I enjoyed watching it when it came out week after week and waiting for the second cour after the first one ended in a cliffhanger.
The designs were original, the animation was 2D, the episodic plot with progression towards a common goal was fun, the plot was nothing crazy but delivered. Looking at other shows from the time I don't think this one was as scandalously bad as some people treated it.
The AI mascots are whatever, some people might hate them but they weren't entirely useless or out of place.

I kind of liked it, even if it wasn't groundbreaking.
>>
I don't think it's particularly bad or good, it's just kinda there. I love the mecha designs and the setting is basically bootleg Front Mission, I also respect that they stuck to doing as much 2d mecha as possible. The story doesn't really pick up any steam until about 5 episodes in and even then it loses that steam before the show's over I feel.
>>
It was, in fact, that bad
>>
were the gay little mascot animals really needed?

It has the same problem a lot of split 2 cour anime share, 1st cour does something intriguing/shocking to get you hooked but fails to deliver on the 2nd cour. It leaves no lasting impression due to how bland and safe it felt even on the first season.

TO SELL TOYS, but in this case I think it was supposed to attract the girls, maybe? Nevermind that the actual feminine public /m/ shows tend to attract are fujos, and this show had no fujo pandering, or any pandering in fact.

>implying men don't like cute mascots

>TO SELL TOYS
The hell of it is they didn't even do much with them in terms of toys. A single plushie each of them, and nothing else. Maybe they planned more but bailed when initial sales were low idk
>>
>>23952211
I'm not implying shit, anon, I wasn't even sure if this was really for the girls as the main target crowd, and as >>23952261 point out,
there was barely anything on the mascots merch. Men can like cute things all they want, but in this case, the cute things didn't made a difference on the series profits or it's muted legacy. Better luck on it's inevitable SRW inclusion, probably playing second banana to Code Geass.
>>
>>23951897
If anything it could have used being really bad instead of just having bland writing choices. But anyways the elevens in this universe aren't living any worse than current Japanese. It's not like Code Geass were most Japanese were living in slums.

it was mid as fuck. Best part of the show was a literal murderhobo robot. S2 tanked when they lost ghost.

>le ebin trainwreck
Fuck off.

>Better luck on it's inevitable SRW inclusion, probably playing second banana to Code Geass.
Feels like that was the only reason anyone wanted it in SRW.
>>
>>23951897
I also liked it but it felt like Bandai was aimless on the type of audience they wanted, like the show itself doesn't felt like a late night anime but rather like a yr show for younger audiences.
>>
>>23951897
>Was Kyoukai Senki really that bad?
Yes
>>
>>23952357

I hate that about critiquing a work of fiction. What can you get away with in your story without the complaint of "this work of fiction didn't know what it wanted to be nor the audience is sought". Did the story not need the AIs that are just mascots for those found in kids' shows?
>>
Worst sunrise alternative project to date.
>>
>>23951897
I don't remember anything about the show itself anymore, but I remember losing any interest in getting the kits after watching few episodes of it. I probably would've bought the Ghost kit otherwise.

The Chinese and Ozzie mechs were the best part of the show.
>>
>>23954459
Russian were easily the best.
>>
>>23951897
I loved it, needed more action though.
>>23952023
Unfortunately they were the only decent characters in the series which was one of two major misteps AMAIM had (the other was bad music).
>>
>>23951897
I really liked it. I feel like too many people got hung up on politics and wanted it to just be a knock-off Gundam. That was the main complaint I saw, at least.

>The politics are shallow. The worldbuilding is ba-
Like, nigger, this is an ACTION anime, not a political drama. The politics, aside from not even being that bad, are not the main focus. They are a vehicle to get you from A to B.
>>
>>23951897
It was worse than bad, it was BORING. At least a trainwreck show can be so bad you can laugh at it or find amusement in it's badness.
>>
>>23951897
Between the two fall 2021 mech shows featuring a robot trio, weird out-of-place mascot characters, and a plot about Japan losing its autonomy, Kyoukai Senki was the less weird, more boring entry.
>>
It flopped bad enough that its been half a decade since Banrise has tried to make an original mecha IP
>>

Synduality was last year. Kyoukai Senki/AMAIM predated Russia's invasion of Ukraine (2022).

That's just a game tie-in.

It was included as part of Sunrise's "50 Iconic works".
>>
>>23955741
Was Synduality just a Sunrise project or a coproduction? I saw it as more of a multimedia project with that tie-in game.
>>
>>23955868
Eight Bit was Synduality's animation studio.
>>
>>23955825
so is cross ange so that is faint praise

My bad. Mixed up what came out after Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury wrapped up (last episode airing July 2, 2023). Synduality: Noir's first episode aired July 11, 2023. Synduality: Echo of Ada came out last year (January 2, 2025). I remembering hearing Syn: Noir and Syn: EoA were to come out at the same time only for that to be torpedoed.

In any case, Synduality was mostly Bandai Namco, only getting Eight Bit to do Syn: N before buying them out.
>>
>>23955911

Made a mistake again. Syn: EoA came out January 23, 2025. Again, apologies.
