Did most of the people here who watched VOTOMs do it fairly recently? Even the old school fans? I don't recall hearing about this title. Granted, I'm more of a super robot fan and I watched gaogaigar in the mid 2000s. I dunno. Maybe I'm just a n00b
>>
Museru is eternal (I watched it in 2021)
>>
>>23912484
most old school fans would have seen and forgotten about it awhile ago, it was first licensed and released in English on VHS in the mid 90s
I first watched it in 2013
>>
>>23912504
I dunno, seems like it gets talked about frequently by old school mecha fans today. I don't remember this happening a while back
>>
>>23912507
it helps that between the new plamo from Bandai and the new movies, it's been a bit more in the public conscious again
>>
>>23912507
>old school mecha fans
Real ones or LARPers?
>>
>>23912515
I mean, go to any mecha discussion place, its always dudes who claim to have been watching anime since the 90s, some japanese audio since the 80s. Some legitimately look close to 60 so I can believe it.
>>
>>23912484
I don't even remember, but it was maybe ten years ago? I couldn't even tell you how I first heard about Votoms, but I think I knew about it well before I was able to actually watch it.
>>
Yeah it's kinda new people in here talk about Toku shit so much. Votoms seems to be mentioned more recently. Not as popular before.
>>
>>23912484
I started watching it in 2024, I watched everything except the last two rando OVAs that wasn't Mellowlink
Actually a bit bummed out when I see something like
>everything to discuss about this has already been done before at this point, let the thread die
Because there might be me and like one or two other people who're going through it, Votoms is an absolutely fun ride, a bit miserable but never in a punishing or gruelling way.
>>
>>23912484
I watched it when it first showed up in SRW.
>>
>>23912484
I watched it like a decade ago in dogshit quality.
>>
I watched the original series and a few of the OVAs years ago, but stopped after Mellowlink and haven't seen all of it yet.

I wasn't old enough to have watched it near when it was first released--I was born in '87--but I did get the ammo box DVD set way back when...jeez, what was it, 2006 or 2007, I think. That said Die Graue Hexe is on the way so that might explain an influx of new fans, getting in touch with the old stuff to prepare themselves for the newest installment.
>>
Also, is L-Gaim the same way? Where it had a resurgance in popularity even among older anime fans? recently.
>>
>>23913629
They just released an L-Gaim BD in the west--I'm waiting for mine to arrive next week--so that could add more popularity too for new folks.
>>
I watched it when that scuffed blu ray release came out
>>
>>23914196
It was also in the last two SRW games
>>
>>23912484
I watched it in 2009 iirc
I have 3 favorite anime and it's one of them
>>
>>23913023
Only a bit miserable?
>>
>>23912484
I'm watching it nowadays but it's incredibly boring. The story isn't interesting at all and it's pretty bland.
The mecha part of it is pretty weak too.
Not sure why it's popular

>Not sure why it's popular
The average zoomer has a quarter of the testosterone people had 30 years ago.

Some of the biggest Votoms fans were women who wanted to peg Ypsilon and whip Chirico.
>>
>ackshuly strong independent women are the real fans
Why do americans keep making up shit like this?

I guess the actual official artwork in several different magazines and things like The Last Red Shoulder featuring ample naked Ypsilon time was created by Americans.
