just watching UC for the first time, and everyone I know has hyped up char to death as some type of revolutionary or ubermensch figure. but I cannot for the life of me unsee him as a larper who can't shake the fact that mommy is gone.

I mean yeah, that's Char. He's a pretender and he has been pretending all his life, and he'll keep pretending. He could be said to be something of a complex man because he does have genuine causes or grievances at times which tug at him or which he uses as cover but beneath them tends to be something much smaller, more personal and petty.

The entire point is that underneath the mask of every revolutionary radical is a sad and pathetic man who is lacking something much more basic. Kamille in Zeta was a child destroyed by this man, and the only way he is saved in the ANT movie adaptation is by keeping himself grounded in love with an actual, living woman. Amuro in CCA is the same. Grounded in real interests in the world, patient, hopeful. Char could have been great if he had found (and kept) real love.

>Char could have been great if he had found (and kept) real love.
He could have had his chance with an amazing woman that would have given everything and anything for him, but he didn't want it because she wasn't Lalah.

Yep! Haman exists to demonstrate the similarities between Quattro/Char and the AEUG and Scirocco and the Titants. Scirocco literally doesn't even have an ideology, just a penis. All he does is destroy women's lives to gratify his own ego. Char does the same thing. Lalah, Haman, Reccoa, Quess...

I genuinely think he was happiest as Quatro Vagina. Just go around, shoot some people, give out some orders. He didn't have to think about the big stuff, he already got his revenge at that point.

zoomers just use whatever word they see on the internet

I feel like to some extent he got really unlucky during the OYW and that if certain outside circumstances had worked out differently (ex. not being up against the Gundam constantly or Lalah not bonding with Amuro), he might have actually been able to move on mentally afterward. Or just been killed in battle maybe.

That's not to like absolve him of any responsibility or whatever, but some of it just feels like the consequences of not being the protagonist and having the universe of the show itself stacked against him eventually taking a mental toll on him or something. Like yeah it's fucked up that he's clearly using Lalah for battle, but he weirdly seemed like he was slowly opening up to her a little more as the episodes progressed and getting more genuine feelings, only to get immediately cucked emotionally by his rival and then also having her immediately die to him. Feels kind of cruel on like a cosmic level, like I can actually get how that'd be something that'd deeply fuck you up and you'd never get over

His breakdown in CCA makes total sense when you consider how his entire life has been nothing but Ls and he's watching Amuro pull space magic out of his ass to push back Axis after it had already reached the point that was calculated to be the point of no return. Char had finally won for the first time in his entire life and fate finds a new way to tear it away from him.

It's less that Casval Deikun is amazing, it's more that Char Aznable: The Red Comet, is incredible. You can kind of see how it bothers him in Zeta when he's forced to take the stage at Dakar. He could have said "peepee poopoo" and that still would have been enough to inspire spacenoids.

This is a good analysis.

How did he destroy Haman's life???
>>
I think Char hates, in some fashion, having an identity. He would be happier as a random no-name civilian somewhere that no one spares a second glance at. Unfortunately, he keeps getting pulled into all kinds of bullshit by the ambitions of others.

Haman herself is just like Char. the thing she had with Judau was even worse than what Char did. She even tried to do like what Char later did in CCA and failed even more. (that's not to say Char isn't kind of a failure)
A bunch of pitiful losers who screw each others up creating even more pitiful losers. What they both needed, they needed it a long time before what happened in the story.

He's looking for a mother, not a wife.

The whole point is that he didn't want to have to be Casval Deikun. He did not want to have to bear the weight of Zeon or the newtype revolution. He wanted to be coddled, to be allowed to be weak, and to be loved without condition. The simple act of admiring him is offensive to him because that admiration comes with an unspoken expectation that he should continue to display these admirable traits and that expectation was what he wanted to escape.
