The difficulty is mostly in the early game. If you use your BP properly and optionally the Sound Force it becomes more tolerable.

EN/Weapons, learn to use support attack and distribute pilot parts properly. Annoyingly limiting up to the end of the 1st split when it comes to beating retreating bosses, but its pretty tolerable afterwards.

Difficulty changes heavily depending on stage routing and your birthday. Just make it your business to teach as many pilots as possible Concentrate and one of Hit/Crit/SP+.

Earth Crisis is way harder that the other two acts and this happens to be the introductory one. Its a lot like Radiant Dawn where having knowledge of unit availability can make or break your run. Its also really important to realize that there's nothing wrong with upgrading units that won't make it into your final team (barring Gandor, Dunbine ships and Gato since they leave permanently).

RKO is a generic melee attacker. RKO needs to build morale for decent P moves because OG deleted the ones that it had from Alpha for some reason.
If you teach H&A to Kusuha or pair it up with something like the SRX, you'd be surprised at how good they are at cleaning up trash.

IIRC OG2 and OGs also put Gekirindan on the wrong upgrade tier, so it was better to turn Kusuha into a SP Up/Concentrate/SP Regen battery while Bullet learned Attacker/Support Attack/Assist Attack to abuse his finisher's cheap EN cost. OGG fixed Gekirindan's damage output and then from OG2nd onwards, RKO is the better machine.

The only things I found annoying were that enemies ignore your unit with too much evade, and the final Zeorymer map has a nasty setup where you have to kill the bosses in a certain order or else you get half your team nuked with a strike+valor map attack, and if you try to kill them all ilat the same time, the others will just survive, fullheal, and buff up regardless after the first one explodes.

You need like ~170ish mobility for the M Sized units but its very much and annoyingly possible for the S Sized units to get hit by the enemies won't target them problem.
Earth/Mountain/Thunder do the same thing on both of their stages IIRC. I do agree that its annoying considering that J only caps out at +1000/1100/1250 at 10 bars to "compensate" for 20 upgrade mode.

Bullet already natively gets Infight 8, so its way easier to build him as the damage dealer. Kusuha will have to wait on 2nd OG before she becomes relevant as an offensive lead for bosses.

I don't know about that. They nerfed magma vassal changing it to 3-9 from 1-8 (though it's now cheaper) and hazanken is as expensive as ever. Meanwhile KRO gets a new ALL ranged attack to compensate its weakness. However tyrant overbreak has B sky and KRO has weaker platoon attack so you still want to use RKO for maximum break.

Yes, RKO is classed as ranged but its attacks primarily run off Kusuha's melee stat. In any case, you mainly use the ranged moves for counters and the melee moves for movement.

Are Super Robot Wars 3, GC, Alpha Gaiden or Y bad starting points to get into the series? All the other recommended ones I see online mostly feature series I don't know so I'm not sure about starting with those.

3's main issue is it suffers from early game jankiness (like how you can miss a character because you beat the stage too quickly), but personally I don't think it's a bad game and can be over quickly compared to more recent games
GC has a few unique things to itself which may seem weird as your first SRW since they'll never appear again
Alpha Gaiden is a perfectly fine game, the only issue is it's a sequel to another game and the story reminds you of this basically every chapter for the first 10 chapters, but the real story starts after that so it's not really a big problem for me and it still gives you a good idea of what SRW games are
Y free form structure is also different from other SRW, and the game is very long as a result, but I honestly enjoyed it and it also gives a good idea of what SRW usually are

I'm playing 3 right now, and if you wanted to start with an older title I would much recommend 2 over it.
I'm still early into 3, but the game is pretty brutal in it's balancing, you get your shit absolutely rocked as early as the second or third map (depending on the route you take) and your team is horribly underpowered outside of the main character units, they either can't hit the broadside of a barn or are in danger of dying in one hit at max HP, and on top of this, your crappy GMs cost 900 to repair if they die while you're earning like 150-200 cash per enemy you kill. I've never felt so inclined to savescum as I do playing SRW3, you're put at such a crazy disadvantage it feels intentional.
Also the game is pretty slow to play since there's no animation skipping yet, so you have to watch every attack animation every time.

GC or Alpha Gaiden would be much better starting points.

It's kind of a fact, weapon upgrades in Alpha Gaiden are prohibitively expensive.
Even with the Hard mode carryover you only have enough to max weapons on 3 good units or 4 shitters who barely break 4k at max upgrades.

I don't mean to say the game is impossible without Shin Getter or Kaiser, but I am saying you can get away with using shitters like Zamzeed, Hi-Nu, the Wing boys or basically anyone without the accuracy to even hit Shu in the Neo Granzon if you keep a concealed carry Fire Blaster as insurance.
There's a bunch of other units you can use to deal big dick damage like Dancouga, Braiger, V2AB or one I always see people overlook, R-Gun Powered.
Viletta has really high stats probably to compensate not being around for many stages to farm stat exp and the HTB cannon goes kinda crazy.

And Earth's variant is still easier. The enemies are neatly spread out, to the point that Leona can effortlessly solo an entire section by herself. Ryusei/Excellen have no real issues tag teaming another side, while Russel is borderline unkillable thanks to his dirt cheap Guard and Katina has no qualms with finishing off any trash that might have split from your guys. The Barrelion pincer is easier than it sounds to deal with because they all have gimped movement. Pretty easy for Leona, Ryusei and Excellen to move in, especially when two of them have Hit and Away.

In moon route it's still easier because your only goal is to protect the shirogane, again, there's no threat besides losing your ship and you can control its movement anyways. The Hagane's reinforcements spawn in the middle of the map to clear out what little remains of the first wave and then the Gespensts + Ouka and Echidna spawn further up to the point you can just reposition into the standard meat grinder formation before they reach you.
Moon route is also the way to go in GBA because it provides the only chance to upgrade the Hiryu and load it with a resupply module for stage 15.

If they didn't care about quality level and were just looking to score reputation, then first and foremost they would *NOT* be releasing this anonymously but would be using atleast a pseudonym to go by. Secondly, if they didn't care about the quality level, they wouldn't have invested time in cleaning up shenanigans like variable width fonts, or the various flavors of text graphics that don't conform to the standard dialog font metrics. (Both of which they actually DID work on!)

They might not have the programming experience to get this 100% correct with manual coding (which in case of ROM hacking is a fucking nightmare in 99.99% of all cases to begin with even if you ARE an experienced software developer, mind you!) and they might be employing an AI to try and wing the translation as best they can - but that's more fucking effort than *YOU* are putting into this.

The best thing *YOU* can do is point out the flaws in the translation, if you find them, so that this anon can get the AI to rework those passages. Kinda telling that the best you think that we can hope for is to find a translator who would want to go through and fix up slop, instead of finding a human translator(s) who'd be willing to work on a proper script from scratch instead.
