Mytek The Mighty was a 60's British weekly comic strip that ran in the magazine Valiant, about a giant ape that appeared wholly organic from the outside but was indeed a robot, one that was semiautonomous but could also be directly piloted from inside. & it indeed fought several other giant robots & monsters. The earliest Giant robot I remember from western comic books was the Fourth Sleeper from Captain America.
The Fifth Sleeper's main armament was poison gas nozzles on its left arm. It also had a pincer claw and ray-beam.
