>>23930202>Fuck kitazume once again for fucking up his artstyleI think this is the sin. When I first saw his older traditional art and non-official but gundam art I loved it, then he started get into digital colouring with deviantart level of understanding how it works and not only never improved, his actual art and design devolved. It's fucking baffling.
Define is the version where they drew Fa getting molested by Titans in the beginning for absolutely no reason, right?
>>23930292You hit the nail on the head. How do you go from what you posted to this? it's absolutely disgusting. I love his older art, hell, I OWN some of his older zeta art and some shikishis. I don't understand how the fuck he devolved like that. Don't get me wrong YAS did as well but his lines just got simpler as he got older and probably his eyesite as well. his coloring remained fine. but kitazume had a complete change to his own detriment. fuck him.
>>23930294I thought it was implied rape or something really weird like that

>>23930312It seemed like they were about to rape her before Jerid crashed the Mk. II into the building, she still had panties but nothing else and said they made her strip, took away her clothes, and were examining her so they probably planned on doing it but were prevented by the lucky timing of Jerid fucking up. It's a shit thing to add as another thing to show the Titans as bad, Zeta does enough as is to show why the Titans are bad without throwing in them raping teenage girls.
>>23931721Isn't Define also the one where they take the most cartoonishly evil man in early U.C. Bask Om and try to explain his actions as PTSD?
>>23930971Why replace the Hyaku Shiki with an OC Donut Steel machine instead of the Delta?
>>23932152like all OC donut steel insert characters\designs, all they care about is their OC insert succeeding, it matters not a fuck that something else might also workoriginally during zeta we're shown that Amuro has PTSD about lalah and not having piloted in 7 years so he's kinda rusty and not performing at peak but he still has moments where he can prove he has the experience to do things that kamille can't. in zeta define amuro gets rewritten as a whiner who can't adapt to piloting anything that doesn't give him the same "special" feeling that the RX-78 did, so coincidentally this OC donut steel works perfectly for amuro and he gets a customized version of the zero shiki along with char
>>23932242What a weird decision when it seemed incredibly deliberate in Zeta to give Amuro a suit that was closer to a Gelgoog than a Gundam.
This is just brutal mogging.

>>23932288I'm gonna be sick...
I'm just back to say DEFINE IS SHIT. Why the fuck does kamille look nothing like kamille. Why the fuck does char have a cleft chin.I'm more pissed because in 1985 (it's in the archives) I posted it. I posted an interview from kitazume where he praised yasuhiko's designs and said he studied the designs to keep them similar but incorporating his own style. God, fuck kitazume. Fucking shit author
>>23930971more specifically Marasai is reworked as basically just cheaper Rick Dias, head cockpit and all>>23932152as I understand it's because someone on the team didn't really like Hyaku Shiki and thought it doesn't do a good job of reflecting the MK-II influence in it so they went with a completely different approach where it's its own thing.Which isn't a bad thing really, what's the darn point of making the manga of it's exactly the same?
>>23932407Being absolute shit is a pretty different approach to Zeta, so I'll give you that. Glad the manga is treading new ground.
>>23930971>>Gundam MkII is introduced as an MS noted for powerful thrust but sorta weak turning ability, later receives high mobility upgrade with improved shoulder verniersis the Super Gundam still there?
>>23932412oh don't be glib
>>23932501The latest volume of the manga has adapted up to the Dakar arc where Char makes a televised speech against the Titans, but the G-Defenser hasn't shown up at all, even though at this point in the TV series it's been around for 10 episodes or so already.
>>23932930That doesn't necessarily mean much given the changed flow of the story. IIxII takes the Mk-II update slot and arguably does a better job since the anime only combined them into Super Gundam like 3 times in total. But G-Defenser could still easily show up for Katz's plot. It'd make sense, no other machine is just outright missing in Define. Hyaku Shiki got a replacement in the same role.
>>23930945>some panels are pretty much just the writer's barely disguised fetish of the dayBut it's okay when Tomino does it.
>>23934019that's because Tomino Is the one who created his characters, not doing a spin off with shittier art than when he literally worked on the production. Kitazume couldn't make it as his own animator with his studio failing so he had to suck it up and pay off his debt by rehashing the best work he worked on.
>>23934034But it's okay when Hasegawa does it.
>>23934019I'm sorry, was there actually anything negative in >>23934019 that was dismissive, disappointed, or disgusted by the fetishes?ITHINKNOT
>>23934037Because Hasegawa is a good writer. Too good for Gundam.
>>23934058Let's be real, Hasegawa lucked out by having Katoki design Pirate Gundams for his manga and this entire time survives off that novelty alone. No one would be clamoring for his shitty anencephalic art and fanfiction-tier writing otherwise.
Is this manga finished? Last thing I remember was AEUG attacking the Titans Kilominjaro base in Africa. And that's only about 40% of the way through Zeta's whole story.
>>23934357I would, thank you very much
>>23934357yeah but when hasegawa draws them in the comic they look like ass compared to the katoki lineart>>23934374it's up to 22 volumes and they've just reached the Dakar speech story arc, at this rate it feels like it'll hit 35 volumes easily by the end
I was very disappointed by this manga.1. The scale of the conflict is so small and tiny. The Titans only seem to have a few of space ships. The Titans feel like a tiny police unit in the massive Federation.2. Why does the Titans have a limited budget? Why is Bask getting upset with Anaheim over the cost of Marasai's and bargaining with AE about price? 3. Why is Bask handling the loadout of every pilots Mobile Suit and telling them that Marasai's are precious and not to damage them? 4. Why does the AEUG have insane plot armor? It's so much worse than the anime. Whenever the AEUG show up, the IQ of any nearby Titans officer drops by 50 points. It becomes like Scooby Doo with how dumb the Titans become. 5. Why are the Titans so bad at their jobs in this manga? Like comically bad. They are supposed to be elites!6. The attack on Kiliminjaro is SO badly written. The AEUG somehow sent spies into the base. And these spies hack the computers and lock all the base doors. So the Titans can't move and can't launch any mobile suits. No manual override apparently. I guess everyone dies if a big fire breaks out!Also.....locked Doors? Really? That's what the writer is going with? Was this really worth rewriting the whole Zeta story just for this? I expected them to make things more epic with the manga! Instead the writers are doing the opposite.
>>23934357But it's Hasegawa that makes them look good, there's a reason Crossbone is acclaimed as the best looking mecha manga.
>>23934399I think the manga is bad but I think your takes are even worse.
>>23934399nigga change up your posting habits, complaining about zeta define is usually foolproof but it gets fucking boring seeing double-spaced numbered posts after a while
>>23934406My takes are perfectly valid. The fact you can't come up with a rebuttal to any of them is proof of that. >>23934408>Reading is hard. Don't waste our time you knuckle-dragger.
>>23934411complaining is an art like any other and you fucking need to try new ideas if you want to engage people on the topic rather than get complaints
>>23934416>complaining is an art like any otherDisconnect from the internet for 24 hours. Go outside.
>>23934357Hasegawa makes good comics, which is a skill unrelated to the quality of somebody's artwork.
>>23934419already am, posting from a phone while sitting at a bus benchman you just need to know it's not interesting to see numbered lists of complaints, it's not very interesting and you're not really bringing much to discuss, it's like reading a shopping list of shit you hate
>>23934399I read it a while ago but I dropped it when they introduced Mary Shelly or whatever her name was, the gymnast / pilot instructorIt was just weird watching Bask Om fawn over herGenuinely the worst Gundam fanfiction I've read, and I enjoy all the other fanfiction manga they push out, but ZGD is god awful
>>23930202>>23930292i havent read define yet but i thought the art was the one redeeming quality of cda, mainly that all the girls are cute and look consistently appealing. i dont think its much of a downgrade aside from losing its original 80s charm.
>>23934357hasegawa is a good mangaka, his panel flow is great and his loose and simple artstyle lends itself well to depict the kinetic action scenes. it also avoids the visual noise problem that modern mecha manga especially suffer from and makes all the figures easily readable, so really i think his success with crossbone is justified.
CDA is maybe the worst thing I have ever read in my entire life, and I read all of it. Making it so Char and Haman never actually had a relationship is absolutely an insane thing to do. It's like he cannot write these awful people to be awful people to save his life, Char has to be an anti-hero and Haman has to be a victim of circumstance when in reality they are both sociopathic assholes.
>>23934399My issue with the Titans base attack is that the AEUG does orbital bombardment and drops bombs from low earth orbit. This is completely disregards Gundam lore. Don't you think that if orbital bombardment was possible, then Zeon would have abused the hell out of it during the one year war? They would have dropped a ton of ordinance on Jaburo and every Earth Federation base.
>>23930971Why the fuck does it have a knockoff VF transformation? It transforms like a Valkyrie, right down to the nosecone being the fucking crotch. It makes the shield completely fucking superfluous. This is some serious bullshit...
>>23934443>havent read defineYou wouldn't understand then
>>23934019Tomino made this shit pile, so it’s ok when he plays in it.I think define is okay, all of Tomino’s works aren’t that great anyway he has like 2-3 good ones and typically has bs filler segments which could be cut. There is a reason Gundam was being driven into the dirt before G saved its ass
>>23934511Define writer forgot about Minovsky Particles.
>>23934511Bunker busters bombs from orbit does seem very "Un-Gundam" like. The anime was created in the 1970s and those types of weapons didn't exist back then. It was only created in the 2000s when the USA needed to strike targets hiding deep inside fortified mountains. So the whole thing feels anochronistic. It doesn't belong. Like if they added drone swarms to the 1970s anime and we see Amuro having to shoot down hundreds of drone swarms attacking White Base.
>>23935176>The anime was created in the 1970s and those types of weapons didn't exist back thenare you talking about orbital bombing or just any bunker buster?
>>23935196Was NASA or the Soviet Union bombing other countries from orbit in the 1970s?
>>23934452>Making it so Char and Haman never actually had a relationship is absolutely an insane thing to do.Tomino said Haman died a virgin, it's very much in line with his writing for her to be salty because Char refused to fuck her.>Haman has to be a victim of circumstance She got Char's pregnant partner killed, she's no angel in CDA.
>>23935210what is your thoughts on particle beams being in Gundam which also didn't exist back then?
>>23935218Lasers existed back then. Tomino based it on that.
>>23935253yeah but particle beams are a different class, it'd be like saying 40k bolters are a real life thing because we already have RPGs
>>23935214If he actually said this I'm glad, because I posted on /a/ semi-recently about being pissed off (disproportionately probably but the feelings are real) that I saw someone in the Charmuro fandom headcanoning Char died a virgin. Not glad because of what this means about Haman, but just because it's nice to know this is a thing Tomino said apparently, because the lack of a similar quote about Char further confirms my position/the reality that Char is a canon sexhaver. And it'd be real easy for him to have said at any point in the last couple decades like "Char is such a loser that he's never known the touch of a woman, anyone who still likes this character needs to grow up" if he actually believed this + wanted to piss off Gundam/Char fans, since I think he's spoken negatively of both in the pastalso he said Char and Lalah were having a sexual relationship in 0079, and the actors voiced them knowing thisI don't even ship or like Charmuro but that virgin headcanon just got deep under my skin
>>23935608Americans are so fucking weird.
>>23935608>CharmuroHe's not the top
>>23936167honestly yeah and that's kinda why I'm not into it, the whole dynamic is just Amuro feeding Char Ls if it's portrayed anywhere close to canon, with no real variation about who has more power in the relationship at any given timeBut that's the name for it that I see most in English so it's what I went with
>>23935176>>23935196>>23935210the fact that colony drops are used implies a lack of "conventional" orbital bombardment capability
>>23936301I mostly figured that Minovsky Particles messed with long range orbital targeting. Tomino specifically said in interviews his goal with Minovsky particles was to force all battles into close range fights similar to World War 2 battles. He didn't want long range battles that ruin his story.Zeon couldn't do pinpoint bombardment because of the particles. Nukes were out of the question due to radiation contaminating the environment. So they used a massive colony. But even with such a huge colony they still missed! Lmao. But later writers and fans got the wrong idea. All they saw was "ooohhh big colony go drop on earf!" and repeated the same trick 4 more times.
>>23939689Tomino didn't really think about it that hard either. According to his original setting notes and novels, Zeon dropped 40 colonies onto major popular centers purely as a terror tactic, with the first one explicitly aimed at New York. It was also Luna II that Zeon threatened to drop onto Jaburo if the Feds didn't surrender. It was the fan-made Gundam Century in 1981 that streamlined all of that into a much more compelling singular colony drop operation, and was only canonized 10 years later in Gundam 0083. If anything, Tomino is the one guilty of "ooohhh big colony go drop on earf!" when he repeats the same thing over and over in Z, ZZ and CCA.
It's kind of impressive how full retard the US corpos are regarding Gundam merch and licensing. This is a guaranteed flop in a long line of Zeta shit that flops in the US. Burgerworld just does not care about Newtype shit for whatever reason and when stuff that is widely criticized gets licensed and fails they then wonder why it failed. These people need marketing analysts real bad.
>>23939716>According to his original setting notes and novelsI don't understand why you rank this higher than Tomino's interviews and his own words. The old notes are basically scribbles and ideas. Not fully fleshed out and clearly were changed before the anime aired. And the novels are their own separate timeline. The main focus should be that Minovsky Particles force ships into close combat. Long range combat is not really possible.
>>23934399>6. The attack on Kiliminjaro is SO badly written. The AEUG somehow sent spies into the base. And these spies hack the computers and lock all the base doors. So the Titans can't move and can't launch any mobile suits. No manual override apparently. I guess everyone dies if a big fire breaks out!>Also.....locked Doors? Really? That's what the writer is going with?Kitazume does that in CDA too, it's ZZ Shangri La level comical.
>>23939716>According to his original setting notes and novels, Zeon dropped 40 colonies onto major popular centers purely as a terror tactic, with the first one explicitly aimed at New Yorkcool, none of that is in the show.
>>23939825>Kitazume does that in CDA too, it's ZZ Shangri La level comical. It seems like he wants to purposely reduce the scale of battles. The anime Battle of Kiliminjaro was massive slugfest. Both side throwing everything they had at each other and it devolved into a brutal bloody ground battle. Both sides taking massive losses. The AEUG eventually won but they paid a heavy price. The manga is the opposite. It's like a weird cartoon. The Titans can't open their doors. Some lights get turned off. Everyone in bumping into each other. It's such a bizarre choice to do the total opposite of the anime.
>>23939716No, you're combining two different things. 40 colonies was from the setting notes, the colony drop on New York was from the novel only, and it wasn't intentionally targeting there, it just fell there. Idk where people get that GIhren threatened to drop Luna II when they never fucking had it. He threatened to drop MORE COLONIES, not the asteroid. Also, I love how you claim that Gundam Century was fan-made when it was the fucking staff of the original series.
>>23940262Notes for the anime at least say the city shown in that sequence was meant to look "New York-like".
>>23940263Which doesn't really mean much, it's just a note. The very same people that made the show decided to place it in Sydney.
>>23934357Only problem is Katoki didn't entirely design them, Hasegawa did. Hasegawa is responsible for the initial concept designs and Katoki produced rough design sketches that Hasegawa then tweaked to complete them. Katoki only actually did the Batalla and Divinidad. >>23934404It's really not. Hasegawa can tell a story in images (barely), but it's far from having the best mecha.>>23934422He's literally great at everything aside from Gundam. All of his entries suck donkey cock. Nowadays he can't do shit for them without dumping literally everything on his fucking assistant. It's so jarring seeing different artwork styles, one clearly his and another clearly better artist handling the cleanup. >>23934447Nice AI response.
>>23940268Holy shit you suck just be quiet already
>>23940263It was the storyboards and recording script that describe the location as "somewhere resembling New York." That's not the same. The same script also likes to say nukes which the fandom loves to contest too, so...
>>23940271The sooner you admit that Hasegawa sucks and Crossbone deserves to finally fucking die, the sooner we can get back to a proper discussion.
>>23940273Go away troll kid
>>23940262>it wasn't intentionally targeting there, it just fell thereLiterally from the novels, tourist-kun:>[B]ecause they saw war primarily as a psychological process, their plan was to crash colonies into Earth's major cities until the arrogant ruling Federation elites trembled in fear. And to a certain extent they achieved their initial objective.>Idk where people get that GIhren threatened to drop Luna II when they never fucking had it. Again, from the novels, tourist-kun:>Zeon's Supreme Commander, Gihren Zabi, then issued an ultimatum to the Earth Federation government, threatening to crash Luna II into their headquarters at Jaburo unless they surrendered unconditionally.>Also, I love how you claim that Gundam Century was fan-made when it was the fucking staff of the original series. That alone doesn't make it official, tourist-kun. There were shared staff but they straight up say it was made under the capacity of being a fan-work. Some have even expressed surprise that it was officially adopted by Sunrise:>[T]he fact that [GUNDAM CENTURY] became an "official" record of Gundam was something that even Sunrise, who gave permission, found a bit perplexing at the time.>Perhaps because of that, Kenichi Matsuzaki, who was involved with that project and also wrote scripts for the main series, has said on numerous occasions, "That was just grown-ups playing around, after all" (laughs).
>>23940353>Some have even expressed surprise that it was officially adopted by Sunrise: >[T]he fact that [GUNDAM CENTURY] became an "official" record of Gundam was something that even Sunrise, who gave permission, found a bit perplexing at the time. Because Sunrise wanted to make money. They saw potential in releasing it as a databook for profit. Sunrise and Bandai literally print tons of databooks regardless of whether the information makes sense. They also don't care if there is conflicting information between books.
I'm glad this is still up because fuck kitazume. I still have no idea why they would do define over CDA.
>>23940353You ignore the entire first part that talks about them carrying it out which is just hitting then brakes and hoping for the best that it hits a target. >>It was because Zeon also implemented its diabolical colony crash strategy, which consisted of maneuvering the "dead" colony cylinders into Earth orbit, and then decelerating them until they plummeted toward targets on the ground. When the first colony fell on New York, the horrified people of Earth were driven to action. Taking advantage of the fact that the Zeon forces required considerable time and energy and large numbers of Zakus to prepare for such a massive undertaking, the Earth Federation Forces regrouped and counterattacked. And you keep citing the novels like they apply to the anime. They fucking don't. And nice MTL attempt at the text there because that's not what Inoue is saying in the convo at all. >>23940390Just shut the fuck up. No they didn't see it as a conduit for profit you dumbass. They don't print the data books. It's the editors from all the wonky side mags that caused all the inconsistencies for decades.
>>23940545>I still have no idea why they would do define over CDAdefine and CDA are the same awful shit, one is a sequel to the other

>>23940978Except the dumbass in >>23940944 is trying to claim "le revisionism" when it's nothing of the sort.>>23940957Neither are, though. What the fuck do you think happens in war regardless? People thinking that one side held the moral high ground in Gundam needs to fucking rewatch everything.
>>23941010it's revisionism because the Feds never occupied Side 3 until Unicorn decided it happened
>>23941010>People thinking that one side held the moral high ground in Gundam needs to fucking rewatch everything. You could probably say the same about people who work on the shows. Like SEED doesn't even try to hide the fact that Kira and co. are the undisputed heroes and how cartoonishly evil the villains are.
>>23941060For the many faults SEED has, at least its writers decided to do dumb morality for their own creation. UC has had new writers come in to jerk off Zeon and demonize the Federation to the extreme for a while. Japs just refuse to let go of WW2.
>>23941018The fuck they didn't. MS ERA depicts them there, and that came out in 1990. Fucking Sentinel even mentioned the Federation having forces garrisoned at Side 3, so don't try to act like Fukui invented this fucking shit when he didn't.
>>23941072>MS ERA depicts them thereNo it doesn't. It shows the Federation taking backing Earth cities and towns occupied by Zeon.
>>23941098You fucking think Cecily Irene was down on Earth? It's Gihren's fucking office on Side 3.
>>23941098they're literally arresting Zeon officers in Zum CityAlso recruiting civilian populace to help destroy their own culture and pose for propaganda pictures
>>23941114>You fucking think Cecily Irene was down on Earth? It's Gihren's fucking office on Side 3.It could easily be the A Boa Que asteroid or some other nearby capital ship vessel (like a Gwazine ship) that got captured by the Federation trying to escape the battlefield. The Federation signed a treaty with Side 3 immediately afterwards. They never occupied it.
