>>23926187Rain reminds me a lot of Yuzuka from TDA. They could almost be the same person. I'm sure there's a lot of Muv Luv influence in VNs that followed in its wake to some extent or another.
>>23926199I think Sky came before Chronicles and Rain's general demeanor reminds me more of Meiya but I see the similarity at least with the amnesia plot. Sky and MLA share a lot in general, too.
>>23926211To go into specifics, rich girl who's been crushing on the protagonist ends up wandering a post-apocalyptic wasteland with him where she murders someone to keep him safe, and when they're both back in civilization she subordinatezones herself, even down to using his rank - Chūi - and not the character's name as a way of masking her feelings.Have a low-effort meme.
>>23926238Damn, Muv-Luv's plagiarism knows no limits
>>23926238They had a relationship before the amnesia event, though. This kind of misses that the reason their relationship is like that is because Kou was emotionally distant and their relationship coming with a lot of unresolved baggage. It's not really because Rain didn't want to shake the boat she just didn't have a whole lot of options and then during the game, well, the amnesia makes it difficult to continue having the relationship they did. Even then, maybe I'm mistaken, I think at the beginning of the game she's very clearly insinuating sex and Kou gets flustered and is unaware.

>>23926334I'm actually an AI hater and do agree that you're right but I honestly believe our common sense perception of things like consciousness has been seriously negatively affected by the last 400-500 years of philosophy and that if real AI were to appear tomorrow we wouldn't be able to recognize it and say the same thing.I went on a deep dive about how it is possible that there's still a scientific debate on if crustaceans feel pain or not even though scientists have been testing that shit for hundreds of years and there's endless records of pain responses and it turns out the entire thing is just a throwaway idea from René Descartes that got way out of hand about how he believed lab animals like dogs are incapable of "suffering" even though they can feel "pain" because Descartes was deeply religious and thus believed animals have no soulsreminds me of the BETA actually
>>23926499I've seen religious people in the present day argue that animals can't suffer because even though they undeniably feel pain, they don't know that they feel pain because they have no sense of self so there is no action you can to do an animal to harm it that is not acceptable

>>23930335>Were they trying the Stroke Frontier thing of BETA invading Extra again?NTA, but didnt play SF. thats where the "newer BETA strains" appears , right?
>>23930335No, it's basically just FGO where mass produced clones of the cast are fighting the BETA for a PMC until parallel world shenanigans happens and they end up in a bad end timeline where adult Mikoto and Tama exist and the game just kinda dies before anything is resolved. Novel is supposed to go past this though.I just looked it up though and they did a big event story near the end about saving a variant MLA timeline that's in the middle of operation cherry blossom that has shit like Yuuya joining the Kashgar raid, because Superordinate-chan has giga rutherford fields and is going to win, capture everyone and learn of parallel worlds, starting a multiverse beta crusade. Which is basically exactly what you talked about and the exact same thing they were teasing with the Strike Frontier ending. That whole event kinda seems like they threw it together when they were told EoS will happen, it even ends with a CG of all the characters happy as the Protag talks about how their "fight will continue", cancelled manga ass ending.I never actually gave a fuck about this game but just skipping around these youtube videos, the production value is so much higher than Girls Garden because this game actually ran on the VN engine so they just do all sprite battle stuff MLA is known for.
>>23930439Kouki actually made those in one of those muv luv unofficial doujin magazines he used to release (yes unofficial shit by the official creators, don't ask I never understood) and then gave the designs to the SF team because they needed more BETA designs since the game had absolute dogshit enemy variety. >>23932491There was no anime. Only Total Eclipse 12 ep.
>>23932491not really, they did make a new original character and had her be voiced by one of Avex's vtubers/singers and the very first episode of the anime is anime original and shows her origin + sadogashima being invaded, but after that she just randomly shows up to steal screen time to talk about shit that doesn't matter at all because she didn't exist in the story they are adapting every now and then because they also decided to add her to the Valkyries. It really doesn't matter all that much but fans hyper-fixated on it because it was so incredibly fucking obvious what is happening. They put her on one of the Magazines covers and added her to Dimensions too.

Does any other Muv-Luv media outside of the main trilogy have romance? Excluding Kiminozo

>>23938322i dont think that any of the stories got romanceable heroines
>>23938322TDA is clealry a romance between Shorty McShortstuff and Axe-Wielding Lady (I forgot their names)
>>23938760Calling it a romance is a bit of a stretch when it suffers from the same issue that other Muv Luv entries like TE have, where the romance is undercooked and the protagonist is completely passive in the face of multiple woman who orbit him clearly wanting his dick, right up until the plot needs him to pick.
>>23938803>right up until the plot needs him to pick.and TDA got canceled so the plot doesn't even go that farfuck kouki and fuck age
>>23938814he picks yuzuka what are you on about
>>23932726>Why not just make interference?Okay, let's make the big assumption that BETA information sharing networks are all functionally analogous to esper reading and projection abilities. In theory, they would have the same vulnerability to being cancelled out by proximity to specially calibrated Bufwite particles. The resource cost of distributing them into the Earth's atmosphere with the density necessary to cover all the hives in Eurasia would be enormous, especially if Bufwite particles are a product of G-Element technology. Any smaller scale methods such as mobile ground or air-based particle generators would inevitably become priority targets on the battlefield because even an isolated hive would be able to identity such a strong tech signature.Given the limited resources available globally to pull off a project of this scale, you would have to somehow completely derail international support for both Alternative IV and V in the 1990s by continuing Alternative III in this new direction. And even if everything happened perfectly as planned, we would still have no guarantee that isolating the hives from sharing tactical data with each other would give humanity enough of an edge in hive infiltrations to win the decades-long war of attrition that would be the only logical endgame of such a plan.
>>23938883>The resource cost of distributing them into the Earth's atmosphere with the density necessary to cover all the hives in Eurasia would be enormous, especially if Bufwite particles are a product of G-Element technology.Yep, that's an "Agent Orange" Vietnam-tier of crazyness. But that implies mankind is gonna attack in one swoop all of them. There should be more effective ways...
Apparently Kouki has just accepted his fate now>[Regarding the Success of Mabugaru]>It was a good move to keep the barrier to entry low without trying to mimic the serious tone of Maburavu.>The original author suggested to the Mabugaru producer that they should use the Maburavu universe to create something completely different—preferably based on the EXTRA universe. (In reality, this suggestion came after the Maburavu collaboration had already been decided, so it couldn’t be stopped.)>The fact that *Mabugar*—a spin-off in which aNCHOR had absolutely no involvement—ended up selling the most seems to suggest a lot. (Placing too much emphasis on respecting the original work ultimately didn’t lead to a positive outcome.)>Being too conscious of making it “Muv-Luv-like” actually has a negative effect. Since it’s a derivative work, it’s better not to respect the original too much.>Neither the original author nor tororo were involved in the production of *Mabugaru* itself. aNCHOR only granted permission.>Works involving war, politics, or sci-fi don’t become hits. Even if some have sold well, the sales figures are nowhere near those of mainstream hits like *Demon Slayer*.>Muv-Luv’s strengths lie in “isekai reincarnation,” “time loops,” and “I’m so strong.” Because it combines all of these elements, the work never loses its appeal, no matter how many years pass.Same twitter user recapping the stream then gives his opinion on the recent story developments:>So, while a story hinting at a connection to the post-Unlimited world will get longtime fans excited, the key question is how new players will react to the serious storylines of Unlimited and Alter. I think it’s best not to force them in that direction.
>>23939726>>>The fact that *Mabugar*—a spin-off in which aNCHOR had absolutely no involvement—ended up selling the most seems to suggest a lot. Hmm, now I wonder - I was working on my novel that's inspired by ML but I'm curious if there's another anime/manga/movie where child soldiers are sent over to the battlefield but it's treated like they're just going out for sports. All the kids being happy being used as weapons while the parents are all like "don't be scared! You can do it! You'll bring great honor if you die anyways!". I'm sure it's been done before but nothing pops in my mind.
>>23940176Not the parents, but Come and See at least gets vaguely close to that dreamlike state of warfare in the first half, from my recollection

>>23938371>Kimi ita>OwarinakiThanks, you mean these I assume?https://vndb.org/v443https://vndb.org/v1743They're both untranslated. Seems like they've got almost nothing to do with ML...I'm a bit surprised that nobody else has seemingly replicated the formula of "love story + alien invasion + mechs" in other ML media. I confess I've only read the ML trilogy and Kiminozo myself, but everything else I look at - that has the name ML attached to it - doesn't inspire the same enthusiasm because it's lacking in the "luv" part of the equation.
>>23939726>The fact that *Mabugar*—a spin-off in which aNCHOR had absolutely no involvement—ended up selling the most seems to suggest a lot.It does suggest a lot, but not what Kouki is implying. Mabugaru's success has nothing to do with being distant from the brand and everything to do with the fact it has a development team that actually finishes projects. The real sales challenge of Unlimited/Alternative type stories is that Kouki hasn't finished any of his projects in almost thirteen years. Comparing the sales of literally anything to Demon Slayer and One Piece on stream is just an excuse for his own laziness and poor management skills.Mabugaru is just a halfway decent gacha made by people who (according to Kouki) love Unlimited/Alternative and are actively in the process of dragging the game kicking and screaming back towards the setting of the original VNs through crossover events and story updates. The fact that it's selling well domestically even before it's worldwide release on steam is proof that there is sustainable demand but aNCHOR just hasn't been meeting it for a very long time.
>>23942011>side character stories>most of them are just kinetic novels.yep. no wonder why it went down since post-Alternative
>>23942043>pic>Shower-Class BETA>a new strain that is lethal to otakus who never take a bath
>>23942011Kimi ita is Kiminozo before Kiminozo pretty much, the remake adds a lot of Muv Luv references because it was made after MLAOwarinaki is set in a backwater Japanese town in the unlimited/alternative timeline right before things turn really shit for Japan and the VN is about the looming dread that never gets directly namedropped + fucking a girl of your choice. You're correct that neither of them are actually stories about blasting aliens to shit, I think after the trilogy they never had enough budget again to do the stuff you want and half-assed everything
>>23942043It's worth noting that Girl Garden sales have actually started to decrease on both Android and DMMBecause the game is so new it's impossible to tell if that has anything to do with story direction, and they're nowhere near financial trouble, but it is interest that both are happening at the same time.I suspect that what is happening is that the new audience the game managed to attract isn't overly attached to it at all because they just view it as a random DMM game, so as DMM keeps releasing and shilling new and shinier games they'll keep jumping off.
>>23942011>>23942110To add-on to what's been said, Owarinaki would've made for a better anime to introduce people to the Muv Luv Universe with only a few tweaks. It's basically Extra if as the story unfolds you learn it's actually Unlimited. The balance between Extra style comedy and the ticking clock of everyone being evacuated plus some really nice bits in different routes that if you know, really hits home. In Karen's route, her brother Takashi enlists the moment he knows his sister's got someone looking out for her. In Kanon's route, our protagonist himself is served a draft notice and his budding relationship is cast into doubt as he's about to be shipped off to die. That Owarinaki's been overlooked for so long is a real shame.

Kouki, i know you dont like making someone to be "THE STRONGEST EVER" but i dont give a shit and will continue to believe Takeru's either the equivalent to Project Wingman's protagonist or Chirico Cuvie.
>>23946581That's the one that gets me the most. Alternative is not a power fantasy. Takeru gets beaten down when he lets the power fantasy get to his head, and even his most epic moments don't singlehandedly change the course of battle. Later entries like Total Eclipse and The Day After lean more into the power fantasy. Yuuya Bridges gets all the girls while being a raging asshole, and Hibiki survives shit that would've killed Takeru had he tried any of that in Alternative. Feels like Kouki's projecting when he thinks that the power fantasy is a key draw of Alternative.
>>23946652'festival-like-title'? Is he dissing TDA again? What did Luxin do to have Kouki on his ass?
>>23946656He's just kind of a pisser in general, ain't he?
>>23946652(me)>Has escaped from death in ways you couldnt fucking believewhatever the fuck happened in TDA, possibly sorties between Iceberg and getting comissioned (the IJA was still getting depleted from getting fucked by sadogashima, so it isnt impossible UN troops had to sortie), several other loop stuff and what happens in Alternative (because surviving getting chased by a pissed off Sagiri, fighting grappler class with training weapons, where originally he only fell because meiya gave him sedatives, Sadogashima and after)>Was chosen for an elite, often times acting extralegally, unit with unknown requirements (to everyone but yuuko) and high casualty rates>dated a girlfriend who had to be put in a tube time to time so she could survive>at the end of it all he disappears from history (though it failed with chirico)>In TDA the G bombs are dropped onto Sadogashima, despite takeru's best efforts (getting betrayed pretty much, especially if it played a part in getting the rest of 207A, or whoever he was flying with at the time, killed) and it ends up with him just keeping going however he can It'd be perfect if he had been a part of fuji for the whole "red shoulder" thing.I fucking love Votoms. shitty art made by (me)
>>23946656お祭りタイトル is a work that prioritizes fanservice over lore or plot like Seed Freedom or SRW
>>23946770>he only fell because meiya gave him sedativesNo? I don't think Meiya even had authorization to do that?
>>23947118he is probably mixing the XM3 incident with the Yokohama base defense.Meiya tells him after he woke up, if i remember correctly...
>>23946653in a TL;DR: Takeru get his ass on the ground every time he tries something out of ordinary. Except the core of XM3, or holding an entire horde of BETA in Sadogashima>Yuuya Bridges gets all the girls while being a raging assholegood girls like bad boys, isnt it?
>>23946652On one hand I completely understand where he's coming fromOn the other hand UOOOOOOH LIEUTENANT SHIROGANE IS SO COOOL~
>>23947118https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIowU7T8npQ&list=PLtX30QU57Uhm_Bx6FssN3wtS3YGC2UHFp&index=17At 3:16:12, Meiya goes and gives him sedatives, you can even hear the sound and Takeru confirming the injection. Its just that this apparently gets retconned in the manga and other media.I personally think the conflic with Meiya possibly thinking herself guilty of Shirogane's PTSD and Marimo's fate makes it more intense then just him getting put on his ass by the BETA.
>>23947023Thing is TDA has more lore and plot than Alternative, at least when it comes to the actual politics.
>>23947251Takeru already had an injection and he got hit and was already unstable before he got the second one. It doesn't follow at all that he fell just because he got injected again
>>23947252... insofar as Takeru and Hibiki having different responsibilities, so that Hibiki's experiences are more upfront for the reader, or in actual material?
>>23947263In the sense that Hibiki's very much involved front and centre in the political maneuvering of his VN, while Takeru isn't. Takeru's story is not about the world specifically, it's about him navigating the world. While Hibiki's having high level bilateral meetings with American officers early in his story, and it only grows from there. Takeru's not plotting with the Shogun like Hibiki does.
>>23947262I dont deny that, but it also depends on how fast those sedatives act (I mean, they have to act really fast right? a single moment of panic can really fuck things up, as you see with a UN f-15J IIRC in the yokohama base defense), since its not like its impossible to get hit and keep going, even if you arent piloting a tank like the F-4J (i think a Schwarzesmarken character survived getting ragdolled by a fort? though they were elite). Meiya also jumped nearly right behind him, which could have potentially hindered his escape, but is that likely? Nervous and injected with hypnosis or not, she's still a surface pilot. Overall I always though it was meant to be somewhat ambiguous, even if it ultimately ends up with meiya making some mistakes when it came to Takeru's aftercare and the entirety of unforgiven.
>>23947266 #I don't think it mattered at all, his initial treatment left him significantly impaired and after the second injection he's still raving to himself before getting hit again. Meiya is also fairly proactive through this scene, her intent is very much informed by a general concern for Takeru, she didn't follow-up in the was she did just out of what she may or may not regret. In TM the girls get extra injections and those are nearly instant but what it was used for and their prior exposure is completely different than Takeru's.>i think a Schwarzesmarken character survived getting ragdolled by a fort? though they were eliteIrisdina uses her shield's ERA to deflect a stinger and one of three (Iris, Theo, Katia) is disabled in that same fight somehow
>>23947023>>23947252What you need to understand about Kouki that he has a very hyper specific form of autism that is hard to even grasp. The best example for this that I've brought up here a bunch of times is when I watched him casually say that Strike Frontier, despite being an official muv luv title âge worked on, doesn't take place inside of "Kouki's Muv Luv Multiverse" because he couldn't be bothered supervising it.Think about how fucking insane that really is.Could you imagine Kinoko Nasu saying shit like this? That man has been using parallel worlds as excuses for the tiniest continuity errors for a thousand years. But to Kouki a game his company was operating for 2 years doesn't even have a place on the quantum plane. Hell, he doesn't even like when people say "multiverse" or "parallel world" and prefers people use his own lingo because "It's technically different."He must have said the SF stuff well over 6 years ago by now, but he still thinks exactly the same way. We had him edit Dimensions out of an official ML timeline overview ML social media posted because "well it's shut down now so I thought it didn't belong." He even wrote a fucking event for that game. Now he's pretty much saying TDA is like one of the fun fan discs you aren't supposed to take seriously to him (Kouki fucked off the protect after supervising episode 0 if I remember correctly). This is despite him having spent several years writing multiple drafts of a direct sequel to the same story because fans wouldn't stop asking for it to be made. I always thought the people around here were taking his podcast episode with Luxin a bit too negatively since I viewed a lot of it was joking around between old buddies, but maybe I was actually just biased. Also didn't Takeru solo 20 fucking fort class in MLA, what is he even talking about?
>>23947278>He must have said the SF stuff well over 6 years ago by now, but he still thinks exactly the same way. He even wrote a fucking event for that game. What's kind of funny is he's now on the receiving end of that, when he posted his timeline with Kaseki no Uta in it, only for the new owners to edit KnU out when they reposted it. I'm sure he must bee seething inside around that.
>>23947274Oh no, im not blaming meiya for what she did during the battle, i mean, going directly into danger despite being unarmed and in your first battle to save your comrade is pretty damn brave, its just it might have played a part in him getting shot down. Ultimately, it ends up with what happens in the story, but I like to imagine that Takeru could have pulled it off and avoided unforgiven.Though it kind of proves yuuko's point a bit of yokohama being too lax (and somewhat incompetent), doesnt it? what base would let essentially unarmed (when it comes to the BETA) personnel wander around wide open places when there should be mechanized infantry checking for smaller strains (im fairly certain the highly armored guards can kill tank classes on their own, its just nice having TSF doing the rounds too). The DS-3 really is the best shield in muv luv, isnt it? Sharpened carbon to impale and use as a blade, ERA to deflect and blow up BETA, and im pretty damn sure its just outright tough enough to tank grapper class without the explosives. You can see typhoons using it, but its somewhat saddening that there's no depiction of east german fulcrums using it, though i guess that'd be counterproductive to their "light TSF" design.
>>23947283Sorry, I have to protect my queen against slander. I think it was higher level. Yuuko I think wanted to show the state that they need to take her more seriously lest they lose Alt IV as a ploy to get more resources, all their grievances with the UN and Yuuko aside. I think this was also allegedly used to replace Allegiance members in the faculty but I don't remember if that was part of the original or something after the fact like with Silvio. Yuuko I think alludes to it after being informed of the shuttle and might say something to Takeru after the purge but I'd honestly prefer that it wasn't mentioned at all. Not a big fan of their inclusion in the setting
>>23947282Its even more fucked up because Dimensions has been getting re-published as a heavily rewritten official web novel this whole year and the writer has been with them since 2010.Why is this guy just shitting on everyone that ever worked with him
>>23947290Correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure the Silvio thing happens a good bit before takeru's arrival, so Allegiance is less (though probably not erased) a factor then. TE essentially confirms the organization's involvement in the HSST stuff, its just that takeru ends up cucking it away from them due to future information. Arming the directional protein stuff must take time, and when you're expecting to literally turn the place to dust, you're not going to risk and waste valuable resources in getting more sleeper cells in. They couldnt have expected a Trainee to shoot down a reentry shuttle armed with explosives going at mach-fuck-you with a experimental (and abandoned) weapon in unlimited either. As for the "level" of the yokohama incident, yuuko's in cahoots with Radhabinod, isnt she? While he probably wasnt too happy about it, if she didnt consider lower level stuff, he (and possibly other people involved in it) must've.
>>23947295Oh, and mentioning TE makes the Yokohama incident even more outrageous. While japan's meant to be a extremely isolated place in muv luv lore, there's no excuse for the UN not to have active patrol or standby guards during the XM3 trials, considering there's the precedent of periods during large scale exercises being incredibly vulnerable (the Yukon base incident during blue flag, essentially an international large scale competition). Also, as im pretty sure Yuuko herself says, Japan's a frontline nation. Yokohama should NOT be acting like a rear line base, even if the IJA would throw themselves to the last man instead of letting the BETA get close to the final defense line and threaten the imperial capital. Seriously, if things were more "normal" Yokohama should have a closer vibe to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
>>23947300>Front line>Rear lineIs there a map for the Beta invasion like Code pizza butt had for everything?
>>23947328Not much, but i found these.
>>23946612Reminder that ixtl or whoever owned the IP at the time threw the baby out with the bathwater and all the good content from SF is lost forever. (inb4 nothing of value was lost)
>>23947423Could you explain what is lost and why it's lost forever?
>>23947295Yes, the Silvio thing happens before, just using it as an example.
>>23947492Also, it might not have been politically possible to support a UN force.
>>23946572>>23946612Beatrix in Girl's Garden when?
>>23947587A tad late, but yeah IIRC japan wasnt too willing to let the UN deploy except on extraordinary circumstances. Maybe i read the whole "UN can deploy if final defense line is breached" from a fanwork? Also, i wonder how UN tsf procurement works, i always imagined it as either the host country donating them and the UN covering maintenance costs with their own budgets (the most likely, i think) or the UN outright buying the TSF and also covering maintenance (i imagine this is the case with orbital divers). So the Host countries have the advantage of technically having a backup force that doesnt drain money and source of income (i mean, the UN's probably buying the parts for maintenance) for the price of UN (sometimes US) presumably having a say in politics, or something.
Okay now I'm bothered. Which one of us is right, Anon-kun?I leave the fate of my internet credibility in the hands of you Muv-nerds far greater than I.

>>23947745UN forces mostly consist of governments in exile with special or temporary attachments making up very little. Special attachments are like the Valkyries, who are de jure part of the UN command structure under the UNSC but obviously there's a lot of baggage and special policies from the host country because of Alt IV). More temporary assignments are of course temporary and these units fly their own colors. They also have the divers and such. Not really aure how that works, I think maybe at some point a general coalition for anything happening in space was agreed upon pre-Lunar War so a lot of that is theirs.
