Hey /m/, what are your thoughts on the Shogun Warriors comics from 1979? I read all 20 issue back on Thursday and thought they were really fun. They got a lot of the basics for Danguard, Raideen, and Combattler down and the mythos takes a lot of inspiration from the latter two. It acts as a pseudo sequel to the Godzilla comics, having Herb Trimpe doing both series and them having Dr. Demonicus being a monster maker villain after the first arc are the main connections. The final two issues deal with a gigantic battleship in robot form destroying Manhattan (pic related). Since the old Goji comics got an omnibus and Leopardon is part of the Spider-Man mythos more frequently in the comics, maybe this might get a re-release.

Are they original designs or reused from some anime?

Zombie from episode 3 of Combattler V shows up in the first few issues with a redesign similar to (but not 1:1) Madon from episode 4 of Raideen. Mecha Gante gets a recolor design as "Hand of Five" during the Dmeonicus art. Everything else however is technically original although they would be more at home with Getter Robo '74. The human sized villains act like the Yoma and Campbelleans, but the uniforms attitude seem to be similar to Danguard Ace's villains if that makes sense. Megatron reminds me more of Destroid from Voltes V than everything I mentioned. Gigantauron is wholecut Bronze Age of Comic.

This is all what I can interpret, pobody's nerfect after all.
