>Rochester's Gelgoog
>S-Type RF Gelgoog custom-made for Charles Rochester. It features equipment similar to Crossbone Vangaurd machines like beam shield and beam flag, specced for high mobility and command functions. Control system incorporates Psychoframe.
>RF High Speed Mobility Zaku
>Newtype space-use MS independently developed by Mars Zeon. While modeled after MSN-01 it's a high-spec 4th generation suit with the most advanced technology of the era.

>History of Bit weapons
>Originally developed by Flanagan Institute, Bit weapons are a system of drones and missiles remotely controlled even under Minovsky particle interference
>While nowadays they're firmly established as a weapon to reliably confirm kills by its mothership - the Newtype-use mobile weapon - and launching delayed attacks from blind spots their development involved much trial and error
>Braw-Bro's and Zeong's were merely wire-controlled mega particle cannons for all-range attacks
>Elmeth's Bits were intended for extreme long-range attacks via Minovsky Communication through the Psycommu system. In other words, a similar doctrine as Old Century's ICBM weapons.
>They were to be equipped with nuclear warheads and beam cannons capable of destroying enemy fleets and fortresses even under Minovsky dispersion
>However even an exceptional Newtype like Lalah struggled with executing long-range attacks and before long Bits were restricted to line of sight combat
>Although Bits saw little use during the OYW they achieved significant results and came to be recognized as Zeon's most powerful weapons similar to Big Zam
>As such, they spawned many derivatives such as:
>Qubeley specialized in all-range attacks with miniaturized bits
>Doven Wolf with two-dimensional pseudo all-range attack terminals using psycommu compatible with Oldtypes
>Alpha Azieru with high firepower using large scale bits
>>
>>23955717
>Furthermore, research into different Psycommu-guided weapons continued after the Elmeth such as the MAN-06 Freischütz developed at A Baoa Qu and equipped with Psycommu missiles or the Kshatriya Repaired which are examples of solid munition-type funnels.
>This process culminated in the Funnel Missiles of Xi Gundam and Draig
>Bit weapons were also used in second phase suits such as F90 N-Type and Berga Dalus Type B
>Jupiter Empire also developed NT-use Mobile Armors like the Elefante
>Although all-range attacks are not the be-all-end-all weapons as originally envisioned they are still considered useful to this day as evidenced by BESPA researching them

>Leon's RF Gelgoog
>Among the Oldsmobile "Newtype Champions" Leon Patel is second only to Charles Rochester
>His RF Gelgoog utilized the same basis as Rochester's custom machine which differed from the basic RF Gelgoog spec and was referred to as "Neue Gelgoog" or RF Gelgoog S-Type
>S-type features a generator with output ranging from 3230kW to 3870kW
>Although classified as a 2nd generation suit it's an ultra high performance machine capable of deploying a beam shield
>Its maneuverability is somewhat lacking compared to second phase machines, but the high output thrusters and large fuel capacity enable hit and run tactics that let it hold its own against not only F80 series but even the F90
>Furthermore, a micro-honeycomb structure is used in parts of its armor and the thruster and electronic components have been miniaturized, enabling reaction speed on a completely different level from conventional 2nd generation machines.
>It's believed this is the result of combining Oldsmobile's existing technology with that seized from F90 and provided by Buch
>>
>>23955717
>>23955720
>It appears that the S-Types shared the same frame and outer armor while being customized for their assigned pilots
>This is a combination of F90's mission pack concept and Zeon's custom MS doctrine
>Developed with absolute focus on high combat performance, the arms have been replaced with remotely guided Arm Bits similar to those of Verethragna
>These could take advantage of Leon Patel's Newtype abilities as regular bits but also deploy beam sabers and an I-Field barrier akin to Nu Gundam's
>This makes them a composite weapon with offensive and defensive capabilities
>The backpack option rack is equipped with a pair of funnels, though it can be switched for grenades or micro missiles depending on mission requirements
>Furthermore, these funnels function as simplified VSBRs
>Unlike those on F91 these are imperfect models that require manual speed control, more similar to Hardygun's beam cannon
>But they still provide 4th generation-level firepower and just like the Arm Bits they can deploy a beam barrier, though both need to be deployed for that
>Although these simple VSBRs can be used as Bits, SNRI's capacitor technology could not be fully analyzed and thus the Bits cannot maintain VSBR functions when detached and need to return for recharging after firing several shots
>These are controlled by Psychoframe embedded in the torso
>It's said there were plans for a mass produced model with civilian-grade Psycommu but it's unclear whether these were deployed during the 2nd Oldsmobile War
>As secondary weapons it's equipped with beam vulcans in the head and mega machine cannons on the chest as standard S-Type equipment
>>
>>23955717
>>23955723
>It is believed that the design of this unit draws heavily on data from the OMS-01RF (RF High-Mobility Type Zaku), developed by the Independent Zeon Forces on Mars. According to one theory, the frame layout incorporates one of the design proposals for the MSN-01 that was rejected during the Bishop Project; however, given that the true nature of the Bishop Project itself remains unclear, this can be regarded as nothing more than a rumour.
>The unit first appears in Federation records during the Battle of Konpeito on May 18th
>Engagement data related to this unit is also recorded in accounts of the Haoma Colony Incident on August 7th and the majority of Leon Patel's kills were achieved using this unit
>However, it's also possible the unit was rolled out before May and there's still no consensus on the deployment date of the RF Gelgoog Type-S
>In any case, it's indisputable Patel's blue Gelgoog achieved outstanding results during the 2nd Oldsmobile War.
>Furthermore, it played a decisive role towards the end of the campaign

SUPER
DESTROID
is there a more badass name out there?
>>
>>23957935
Magna is a part of G-Cannon Magna
Destroid just means the parts it got from D-type
Throwing in Super there is a great touch though.
I think it's amazing how it combines long range capabilities of L-type, mid range capabilities of S-type and close range capabilities of D-type, alongside having extra rockets and improved mobility.

So what do we think the Z-Type will be? After X-Type completely subverted expectations while simultaneously fulfilling them I really don't know what to expect, especially since the info on Z-Type is even more vague.
Some fanart that ironically wound up a bit like the N-Type Verethragna.
>>
>>23958086
The name Zero Type would indicate some form of NT-D evolution but I fail to see how they could integrate that into a new pack without designing a whole new body like was done with the F90IIIY
>>
>>23958172
>name Zero Type would indicate some form of NT-D
It would not? Like, at all.
>>
>>23958086
It being also the first unit of the new line implies that it would be a base version of the next generation mobile suit.
In other words F90Z might be a TR-S/TR-6 to F90's TR-1.
>>
>>23958172
If it was NT-D evolution, wouldn't it be just a spin-off of the N-type pack rather than a part of another one?
>>
>>23958221
I think it would be an evolution in the sense that it would have a full Destroy Mode, and it also being the first of the next generation would also mean it could be used as a bridge to the Crossbone line
>>
>>23958231
Youngstar-type is already that bridge and we know that Crossbone frame suits like F97, F97-E and F99 are still a part of F9 series and not F0.
If there's something that Z should tie-in to it is Victory and/or BESPA stuff.

>>
>>23958563
When you think about it, it does make sense. Both SNRI and Anaheim thought about Core Block as the next step at the time. There's no way F90Z wouldn't feature it as well.
There's also a precedent with X-type being designed to be fully used in conjunction with Y as well, so if Z is the next step, I'd imagine it would build on the two.
And thinking about it: Z, Zero, 0, Rei, Ray - F90Z might really be the final phase of Job's project of creating an ultimate version of RX-78-2.
>>
>>23958563
Cluster Kai could BE F90Z, even.
It's almost certainly related to Cluster either way, we know Y X Z packs are connected.
>>
>>23959210
Yeah, the reason why I called it a prototype is because the only picture of Cluster Kai we got is a prototype of it in the first place. I can the the final version being called Z and not Y anymore.

>>23960229
yeah lol they started right at the end of F90 and went from there till the start of 2nd Oldsmobile War, did a timeskip to the end of it and now we're waiting to see where they go from there.
I guess it's all ABOUT the war in a way but the war itself is firmly just Bergh's show and that was mostly in F90FF.
>>
>>23960236
Started at the end of F90 -> timeskipped a few months to meeting Lyle -> timeskipped a few more months to the beginning of the 2nd Oldsmobile War (with Ivalu getting imprisoned) -> timeskipped almost a year to near the end of the 2nd Oldsmobile War.
Well, you can say that having a lot of timeskips is on brand for Fastest Formula sequel.

Did anyone in the late UC ever figure out how to defeat or hinder Newtypes without pitting them against another Newtype? I’m talking things like disabling the ability to control remote weapons or triggering false Newtype reactions that induce their reflexes and cause a pilot to dodge when they shouldn’t, etc.
>>
>>23965725
There's just not that much need for dedicated anti-Newtype technology, bits are ultimately a secondary asset and not effective as the only or primary offensive tool. Psycommu and quasi psycommu have advanced to a level where Oldtypes can use them effectively and they still aren't all that common.
The thing that really sets Newtypes apart is higher sensitivity and reactions allowing them to achieve much greater results with the same tools, but you can't really have a counter for people that are simply more skilled pilots.

Technology-wise not really. Unicorn and Narrative had some vague psycho-jammer tech but never really explained how it worked, not that it did very much onscreen. It forms a pretty geometric cage and stops the psycommu from working properly. At best it forced the Unicorn to temporarily turn off NT-D and also kinda tethered the Unicorn in place, preventing it from leaving.

you mean besides like five different data books describing it?
It simply deploys a field that can shut down psychowaves but the jamming shuts down if the waves are too strong for its rating which Unicorn was.

>it's just anti-psycowaves, duh, and it stopped working because it was overpowered by more psycowaves
I'd have preferred it to be more of a thing where maybe it locks on to the same sort of frequency\wavelength\whatever that the enemy psycommu is using and disrupts remote weapons by broadcasting garbage psycowaves that interfere with signal transmission between the remote weapon and the user, or maybe it generates pulses of very strong psycowaves like a flashbang that newtypes and newtype equipment will get interrupted by because they can't just turn off their senses and ignore it. Like, these are specific mechanisms and it's messing with those systems. In some other stories there are examples of newtype equipment not working because funnels and bits wouldn't sync and become controllable by the pilot because of compatibility issues, or the psycommu system in a MS wouldn't engage and link with the pilot, so I'd like the idea of an anti-newtype system to target these potential points of failures.

then again newtype stuff is essentially magic so yeah, I suppose wanting something to stop it just means you end up with anti-magic

Neat. Apparently Overhang Pack alone had about as many parts as the Gun-EZ.
Also it seems like it's based on a picture from Comic BonBon, so it isn't entirely unofficial. I doubt that Overhang Pack would've been used in-universe much over Gunblaster's binders for general purpose stuff, but it would've been useful for midrange fire support (Guncannon bros we are still relevant).

Neat, I think I've seen a screenshot of that before but it's good to see some confirmation. Very cool parallel to Cypher too.
On that note remined we still have several Draigs unaccounted for:
>At least units whose location is kept confidential, some were delivered to Von Braun and some to Earth
>units 7 and 8 that were stolen while in transport to Luna II, officially reported as destroyed in an accident. The same incident also resulted in the death of Vice President Lau who opposed the Silhouette Formula Porject
>One of these is the machine used by Cypher but the other's whereabouts are unknown
>both of them are also confirmed to be equipped with Psychoframe which is not standard for the model

And this is besides the first two units, one of which was lost in a test accident and the other (that competed with F90) is on standby and used in Hardygun development.

And THIS is besides the Draig Active seen here which is a complete mystery with its all-white coloring and a head with eyes and v-fin resembling Xi Gundam.

The first movie features them pretty prominently, you can see the white glow in the inner legs, the shoulders and the wings that's very distinct from the orange lights of the ordinary thrusters or the pulsing yellow of Penelope's Minovsky Flight.
These are just quick screenscaps of half-decent shots, it's even more noticeable in the film itself. For that matter the clips of movie 2 also highlight it pretty well. Especially the new trailer for Netflix

>>23972701
Y'see, I'm working on a HG Penelope right now. The Minovsky parts are pretty easy to spot, I'm painting them gold. The Xi is up next, but I'm not sure what should be yellow and what should be gold. How would you do it?
>>
>>23972826
Like I said the thrusters in the wings, the inner legs and in the shoulders. Your best bet is checking the Circe trailer and noting their locations. I guess a silvery chrome would work best for them while regular thrusters have orange.

Xi doesn't have much in the way of glowy bits when the M-Craft is working. Penelope's does, but Xi's doesn't really. Xi glows when the Beam Barrier activates in high speed form though, as it's incinerating air and causes both of them to actually glow all over. The movies do show this and the novels call it out too.

Pic kinda unrelated, this is just the Xi's M-Craft active as it lifts up. There just aren't many glowy bits from the operation of the M-Craft on it alone.
>>
>>23973371
yeah of course it's not gonna have much glowing stuff if you pick the single worst possible angle for that
>>
>>23973376
>single worst possible angle
>a night shot showing the underside of the shoulder units
idk what shot you think would show the M-Craft units glow any better
I could have clipped it taking off in broad daylight in the water but yknow it's not glowing there either and it's broad daylight and you can't really see under the shoulders like you can here

Proper new types have impressive sixth sense for things, the idea that going into space would trigger an evolution and a need for people to be better than they were/are
Amuro just happened to have a sixth sense for combat but the zeons desperately needed combatants and tried funnels as a way to direct the will to destroy
In short not all new types were purely talented at killing (katz and Fa were good at not dying for instance, but Katz's luck ran out)
And every attempt to produce new types yielded mentally immature or straight up schizophrenic people
Basically weaponized/cyber new types were often their own counter

In the image I just posted they do have actual lights of some sort on them, in fact the only thing on the shoulders that does in that picture, a line of lights along the length of them
They are probably an element of the M-Craft system, but who knows really? We only know so much about the designs even with the movies and we especially know even less about the specifics of minovsky craft.

anyway that said here's my random bullshit spitballing, it would make some sense if they were either elements responsible for controlling minovsky particles/maintaining the I-Field lattice for M-Craft or maybe part of the dispersal of particles. Or maybe it's just a vent for heat from the system. Who knows?

This is a bit beside the point but it's another easy example of "what is this on this design?" All the little areas with little pinprick lines are also of dubious function. They're a pretty prominent bit of design language across both units but nothing's been said about what they are. I've always been partial to the idea they're sandbarrels, but I think it's possible they're related to the beam barrier too. To be clear I mean the things you se on the tips of the knees and shoulders here. By the way I think it's a fair metric to judge how cool any given redesign of them are by how much they incorporate this element cus it looks cool as fuck. Big sad our movie Xi ditches them from several prominent areas it once had them. Still covers the shield though.
>>
>>23965725
No one mentioned it but since I just mentioned them, sandbarrels. Sandbarrels pop up in HF and Gaia Gear as anti-remote weapons. They're basically just particulate shotguns as far as we can tell. They don't feature much in any detail but Gaia Gear makes more use of them than HF. As I recall the only mention of them in HF is during the last fight between Lane and Hathaway, Lane uses them somewhere in there. Maybe we'll see them next movie.

And there's also the Anti-Funnel System of REON, which I think also showed up on the Great Zeong in Moon Crisis, but either way it's a bit of technology only in Masafumi's works and it doesn't really mean much for the broader timeline.
>>
>>23973395
The fact that nobody can tell what is what is a hint that the design is a busy mess
>>
>>23973402
not a soul in this universe can tell you why the gouf or zaku needs power cables around its head however
>>
>>23973395
I think they're supposed to be speed holes. To slightly shave off overall weight and make it lighter. To me anyway.
>>
>>23973404
that'd shave off like .000000000000000001% of their total weight, there's almost nothing removed, I dunno how it could add up enough to be that at all
Definitely feel like they're an intentional weapon or system element apart from the reality which was just Moriki smiling to himself, nodding and saying yeah those look rad as fuck.

>>

For the third time, it's the inner legs, the wings and the shoulders. Including the part you circled which you can clearly see glows white. You have the first movie and clips from the second movie, soon enough the whole movie. It's really not hard to cross reference them with the kit at this point man...
>>23973395
>Who knows?
We know. These are parts of Minovsky Flight units. You can easily infer that from their placements and how the exact same light is used on the shoulder flaps to indicate it. The design informs the viewer if they bother to try and study it.
>>23973395
>All the little areas with little pinprick lines are also of dubious function.
Missile/sandbarrel other munition launchers. The second movie prominently features Xi firing sandbarrels from the ones in the shield actually.
>>23973402
The audacity IS the point. It's an acquired taste, nobody's denying it, but every part of it has a purpose even if it's deliberately confusing the viewer and going against all artistic conventions. That's how you make a work that stands out. Xi and Penelope are a perfect example of that approach since they were ultimately only slightly changed yet still manage to garner more and more popularity decades later.
>>
>>23973440
Not a single one of those pinpricks is a missle launcher. I don't recall Xi firing sandbarrels from the shield in it either but I only saw it the once.

Contrast with the vertical fins jutting out of Penelope's shoulders here, they are not unlike Xi's blue parts on the shoulders and they have the same pulsing light pattern as other Minovsky Flight units on Penny.
>>23973480
Skill issue honestly. My only complaint is the HG kit fumbles them a bit and the heels don't move the way they're supposed to.
>>
>>23973462
That's cool. Like said though, they aren't missile launchers. Never have been, so weird thing for you to say while acting like a know-it-all.

I'd call you a fool for trying to make something out of the lights and "easily inferring design elements" but best to just leave it here. I'm going to point out the chest unit fins and the outer leg blocks don't have lights, though, while the typical leg block vents on the inner side of the legs do, and that despite what you suggest this design is not actually a real design with a real working minovsky craft obeying reality but instead a bunch of people making their best effort at making something cool from what they can. We flat out don't know what element does what beyond what is specifically said, and we're here past the point of what is specifically said.

VOL 48 - GRAND ZAM
(or Gran Zam, nobody knows at this point really)

>Big Zam
>Deployed to Solomon by Gihren Zabi and piloted by Dozle Zabi in a suicide attack on the Feddie fleet
>Allegedly its operation time was limited to 20 minutes however combat records are unclear

>Jamru Fin
>Core of an Axis-developed Big Zam successor, converted into a transformable MS
>A number was produced and equipped with various loadouts
>Redesigning it as a mobile armor served as a prototype for the Grand Zam

>MAs fielded in the OYW like Bigro and Elmeth were created following a long period of testing and prototyping before seeing real combat
>Meanwhile, Big Zam suddenly appeared in the records when Gihren sent it to reinforce Solomon
>It could deflect naval beam cannons, its speed and agility out matched space fighters and even mobile suits and it had the firepower to destroy an entire fleet
>Were it not for Amuro Ray's desperate close range attack there is little doubt Big Zam would have dealt devastating losses to the Tianem fleet and derailed the Feddie offensive, letting Zeon reconquer Solomon
>It's unclear if Gihren truly believed in Big Zam's value
>At the very least, Dozle did not count it among his main forces at the eve of battle which is only natural with an untested weapon
>However, Gihren may have been right
>As a 240 IQ genius it's possible he assessed its abilities independently from California Base's MA-05 and Kycilia's MAN series models
>It's impossible to know
>Regardless, its incredible firepower was undeniable
>After the war Feddies pursued development of weapons to counter it, such as GP03 and Psycho Gundam while Zeon developed successors like Neue Ziel and Alpha Azieru
>History proved Gihren's foresight, but it's unfortunate the MA that he personally oversaw, the Gromlin, could not be delivered on time for the battle of A Baoa Qu
>>
>>23995350
>>23995395
>GRAND ZAM
>Deployed during the Second Wrath of Varuna operation
>It's evident from its appearance and design philosophy that it's a base defense MA descended from the Big Zam
>equipped with an I-Field and a beam shield
>armed with numerous anti-air machine guns and mega particle cannons, its defenses are impenetrable
>it inflicted heavy casualties on Feddie MSs attacking Epsilon City
>the main weapon is the high mega cannon in the center, rated at 118.75 MW
>together with the on-board biocomputer it can perform precision firing at tens of thousands of kilometers
>it's also equipped with a 240mm rail cannon, enabling effective attacks on heavy MAs with I-Field defenses
>the missile launchers on various are capable of firing not only conventional warheads but also Funnel Missiles linked to its Psychoframe, suggesting lineage connection to the Psycho Gundam Mk-II
>the lower section consists of a massive thermonuclear rocket engine, enabling complete freedom of movement on the ground and high thrust in the atmosphere
>the combination of massive assault thrusters and countless beam cannons is reminiscent of the later Rafflesia and there is no doubt Grand Zam's data was used in its development
>it is equipped with Minovsky Flight
>Together with its beam barrier it can perform independent atmospheric entry
>this is in line with Big Zam's original operational plan and similar to the Big Zamuru developed with the same approach
>it should be noted the total production number remains unclear to this day
>for uncertain reasons the mass driver assault operation proceeded before the full force could be produced, leaving several unfinished frames at the Martian base
>it's unknown how many were completed and where they were deployed
>>
>>23995350
>>23995406
>to borrow the words of Romero Malavar (poached by SNRI in UC 0120 and involved in F series), Grand Zam was "as lavish as a Christmas cake" - overspecced for the Oldsmobile forces designed almost exclusively for guerilla warfare
>as such, though the design was largely finalized during the first Oldsmobile Campaign it's believed Jupiter Phantom chose to only recover the frame and psycommu unit
>Charles Rochester believed that deploying the Grand Zam would, paradoxically, restrict their flexibility
>Although he was acclaimed as a Newtype and a perfect pilot for it he didn't want to sacrifice strategic versatility for tactical victory
>he reasoned that it would be better to assemble the required number of mobile suits and fight the Federation head-on to retain the upper hand
>However, after his fleet was destroyed - as planned from the outset by the Crossbone Vanguard - left him with no other options
>Oldsmobiles, a guerille force, had to resort to being besieged in Epsilon City
>as such, Grand Zam was suddenly requested for deployment before it could have been fully prepared
>yet the pilot wasn't Rochester, but rather Dem Dehajo
(sic?)
>a political officer seconded as a supervisor
>fervent follower of Iron Mask, he intended to battle the Fedeartion, attack the Earth and demonstrate the true spirit of Cosmo Nobility
>it's true Grand Zam proved immensely powerful
>however, it was alsoa colossal waste of lives and resources, serving only as a sacrificial pawn for Cosmo Babylonia
>Dehajo felt he died in glory, but for Rochester and everyone else around him it was a nuisance and a burden
>perhaps that's the essence of the Second Oldsmobile Campaign
>regardless, the fighting was about to spill into the first battle of Illuyanka Space Fortress

One thing I forgot to note here is they mention the initial Grand Zam design from before the fall of Mars and the one used at the end of 2nd OM War have differences, though it's unclear what exactly. Also we have another mention that the Olympus Cannon attack plan was carried out ahead of schedule which has been hinted at before. We only have some general descriptions of the leadup to F90's events from the Martian side so there are still a lot of unanswered questions there.
Makes me wonder what the "early-type" Grand Zam would have been like. Not too different, certainly, but still.
Also:
>equipped with minovsky flight and beam barrier
>capable of atmospheric entry on its own
>potentially carrying funnel missiles
Isn't this basically Xi Gundam turned into a mobile armor? Given its size turning into a superheavy MA isn't even THAT crazy, though it's also a perfect example of the versatility of suits over armor. Honestly if Oldsmobiles just had a few Xi Gundams they would have been stoked.
Wait, doesn't this make Rafflesia an indirect Xi successor? lmao
At the same time the psycommu-assisted long-range targeting is reminiscent of Zanneck as well as the Inle.

Silhouette seems like a logical choice. Not only from a plot standpoint, but with Gunpla as well. We already have a RE/100 of the Vigna-Zirah. Bandai could probably squeeze out a P-Bandai MG of the Silhouette, Neo, and probably a RE/100 of the Berga Balus.

definitely seems the smartest, it's chronologically the next thing so there's barely any need for time skips. And like you say they went out of their way to make a Vigna Zirah kit ways back. Easy opportunity for Silhouette and Neo, there's a shit ton of F90 kits but something similar yet different should be a good choice now.
Berga Balus will also be an easy remold of Giros/Dalas runners which are inevitable at this point.

I fully expect them to, the second Illuyanka Battle between CV and Federation was after the movie and Nana Tachibana was already set up as one of the major Formula pilots. Her brother has already had a prominent role in the manga as well and they've already adapted a portion of the story anyway.
Plus Lyle gets his Cluster Gundam after the movie as well and I can't imagine they're gonna just finish the plot there unless we get another sequel right afterwards.

at this point it's very mature, well documented technology that's been in use for half a century and is perfect for the purpose. Even miniaturized suits begin using it on occasion, several F90 packs besides Assault use it as a supplemental measure and F91 maybe had it or maybe not. A superheavy MA like this definitely should have it.
Plus it was already intended to be installed in Big Zam so this is just making it a reality.

historically it has been muddy with some databooks and so on saying yay and others nay, even for the movie the animation director (iirc?) said F91 was animated under the assumption it has it. And there's also a whole enigma with some kind of early Minovsky Drive as well.
More recently Monthly Mobile Machine has mentioned that there are "multiple testimonies" of F91 having Minovsky Flight with data inherited from F90A but no concrete proof and it's entirely possible it had just regular thermonuclear thrusters. So basically nobody really knows even in-universe lmao
Same situation with Drive that I mentioned, SNRI supposedly considered installing a simplified F90W-based module as an instant acceleration system but SUPPOSEDLY never reached agreement with EFF.
Both of these tidbits come from vol 20
Besides that the recent F90 Setting Materials Collection notes it's theoretically possible an incomplete "Minovsky Drive effec" occurred when F91 reached maximum Biocomputer performance. This harkens back to Victory production materials where the basic principle of Minovsky Drive technology was described as a fusion of theories behind VSBR and Minovsky Flight technologies.

Again, all of it is deliberately vague and unclear "maybe yeah maybe nah" and it's anyone's guess if that ever changes.

I think saying it doesn't look anything like a Crossbone is a big stretch. It shares a really similar structure even if the details are different. The arm construction for instance still has the same basic form of the Crossbone arms with the brand marker being whatever the hell those thingies are. The chest has the same cavity where the corefighter can fit, but no head portion, so it could just be a Crossbone with more a V style Corefighter. The legs share the same general structure too. The shoulders are different in form but only in the armour again.

The whole thing it basically just some armour bits away from being a Crossbone in appearance really.

as far as the majority of things go UC runs out of substantial works by UC 200
There's only two works set around that time with reasonable pedigree (G-Saviour and Gaia Gear), though largely irrelevant in reality. Otherwise V in 153 is the last thing that is unquestionable. Crossbone goes past it though.

Outside of that there are a few small random works that take place centuries later, but they're really so much their own thing as random sidestories and have little pull as works. Under the Gundam Almarya and Mad Wang anyway.

Turn A/X don't deal with aliens. At all. As anything Tomino wrote goes he was never considering aliens. Turn X was supposed to be made by people who left the solar system during the dark history, the background vaguely being interstellar wars between factions of humanity. But it's kinda beside the point so nothing gets into it.

...Except Hasegawa who supposes that Judau leaving in Sidestory of V is effectively going to found the civilization that goes on to produce Turn X.

one thing about that post is that the wings aren't something the phantom or the v2 wants to have. they're failed particle conversions. A perfect MDS suit wouldn't have any wings of light or beam flames or anything. It would have a drive that achieved 100% particle conversion rate into the I-Field repulsion mechanism and thus have no exhaust to get rid of.

Yeah although V definitely plays kinda fast and loose with it. To this day, powerscalers still can't agree on this one question. Which MS is stronger, V2 or Ghost Gundam? V2 has better WoL, but Silver Phantom has full body I-field, better weapons, anti-beam coating, offensive "fire" attacks, built-in semi-sentient AI, etc...
The various V2 "Full armor" forms probably win out though
>>
>>24010743
powerscalers aren't people so it doesn't really matter
if we're talking about just pros and cons of the suits then it's worth keeping in mind Phantom is a fuckass Jovian prototype where half the features are buggy or broken whereas V2 is a fuckass Earthsphere prototype that's, like, at least 80% working as intended
>>
>>24010743
V2AB has I-Fields and more weaponry than it needs to deal with an entire fleet (better weapons too actually). Like that manga scene is cool but it's actually way less impressive than when Usso fires the beam spray pod.
Better MDS is the icing on the cake
With Usso plugging in his support HaroGOD? no chance

V2's just a better machine than the Phantom in all sortsa regards
>>
>>24010745
I'd say Jovian tech consistently beats Earthspere tech across the entire franchise, especially the later we get into UC. And Ghost fixes all the glitches and fuckass features between the Vtuber AI, the coolant pods, and giving itself impromptu bottom surgery with a beam saber
>>24010746
Yeah, I was comparing it with base V2 mostly. AB is on a class of its own.
>>
>>24010767
Even ignoring the potential AB, I think something easily overlooked is that the "V2 Gundam" is ultimately just the core fighter of it. It houses everything important. As V shows it's a pretty strong ability to throw your pants at people, including a drone fleet of your pants, but taking it to its logical conclusion you can build a lot of different MS frames for that core fighter to fit into and work with. Between that and having hardpoints everywhere even on the V2 proper, its ability to evolve as a design and fulfill different roles is way greater. When you take it to the extremes V2 can start to look like a even more insane TR-6+F90 lovechild, but obviously we never see much of that/there isn't much of an industrial base in the lore for that sorta thing to happen/plenty of other little caveats, but either way it's a remarkable design any way you slice it when you think about grand aerospace war strategy, service lifespans, military logistics blahblahblah.
>>
>>24010767
idk aside from particularly insane specialized tech like Bio-brains most of their real good stuff only came about because they managed to nab Crossbone and other SNRI data. The whole reason Crossbone Vanguard under Berah Ronah could be a threat and even get away with non-lethal takedowns was because the Crossbones had a massive performance gap over anything the Jovians threw at them.
Even when they form the dedicated anti-Gundam kill squad via the Death Gale team it's a trio of specialized models that can't compete with Crossbone 1 on 1 and needs the entire team working together to their strenghts to get the advantage.
Afterwards almost all of their best shit and prototypes harken back to the X2 data they got like Amakusa, Cornix and later Thoucus and their own Crossbones.
(hey hold on... Death Gale trio? Death Guns trio? oh my god)
>>
>>24010785
>(hey hold on... Death Gale trio? Death Guns trio? oh my god)
Now you're gettin it, amigo
>Afterwards almost all of their best shit and prototypes harken back to the X2 data
Yeah as far as their completely homegrown MS development they had good designs but basically nothing in the original Crossbone comes close to their performance level. On the otherhand we also don't really know where that fits them in with other stuff, but the Batallas and derivatives all read as cutting-edge MS that were probably better than rest of the Crossbone Vanguard MP assets from F91 to me, but I'm not sure if there's any basis for that beyond my feelings.
At this point some elements of the greater Crossbone canon are maybe a little too circlejerky with the OG Crossbones but whatever, it's his playground and he's earned it. I can't deny it's fun the Jovians keep obsessing harder and harder to the point of building replicas because these dudes keep blowing them the fuck out every few years even though they have actually built plenty of MS surpassing their performance. Basically no excuses after they made the Cornix really, all the MS performance in the world can't save you if some damn kid falls into a little noble space piracy.
>>
>>24010785
>can't compete with Crossbone 1 on 1
I'd say that's more down to pilot skill than Crossbone performance. Crossbones don't really have any standout features outside of being good generalists and having some "dirty fighting" potential with all the built-in weapons, the pilot needs to be a newtypeGOD to actually beat shit like the Quavarze that will just rape you with chainsaws, or the Tortuga that is simply immune to all damage.
>Thoucus
Same deal, with the caveat that some of the niches they fill are some pointless bullshit (let's make an MS that can stand on shorelines to attack bases safe from ground assaults... in a time period where in-atmosphere flight is commonplace).. And then there's shit like Zanspine. I'd say at no point in any of the crossbone mangas does it feel like the crossbones win by "stat checking" opponents and being the better MS (unlike say, the Unicorn), the Crossbones are always underdogs that need to get tricksy and figure out a counter to beat the OP jovian monster.

>Now you're gettin it, amigo
calling it now MMM is gonna mention this similarity at some point
>Batallas and derivatives all read as cutting-edge MS
Batalla is described as focusing on cheap and practical production so it seems just serviceable for the time period to me but admittedly this is all vibes-based anyway. Berga series seems better to me and Vigna line is really no worse than Formula Gundams, even the high end Batalla derivates like Erebado don't really show off much despite looking cool as fuck.
>maybe a little too circlejerky with the OG Crossbones but whatever
yeah it gets a tiny bit contrived when they're just building copies of Crossbone but I like it honestly, better for the manga to be too bold and proud than too humble and try to diminish itself and hide in a corner where it doesn't impact anything else. Giving Crossbone such an enduring legacy in UC is just a reflection of how it became a hallmark of Gundam especially for a manga.
>>24010807
>Crossbones don't really have any standout features outside of being good generalists
their design concept is dummy high speed and close combat, but I do get what you mean. I didn't mean Crossbones win all the fights by just raw power, that's a disservice to all the fantastic choreography and fight structures in the manga. But just like how they have to get tricky to get a win the enemies always have something special ranging from unique functions to raw skill and fervor to let them get the edge over Crossbone in the first place.
This is then juxtaposed in Ghost where by that point Crossbone is just okay and no longer a cutting edge MS under any real measure.
>>
>>24010807
> I'd say at no point in any of the crossbone mangas does it feel like the crossbones win by "stat checking" opponents and being the better MS
Cmon my dude you can't say this when they literally stat checked beam sabres and it was like a huge gimmick for them for the whole OG manga, they're monstrous in their depictions there.
They're absolutely portrayed as more mobile and capable than virtually everything they fight against, they're just outnumbered. Seabook dunking on F91s was definitely cus he was a badass pilot, but ALSO because the Crossbones are nuts.

in fairness against F91 in particular with an ace like Harrison it really came down to skill and knowledge, the double block on the VSBR was not something anyone else could have pulled off in that moment. Ultimately F91 and F97 are pretty even baring extreme circumstances and specialized combat - full performance Biocomputer is nutty but Crossy is suited for Jovian combat

God it's a crime they don't seem to have ever made good digital scans of Crossbone and now the raws are borked
>>
>>24010825
> Berga series seems better to me and Vigna line is really no worse than Formula Gundam
Yeah I was thinking a lot more for their mainline series, Den'ans basically. Erebado gets completely shafted and does nothing despite its Xenomorph lookin ass, but I definitely got the idea it was "supposed" to be something like a Berga or Vigna equivalent or thereabouts. If I was being really charitable I think Quavarze is probably the earliest MS Crossbone shows us that seems to meaningfully compete with the Crossbones on most fronts, and they MP it in the scope of the original manga so I feel like it's noteworthy overall.
>>
>>24010825
Fair enough, I guess I never really got the feel that they were particulaely fast compared to other miniaturized MS, thpugh maybe that's due to the manga format. I can't remember much about the Harrison fight, was it keeping up with the F91 in full speed demon mode?
>>24010826
To be fair "biggetr beam saber" has been a thing since like Z or ZZ, not much of an innovation, though it's true that the MS doing it are ususally monsters like the ZZ
>>24010834
>Jovian combat
I think it's funny that despite being designed for that, 90% of their fights are in the Earth Sphere. It does give them great thrust vectoring/AMBAC though!
>>
>>24010834
The variable thruster setup is always shown to give them a strong edge, their agility just really never gets checked until Amakusa in Skull Heart. Everything can kill in one good hit (and especially against MP F91s, he's dead in one unblockable hit) so I personally think he'd have outright lost if he was in anything other than Crossbone in that whole sequence. It's got a biocomputer too, as much as it tends to be forgotten about.
Yeah the general scans around are a bit lacking. I've got some old physical copies myself but they're a bit yellowed.

>To be fair "biggetr beam saber" has been a thing since like Z or ZZ, not much of an innovation, though it's true that the MS doing it are ususally monsters like the ZZ
It's not really just bigger beam sabre but the fact they're so strong they are consistently cutting through beam sabres and beam shields and when they can't do it it actually surprises the pilot. That's really rare. Outside of Crossbone the amount of times a beam sabre cuts through or overpowers another one is extremely rare in Gundam. It does happen a couple times, but it's not common at all, even to this day - let alone in 1994. But it happens all the time in Crossbone, it's the norm for them and they cut through them like a hot knife through butter multiple times, and that being the case makes them fairly exceptional.

I'd say that's probably on point, Quavarze was certainly the most effective of the Death Gale trio. Erebado is a really peculiar thing since it feels like a fusion of usual high-spec suits with a recon machine, interesting parallel to Vigna Ghina being derived from Daghi Iris. And it has a swiss army knife arm like Ebirhu-S too...
>>24010848
>maybe that's due to the manga format.
might be, they're explicitly dummy quick compared to Earthsphere-use suits to the point they're really hard to use outside of Jupiter's gravity well. And even there they sure seem to be like they have a mobility advantage against most things.
>was it keeping up with the F91 in full speed demon mode
yeah they're going at it teeth bared and everything, very erotic honestly
granted Seabook obliterated all the lesser F91 pilots in like 6 panels because he's just that good and they're just that okay
>>24010849
True, Crossy has a biocomputer too but we never see it reach the same kind of maximum performance burst and there's no MEPE functionality to reflect that. Could be the version installed on them just has more balanced performance but can't reach the same maximum level or maybe it actually can and I just don't remember
It's not even an issue with the scans at this point, by all accounts even Bandai doesn't have better quality raws now probably because they didn't keep proper track of preserving them when it was just another random manga, many cases like this sadly.
I feel like the best case scenario now would be if Hasegawa remade it for the 40th anniversary or something but that just sounds like a pain in the ass to do so I doubt he will

The Phantom and all of its variants are the Jack of all trade yet master of none kind of suit. Yes it have all of those features built in, but most of them were poorly implemented before proper adjustments has been made. Meanwhile, the V2 have a better Minovsky Drive and a Core fighter eject system, but you have to equip it with addons for specific situations (good luck flying at full speed with the complete set). Plus, as previous threads pointed out, it's more useful as a frontline sweeper; the I-Fields and the Wings of light made it difficult to work within a team of mobile suits.

all in all, the Phantom does manage to make a name of itself without outshining that of the titular suit of the Anime it was a side story of. It's probably the reason why they hold out on this concept (>>24010036

F91's MEPE mode isn't really a performance burst. It lives with the broad identity of it conceptually but it is nothing more than it shedding armour because it's running too hot, that's all. The biocomputer itself does adjust the handling of the MS based on the pilot, but the maximum performance being reached is actually a distinct thing only linked to metal peel off activating. There's a correlation but technically it can happen without the biocomputer running at full power, and the biocomputer can also run at full power for some amount of time before the heat becomes unmanageable. Later things don't use metal peel off because they actually just manage their heat better and the biocomputer became more efficient - that's at least a posited reason that the MP F91s don't have it anyways even when their biocomputers have limiters removed for Ace units. Anyways, point being, it's a couple distinct things that aren't indicative of much.

It amuses me that even late into UC with new factions coming into play with all their wacky new ideas, the EFF (or SNRI or Anaheim really) never tried to make even a single MA

there were plenty in the 0080s and some still in the 0090s to be fair, but after that it is very rare yes.
In fairness they're also just rarer in general, Oldsmobile and CV have like one each and even these are rather specialized. Jovians have a bunch but even they kinda slow down with that later.
Zanscare also had a couple but that was a full-scale war so it's different circumstances, and even then it's not too many compared to early UC.
It would be pretty cool to see SNRI or Anaheim try their hand at a MA concept for Feddies in, like, UC 0130s or something.

you've got the Psycho Gundams and the Asshimars and the Gaplants (there IS a difference between transformable MAs and transformable MSs and these two are firmly the former) and a couple side story things, and then a bunch more from Kondo's works in particular too and no doubt more that I am missing

How come Minovsky flight was already a mature technology by 105, but then we needed to wait until Victory to see it again? F90 had a prototype version but that felt less advanced than what Xi got.

Because they started shrinking suits for various reasons meaning it had to be shrunk even further. Granted they went a bit to far as the tiny ass core fighter from the Victory has a system in it strong enough for the whole mobile suit.

I think that they miniaturize the Minovsky Drive system down enough to a simple fighter jet, when it was previously used for the Mother Vangaurd; which was an upgrade from the flight system which it's a step towards FTL travel
>>
>>24011061
No, a couple of other models exist as well. The Ground Gundams are already mass-produced as is until they ran out of parts. There was a production line for the Gundam Mk-II in Gundam Thunderbolt, I don't think they've been shown in combat but they look more or less identical. In regular UC there was nothing stopping the Mark II from being produced since it had nothing special that was too expensive or difficult to produce either, just that no one bothered to do it. Besides, it fell off in terms of performance so much that its performance is already met by other production MS not long after it was first deployed.

The MK-II was a true prototype where it didn't even have high end armor. It was just a demonstrator for the moveable frame.

if you wanna get really cute about it I guess there's R Gundam with the model F99R but that's an SD little guy with no actual relation to the Formula series. It just happens to be IRL inspired by Victory's design (and Tekkaman) and have some loadout options akin to F90.
Unless they get really funny with this stuff in the future it doesn't really count of course.
Other than that nothing really, F92 was briefly considered as a potential series with design studies like Ishigaki's work here >>24011014 but that never went anywhere beyond very early planning that soon turned into Victory.

>full performance Biocomputer is nutty
What does that even mean in practical terms?
SNRI MS tech wise, bio-computer primary function is likely swift adaptation to any equipment one might throw at it, seeing as it was a replacement to computers they used on F90 and F70, while even F80 computer was a compomise. Of course it also allows to fine-tune the movement with psycommu, but it's likely not a big concern in comparison.
>>
>>24011461
For F91 in particular if the biocomputer is fully synced up with a Newtype pilot it releases all of the suit's limiters, raising its speed, reactions and power while still maintaining the man-machine connection to the pilot's brain. It's why the dang thing was running so hot it causes the MEPE phenomenon.

All we know is that the Z stands for "Zero" and that F0 registration is reserved as a continuation of the F9 series after model 9
People have theorized it might link to later machines such as Zanscare since they're also SNRI descendants and there's really no space in the of Cluster timeline to do more predecessors to F91 at this point. Plus there's an SD version of Shokew called Zero Gundam, just like how there was an SD Mars F90 version called Mars Gundam.
Also Cluster appears to display the MEPE phenomenon too.
>>24014261
AE too. Romero Matabal (Malavar? Who knows?) is namedropped in Mobile Machine vol 4 talking about how much F70 fucking sucks as a mass production model. He was the chief engineer at the time and also worked on the Draig. We had a really on the nose quote from him too lol
>Machines should be simple enough for a grade-schooler to pilot and a refugee to maintain.
The latest Mobile Machine mentions he got poached by SNRI in the '20s and also worked on the Formula series.
>>
>>24014539
I feel like that wouldn't make sense, both because MEPE isn't the intended behaviour and that we're firmly beyond F91 on the tech tree. If anything one could say that F91 was the test machine to equip F90 with biocomputer.
Not to mention that we know that Z-Type is supposed to be the prototype for the next generation, which likely means that it is the Cluster situation again, where it is basically the new mobile suit.
>>
>>24014564
>The latest Mobile Machine mentions he got poached by SNRI in the '20s and also worked on the Formula series.
Not surprising, considering that AE was leaving the MS market (beyond continuing to mass-produce Javelin) during the time period. Neo Gundam was quite possibly the last new design they made.
>>
>>24014567
So Silhouette Gundam? Doesn't look like that thing can equip Mission Packs.
>>
>>24014567
>one could say that F91 was the test machine to equip F90 with biocomputer.
That's going way too far in the other direction, F91 was a complete model in its own right with its own goals and purpose rather than being a technological prototype
>>24014700
Silhouette is a completely different unrelated thing for this conversation
>>
>>24014702
So they really are going for F-0 Gundam as mentioned in some A to Z promo page.
>>
>>24014731
all the other mission packs are based on these old notes too
>>
>>24014702
Well, I didn't mean that it was the entire purpose of F91, but it's prototypes and development was closely tied in with the development of the biocomputer, to the point of delaying the otherwise ready mobile suit from getting into the production for years.
Though it probably isn't fair to say that it was to equip just the F90. SNRI desperately needed a new computer generation for all their projects, that wouldn't be as hard to work with as what they used before for F90 and F70.
>>
>>24014193
>>24014586
This explains the setting of Crossbone Dust and onward; with League millitare being disbanded and most of their mechanics were either dead or retired, along with AE, SNRI, and BESPA being defunct in the MS department, everyone have to resort to kitbash to create new mobile suits. Hell, the information regarding the Minovsky Drive for Mobile Suits were pretty much lost outside the Phantom.
