>And the furtive AGE-3, so easily forgotten...
>>
Great Value ZZ deserved better. Underslung weapons are underrated.

Fortress was cool. It was just Virtue that was also a Dom. More things should hover.

>Orbital doesn't even get more than one episode beyond the escape sequence
I will never not be mad.

I prefer its concept design.
>>

Kio would have been exceedingly more interesting as a character if he was a full on gung-ho battle maniac against Vagan. Flits very own Desil to sick on his mankinds enemies. Instead Kio is just a "nice" kid who pilots the Gundam until he has a further downgrade near the end.
>>
>>23988608
yeah, deserved to be in a better game and anime
>>
>>23988604

It existed for barely 10 whole episodes before the FX got unveiled. It barely had any influence or legacy whatsoever. Feel sort of awful for it.
>>
>>23988816
>Flit's very own Desil
Flit would hate himself and disapprove of Kio going that far. Remember, it's the Vagans that are inhuman monsters. His grandson is destined to be a savior, not a rabid dog.
>>
>>23988816
Kio is the best character in AGE
>>
>>23989095
>Flit would hate himself and disapprove of Kio going that far.

Yeah that's why it would have been interesting. A sort of HOLY HELL WHAT HAVE I BECOME. A real cap to the idea that he lived his life for vengeance.
>>
>>23989101
Honestly it's another reason why I wish they didn't just bump Shanalua off. She should have been the one to kidnap Kio and take him to Vagan. Even better make her the big sis to Deen and Lu.
>>
>>23988604
I liked it better than its replacement.
>>
>>23988604
cool. too bad about the pilot.
>>
>>23988807
oh, that's not too bad.

>>23988604
One of the biggest jobber Gundams in the franchise.

please name another gundam we saw glassing a whole fucking desert
>>

AGE-3 is the original version of aerial but no one watched it so no one knows aerial is a mtf tranny. Explains why the pilot also happens to be a lesbian.
>>
Man i loved the sleek, angular designs of AGE.
I really wish CG wasn't enticing Mecha designers to go crazy with greebles and panel separation now.
>>
>>23998512
it's not enticing them as some fresh new thing, it's letting them do what they always wanted to do. Whether having that restriction on art is good or not is a matter of opinion.
>>
>>23998208
X?
>>
>>23998516
Naw, it's 100% them being enticed. But it's not being enticed because of 3d, it's being enticed because the execs saw that's how the chinese do models and they want that sweet chang money.
>>
>>23998516
I don't know about that. I think a lot of mecha designers with actual mechanical backgrounds understand things like designing for assembly, avoiding superfulous points of failure and how more complex surfaces are less likely allow armor to deflect blows.
>>
>>23998731
> I think a lot of mecha designers with actual mechanical backgrounds understand things
I think there's fewer of those than there once were.
>>
>>23998731
which is why when Okawara and Katoki draw mecha for mooks and so on they have a hundred times more details
>>
>>23998512
It'll likely continue until Rogue Orbit flops.

They also understand these are fictional toy robots and none of that shit matters so long as it looks plausible enough and/or cool. Kawamori is on record saying him and all of Studio Nue originally thought the Gundam looked stupid and would've been better if Yasuhiko went with something similar to their Starship Troopers Power Armor design, but today realized that Gundam's longevity can be attributed to how it can straddle the line between being a superhero and a tacticool machine.
>I feel like I've become more careful with the word "real" ever since. Macross is merely "realistic," but not realistic. No one would do aerial combat like that these days, but they do it because it's presented as a simulator that prioritizes exhilaration.
>It's similar to how Japan during the Pacific War, despite knowing it had the advantage in air power, reverted to its principle of large ships and big guns and built the Yamato battleship, which ended in failure. The powered suits designed by Miyatake and his team were gradually repurposed into mobile suits, but it's creepy how designs that were altered for the sake of being made into toys can, over time, be mistaken for mainstream realism.
>I think it was around my first or second year of college. My friends and I were saying, "There's no way Gundam is realistic. But robot wrestling is so good at pretending to be war, and that's interesting. So why not?" It's fascinating to see giant bipedal robots, which aren't even remotely realistic as weapons, fighting battles reminiscent of the Sengoku period, using tactics older than World War I. If you don't use the word "realistic," the show's appeal is overwhelming. Something went wrong somewhere, and a certain percentage of mecha fans were fooled into thinking it was real.

But that shit literally makes mechanical designs look cool.

The point isn't striving for realism, it's coming the conclusion that there's a great deal of overlap between something being mechanically sound and aesthetically pleasing, especially in the world of plamo where you don't have to worry about something physically working at full scale, but it's great to have working gimmicks and articulation while still achieving a pleasing shape.

So greeble/detailfags are actually anti-realismfags? I always assumed it was the opposite.

I don't think I've ever seen a single person point-blank declaring gundam real, that it totally would work and they expect them to be rolling out of the factories any day now. Unless it was purely tongue in cheek or outright trolling. Full blown santa claus belief in 18 meter tall giant guys fighting with swords.

Now there's people who will defend certain aspects, but that's just regular nerd talk. It's fun to talk about minovsky particles or what it would look like if dodging missiles somehow became more effective than countermeasures, or whatever. There's probably at least a few thousand totally deluded guys who really truly believe that the gundam statue was going to get up and go to battle, but is someone at that level really worth considering, and is it really a certain percentage?
>>23999542
It's more like it's literally surface level.

I remember AGE-3 mostly because Orbital being a failure to point that in the moment it was pretty comical. Fortress was neat though.
