is this Japanese guy right?
Was F91 a flop and Japan hated it because there was no Zeon? Shameful if true. Zeon sucks and Crossbone Vanguard were really more interesting
>>
Probably. God forbid you do something new in Japan. They hate that. The nail that sticks out the most...
>>
>>23965849
Possible. Japs hate change.
That's why all Nintendo games are rehashes
>>
>>23965849
Zeon feel relevant as a social criticique of extreme nationalism.
The Crossbone Vanguard criticise... 19th century aristocracy? Who cares? It would have been good social commentary in 1848, but who was out there shilling for an aristocratic government in 1991?
>>
>>23965849
Without denying the truth that the Japanese are a bunch of retarded, obsessively devoted to Zeon, F91 also had the sin of being a bit too boring as a film. Beautifully animated, but not exactly interesting.

That said, it's a shame it wasn't developed.
>>
>>23965849
UCfags are sort of like genwunners of Gundam.
>>
>>23966129
Japanese writers didn't know how to write an expy for the Soviet Union without being sympathetic to communism
>>
>>23966104
Meanwhile in the US and Europe the best selling games are FIFA,Madden and CoD.
>>
>>23966145
That's because normies love brain rod violence and sports. It has nothing to do with westerners disliking change.

Japs are notorious for hating change. If you are outside the norm you are a freak. The nail that sticks out the most . . .
>>
>>23966031
Americans will say this and their industry relies solely on remakes, endless sequels and the same actors in every single movie.
>>
>>23965849
I only remember Crossbone Vanguard for having cool looking Zaku clones with the most pretentious sounding names ever
>>
>>23966222
>remakes
Resident Evil, Japanese
>endless sequels
Ys, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Trails, Tales, and many other Japanese series
>same actors
Similarly Japs are obsessed with voice actors, that if a favorite character got a new VA they hate it.

Fuck Americans, but Japs are equally autistic

0083 was released as a OVA the same year as F91, and gundam fans preferred 0083 by far.

The other thing that pissed people off about F91 was the gunpla. For F91 they shrunk the height of mobile suits to about 15 meters, so when the F91 gunpla came out, they were all listed on the box as 1/100 scale, so modelers were expecting kits as big as the 1/100 gundam kits in the 1980s, but the F91 kits were more like 1/144 scale kits in size, and modelers were like WTF!
>>
>>23965849
F91 is a visual treat. They should of redone F91 (as a series) and started Crossbone instead of wasting time and money and effort on Unicorn, Narrative and Hathaway.
>>
>>23965849
The colony invasion at the beginning was pretty good at least. The pacing was rushed afterwards though, and it's telling that F91 was originally envisioned as a proper series instead of a movie. Overall I don't think it was bad, just wasted potential.
>>
>>23966316
Hathaway's decent so far.
>>
>>23966294
Very disingenuous post.
>>
>>23966294
Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Tales are franchises but not sequels. The main entries have their own continuities and little to do with each other outside of perhaps some lore from a guidebook somewhere.
>>
Late UC is a massive flop unless they retcon Zeon into being more than a bunch of hermits hiding on Mars
>>
F91 was a flop because by the time F91 came around you had Gundam, Zeta, ZZ, and CCA building up the setting. F91 appears and wipes the slate clean with no explanation and wants you to care about the new setting in the span of 90 minutes with no explanation as to why things exist the way they do in that moment.
>>
>>23966411
Retard.
>>
>>23966411
F91 was made as a new generation Gundams after CCA concluded the original saga.
It was made to appeal and attract new fans.
>>23966393
>Late UC is a massive flop
Victory got 51 episodes airing, the longest Gundam show to date
>>
>>23965849
Yeah, in term of box office, F91 was a flop.

520 million yen in the box office, less than half of CCA (1.16 billion yen), and even CCA was bellow the freaking compilation movies of the original series (1st movie, 1.76 billion yen, Soldiers of Sorrow 1.38, Encounters in Space 2.31 billion).
>>
>>23966138
Yeah it's kinda hard to write the objective good guys as bad guys
>>
>>23965849
>Japan hated it because there was no Zeon?
Fans in general have the misbegotten idea that UC = Zeon when after Char and all the veterans have died off Spacnoids would've eventually started to make their own way. That's where Crossbone, Zanscare, JE, etc. come in.
>>
>>23966459
They did a good job with zeon.
>>
>>23966442
>F91 was made as a new generation Gundams after CCA concluded the original saga.
It was made to appeal and attract new fans.

Based on the F91 movie alone and with nothing else, tell me how Cosmo Babylon came about, and what the EFF was doing before F91. Mobile Suit Gundam even had an opening narration that told what was going on.
>>
>>23966442
bought by Bandai because F91 and Victory was such a flop
>>
>>23967003
This. Sunrise called F91 a fresh start, but it makes absolutely no sense big picture wise unless you know all about MSG-CCA. And even then there are gaping holes like how the Ronahs revived the concept of aristocratic government and seized power in the first place.
>>
Zeta also flopped and was considered bad by Gundam fans but /m/ shits themselves if you mention this
>>
>>23967090
I was surprised by this, reading Sentinel and the interviews in it being basically shit talking Zeta and how this is what it should've been. I'd have understood their stance better if Sentinel didn't stink.
>>
>>23967003
>what the EFF was doing before F91
There were Hathaway's Flash novels that covered this

>>23967029
>bought by Bandai
it already happened before Victory started airing. They are the ones who forced Tomino to change the order of the first 4 episodes

>>23967090
if true, why it's shilled by Banrise all the time, and became a mainstay in SRW games?
>>
>>23966222
Americans are derivative because we're lazy. The Japanese are derivative and think it's a point of honor to recycle their same "traditions."
>>
>F91 appears and wipes the slate clean with no explanation

Asking how F91 is related to zeon is like watching a post 911 film like hurt locker and asking how the story is related to saving private ryan.

CCA's near successful asteroid drop is UC equivalent of nuclear bombs bring dropped. Zeon as a faction and ideology pretty much ended right there within tomino's storyline with the both char and amuro dead.

People can't let this go says more about the audience than the production teams behind f91 and V.
>>
>30 years
>Double Fake manga
>Unicorn book and movies
>Narrative/Phoenix Hunt and movie
>Moon Gundam manga
>AoZ Reboot
These things making references to ZZ and the passage of time is what it took for Japanese to even start to think about caring about ZZ Gundam. UC Next 0100 or whatever it’s called seems to be trying the same thing, but with F91 this time. 10-15 years from now we might get a 30 minute animated short covering some side plot set during the Crossbone Vanguard wars and a gunpla kit..
>>
>>23966449
CCA over performed at the box office.

>Oguro: After you saw Char’s Counterattack, you went to talk with Tomino, right?
>Suzuki: I did. And here’s the thing, before it opened, the consensus among Sunrise executives, the folks at Shochiku, everyone, was that it wouldn’t be a hit. I can’t recall the exact figures, but their maximum forecast was something like 400 million yen in box office. Then it opened. After the first day, the projection shot up to somewhere between 650 and 700 million. Instantly, everyone was saying, “Well, of course it’s a hit, it’s Gundam.” And Tomino was furious when he heard that.

the original theatrical version of F91 is completely different from the home release we've all watched. It has tons and tons of animation errors and poor quality in it

which one

the original F91

Decent bit of yaranaika in that lower picture.

Not really.

CCA was the perfect ending point for UC Gundam and they should start exploring alternative timeline gundams

it is a shame that it took them F91/Victory flops and bankruptcy and being bought by Bandai to realize that

Huh. I never knew this was a thing. Very interesting. Got any more?
>>
>>23966129
More like the coming of self made techno aristocrats and feudal lords. Tomino is always ahead of the curve
>>
>>23968033
I disagree and I like both of those works more than CCA.
>>
>>23965849
So that's why they had to make Zeon return in F90 saga as Mars Zeon/Old Mobile, and every Crossbone manga had a character using Zaku for no good reason at all other than "remember Zaku from 0079?"
>>
>>23965849
story is it was supposed to be a feature length tv show, but it got cut into a movie. Story of a tv show got compressed into a single movie, and they had minimal time to fix it. This is the executive meddling that cause V-gundam to turn out so dark out of spite and depression.
>>
https://www.gundamunofficial.com/production/gundamf91.html

I found this site that detailed the production history of F91 from interviews and material from disc releases.
apparently F91 was going to be a TV series, but this turned into an Introduction movie for a TV show. The movie was supposed to be followed by a F91 TV show that continues the story of Seabok and Cecily, but then this was canceled.

and there was going to be a scene showing Seabok boarding a ship that takes him to where Cecily is. This entire scene was deleted, which is why Seabok suddenly teleported there without any explanation.

lots of great read and scrapped ideas here. I'm just sad that the TV sequel got canned like this. could saved F91

Is this why Mars Zeon became a thing in then manga? And even G Generation Eternal had to add Mars Zeon mechs to F91?
