There is no way it will be as good. Just think of the life experiences of the people producing it back in the day. There was a whole different class of people with the whole different bevy of experiences that influenced how creative they were in their work.

Plus many of them were a lot younger
It will never be the same
The 00s was the last time we would get good reboots

I'm not saying new is as good. I'm saying new is good too.

>dnt (s4) stops at episode 48 with kesserling's death and phezzan being occupied
>check the OVAs
>same events happen at episode 44
>s5 announced in 2023 but still nothing yet
mfw it's finally completed in 2035

If it's not better what's the point?
>>
>>23929915
The point is that it can reach audiences that would never watch the old ova. There are plenty of things that people could appreciate in new over old.
>>
>>23929912
Breh, wtf is that fucking THING?!?!?
>>
>>23929917
If people don't want to watch the OVA they can either watch something else or go to hell.
>>
What LOGH really needed was a live action series like Deep Space Nine or Babylon 5, but this isn't the 90's anymore.
>>23929915
DNT is somewhat closer to the books events wise if I remember right. The OVA shifts some characters and events around, nothing major aside from having Dusty show up much earlier than he does in the books. The first couple episodes of DNT are like 1:1 with the books version of events, even down to dialogue.

DNT makes some changes as well, like revealing Frederica's dad as the leader of the coup right off (novels and OVA don't reveal that until later, so the audience finds out when Yang and Frederica do). It also added some really stupid OC, like Frederica bodying a Rosenritter without breaking a sweat.
It was more accurate about Westerland, and in not having Oberstein try to defend Reinhard from Ansbach, but it also takes more liberties later on. Fortress vs Fortress was very different from the novels when compared to the OVAs, for example, as was Schönkopf vs Reuenthal.
Every adaptation does things a little differently. DNT is just more accessible for being newer and for catering to an audience that wasn't already familiar with the books.

>>23930167
Fucking trash. Moving this to the bridge was such a dumb, unnecessary change.
>>
i kind of like the cg ship shit better honestly for pure exterior shots on occasion, the battle fleet beam spam and sense of scale is more convincing than the OVA just slapping bunch of pure white dots and solid grey lines across the screen. but the hand-animated ship destruction sequences are far meatier in the OVA, so it's a tough one. on-foot action scenes in the original weren't too amazing either save for real bangers like when Tomonori Kogawa animated that kick ass sequence of the Rosenritter taking Iserlohn, while the new action scenes are servicable at best, so there's just a bunch of little bits and pieces i like from both.

>in not having Oberstein try to defend Reinhard from Ansbach
that was OVA original? It's a really good addition.
>>
>>23930618
Yeah. In the novels, only Kircheis reacted.
Personally I prefer the way the novels handled it. Having him jump in to defend Reinhard so early makes his loyalties to him less open to being questioned, and takes away from his later sacrifice a bit. I prefer Oberstein to be more on the shady side, especially early on.

I think DNT is pretty intolerable since it's actually farther away from the novels than the OVA is.
The ova promotes some material from the gaiden. The ova chronologizes events retold across several novels from several different points of view. The ova makes "original" content trying to drive at the soul of what the novels are, usually it isn't really original at all it's a composite gloss of events.

The worst part of the ova is that it's too faithful. The producer who wrote nearly the entire thing was a massive fan who wanted everything in it. The reality is when you have limited runtime and production capacity you have to be more choosy. I said earlier the ova tends to gloss events as composites, this is something they got much better at later on in the ova's run. In season 1 I think there's events and character beats thrown in the kitchen sink so haphazardly their effect is essentially lost. Even in S2 there's kind of a parade of events and characters coming and going that tend to be blurred together by how they wrote the adaptation. But the ova does find its footing and basically gets better and better until the very end. By the second movie and S3 it's really fucking good.

Contrast that with DNT which leaves entire swaths of material on the cutting room floor. I don't think that's a sin, and I think you can make a good adaptation by framing only a few key events/characters of the original work so that it portrays the essence of the whole wider thing. The problem is DNT not only limits the scope of what it's adapting what it chooses to focus on is fucked up even when it's accurate perse, or else it's even more original than the ova was minus the one big Reinhard change, and it ruins it.
Just like I think you can take a few pieces of a work and make something that accurately gives the impression of the original, you can much more easily take pieces and rearrange them in such a way that they don't resemble the totality of the work at all.
That's DNT.

For the most part I like the Imperial ships but I really dislike the FPA ships. Them being more or less the same but scaled up or down fit better in my head.
>>
>>23940116
That's because despite his status as the main character of the series and all the advantages he has as a ruler, Reinhard still can't ever beat Yang despite Yang having worse cards in his hand.
>>
>>23940221
This is a solid rundown. DNT is trying to be a modern LoGH for a new audience unfamiliar with the novels, but it does this in such a strange way and the things it chooses to focus on are just so bizarre to me.
Like, they put in a lot of effort on original content highlighting Oberstein's dog, but they gloss over Reuenthal's backstory by comparison and also present him in a way that makes him come off as a braggart (which wasn't the case in the novels or OVA).
It's such a weird choice to make and I can't even think of a justification behind it.
