overall, still excellent.

The level of greeble is more or less the same. The HMM has a lot more mechanical detail on the legs and neck in particular. The color separation on the guns are also a lot better. Without some masking the RMZ version has guns that are entirely molded silver. I added the gold myself. I still might go back and mask off parts of the gun to paint them black.

He kinda always is. He has painted a few Gunpla a long time ago, and even painted some of the SMP when he thinks stickers do not suffice on some spots. Because he's dealing with ancient 1989 SDs, he's meant to paint all of them.

On a different topic, do you feel insulted when reissues of retail kits end up P-Bandai exclusive? The LBX Hyper Function Achilles and Emperor are getting reissues, but they're now locked to P-Bandai compared to five years ago. Soon after, they might release every single LBX remakes from that year as P-Bandai, including the non-HF Achilles and Hunter. Is it because the entire brand is niche in people's eyes now?

Need to figure out what I'm going to do about panel lining the shins. The edges there keep letting the panel liner rub off to just hand oil, so might need to scribe them? Might just panel line marker them right before the clear coat?
Also the hands are god awful. Popped out 3 of the fingers on one hand getting the closest joint moveable. Might need to figure out if there are good third party hands.

Honestly it's pretty great. Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake. The government treats their people like some natural resource that regenerates, and not like humans. As a result of this they can squeeze a ton of labor cheaply out at the cost of lives and quality of lives. Then add to that that part of their economic warfare requires them to do this to the extreme, plus take some of their profits from stealing advances and use it to subsidize every business exporting. Now we get goods cheaper. Don't ingest their edible products but damn cheap mecha kits are nice.

We can't change their minds but we can fuck over people participating in the hyper inflation of all things for the sake of squeezing profit out of others in all other sectors within our country and japan.

Buy chinese shit (specifically mostly parts and pieces) and screw all the people trying to buy those same things and sell them for a 10x markup in our market.

this is where you're outing yourself as retarded. japs chose explicitly not to participate in hyperinflation. price controls and negative interest rates allowed them to keep cost of living and products low, and the average jap salary is only around 35k USD as a result. they keep a 2% inflation target, but with deflationary periods it averages out around closer to 1%.

Are godhands actually worth it?
>>
>>23910135
You really don't need them if you plan to paint.
>>
>>23910135
You'll never convince me that they're anything more than simple time savers. If you use regular nippers, a hobby knife and a glass file, you can achieve much the same results, and even if some stress marks remain you can simply get rid of them with an agate knife.
>>
>>23910125
Yeah you're right I don't know nor do I need to care about Japanese market economics and economy to make my decision. I'm speaking as an American spending American money in and outside of the American market. Your point is irrelevant to what I've said or been concerned with.

>>23910140
Glass files are to files what godhands are to sharp edged nippers. Both are just expensive time savers that don't save you a lot of time at that. Better to use a decent file and let primer/topcoat smooth out the details after the totally negligible 800grit marks.
>>
>>23910141
>expensive
Son, the basic bitch glass file I've been using for the last three years cost me like five bucks on Amazon. You're stupid if you think that's comparable to spending $100+ on some Godhands.
>>
>>23910146
It's not comparable in price, it's comparable in useage. I didn't bring up price, nor did you until now..for no clear reason. Glass files are more fine, and cut finer amounts thus a bit slower. They change sheen, something anyone who's not a snapfag doesn't give a shit about doing to the plastic itself. It's not worthwhile to do the entire of your sanding with something closer to 1k-3k when it's like 1-2 passes with a decent file (which is more expensive, if you're keeping track). Time, the much more valuable resource is retained. That and I guess health because if you're using a dry glass file and not wearing a dust mask you're breathing fine plastic powder which will kill you just barely slower than lacquer.
>>
>>23910141
>>23910146
I get better results from using cheap buffer blocks than glass files.

we really should just use the term "unlicensed" instead. third party implies some form of contractual licensing or a unique design. it does not imply IP infringement. meanwhile a bootleg would need an existing kit to copy, so that doesn't work either.

it's not even broken in that image.
it's just a loose ball joint. it'll pop back in, but can still fall out easily. all of the gundam hands like this can develop this problem, regardless of color. the zeon versions are more robust.

Have you actually built the kit? The gold plastic deforms and the ball joint can no longer stay in the socket. Similar issue to the MG Turn A's hands. Never had this issue in all the MGs I've built until these two kits.
>>
>>23910609
The site is legit? I thought it looked fake as fuck when I saw that link.
>>
>>23910611
Are you too dumb to put a bit of clear acrylic on the ball joint?
>>
>>23910611
it's fixable. you can bend the socket until it gets smaller. I did it with my nu.
turn a hands are fine if you aren't a monkey.
>>
>>23910613
I looked around before ordering and it seems like local retailer in California with a brick and mortar store that does US shipping. It's not unheard of. Hell, I have one of those in my city, they just didn't have a Turn X.

There's a lot of stores like that. I've had a few bad experiences with them (not moepla) in the past so I avoid them.

the fact they went with 1/87 and 1/100 is possibly telling why bandai didn't bother. tuberculosis was 90% a 1/144 line, and a 1/144 tuberculosis acguy would have been a bit of a pain to design.

the proper scale Acguy isn't much taller than the average HG though

the hands are polypropylene at ball socket. it's soft and can be worked, just as how you deformed it with your hamhands when breaking the moldings free.

the loto is also a significantly simpler design, especially when you take into account the sensor parts the acguy has (and their moving parts; see >>23910365). a proper 1/144 scale tb acguy would be miniscule.

Ok, so I just did my first snaa kit. Gota say visually stunning and awesome to build. But... the chink in charge of the water slides should be locked up by the ccp. Those things would start disintegrating 2 seconds after touching water. The white water slides were particularly fragile. I ended up only able to get half the decals on so it still looks decent but kind of soured an otherwise good experience. Also they called for slides to be put in the middle of seem lines kek. Anyways the joints are pretty tight except for the arms so it cant carry its big ass laser/sword thing? Could be a user error but it seems to affect a lot of people differently. I would give it an 8/10 just on the fact that the runners have had the best underrating I have ever seen in my life (japs take notes). Next kit I am just going to paint the runners with the pieces still on them.

Tips for applying stickers? It's a pain to get them off the paper, and the I keep slipping and mashing them when I try to handle those lil fuckers with the tweazers

Well yeah, to replicate paint on metal you need to put paint on plastic.

I used the tip of my hobby knife back when I still did stickers. The sharp edge makes it easier to get underneath the sticker, and cleanly lifts it off the sheet.

Thanks! It's way better than removing them by hand/with the tweazers

Also, why some gunplas have stickers for their inner parts to begin with? My RG Tallgese has a lot of them, but I won't even get to see them, I really don't get it
>>
>>23911591
The tip is to throw away the sticker sheet and shell out $3-5 for waterslide decals. For the eye, anything is better than a sticker, I use this sparingly, but even a gunpla marker is better in a pinch.

I'm currently working on one! It'll be a brand-agnostic collaborative gunpla database with as much data as possible.
It'll probably be online in like a month.

Should've used a metallic red marker instead
>>
>>23911701
I don't want to spend more money
>>
>>23911704
Metallic markers are a pretty good investment, they tend to look good and are easy to clean up (when applied on lacquer). Handbrushed metallic paints don't always look good in comparaison, unless you drybrush or spongepaint but lmao spongpainting in those specific spots
>>
>>23911707
I have no plan on detail painting metallic red for my next 10 project or so, I'd rather put extra effort than spend money. These markers are also more expensive than a GX series paint.

>>23911707
Is there any real benefit over brush painting? Why not reuse the same paint you have for aibrushing anyway
>>
>>23911727
It's fine if you're certain you're not going to fuck up. I sometimes handbrush lacquer on top of lacquer for very small details, but in case of a fuck up there's no wiping it off like a marker or enamel paint
>>
>>23911726
If it stays it stays, if not, put a drop of glue in the peg hole.

It may or may not refer to the part being visible, someone else who reads moon runes can comment. I think I've seen this for parts that are supposed to be tight fitting as well and aren't visible.

The "skirt" pins won't reach the holes in the legs, and the legs themselves feel a bit..stiff? Seems one of them is also shorter than the other by 1cm somehow

can you not clamp the parts flush to close the seam? do they move and spring back, or do they not move at all?
if they do move, wick in some cement and clamp the seam shut.
