I can't think of any other voice actor who's performance actually improved with age. Listen to him in the Cybertron games and the sense of authority and wisdom aand weariness is palpable. It feels like a wild west sheriff combined with King Arthur. I don't think we'll ever again hear the like of it.

In G1, for all his talk about not just being a standard hero that's kind of what Optimus was. He was older and more softspoken and polite than average but at the end of the day he was there to save the day and hopefully one day end the war. In later continuities, or at least the ones where Prime is played by Cullen there's no real saving the day Cybertron is already lost and Prime just has to kind of deal with that.

Meanwhile Bumbleebee's VA literally sounded like he hadn't aged a day in 40 years, while sadly Michael Bell sounded pretty old and weak.

How would you have done the film? I would have framed it from the perspective of how a father would feel leaving his family behind. Are they ready? Can they get by without me? And then Primus or whatever shows him a montage of the conflict that came before the great war, and all the conflicts that will come afterward, obviously being all the various decepticon leaders and factions that will come about, showing the battle never ends. And then Primus shows him all the heroes who will rise up in his stead, guys like Chromedome, Spike becoming Fortress Maximus, Ginrai, Star Saber, Dai Atlas, The beast convoys, and finally Unicron and the silohuette of Rodimus Prime about to open the Matrix, and then Optimus passes on knowing that he paved the path for them to follow, confident they can go on without him. Then as he transforms into a truck and drives off into robot heaven, a short montage of Optimus Prime's life with moments we never saw in the show, like officiating Spike and Carly's wedding, going fishing with Daniel, and Hotrod, having a drink with Kup and Ironhide, before driving into the light.

In the original movie he had it under control until Hot Rod gave Megatron an opening. The whole short also just feels like a crappy extension of Prime's farewell in the movie, which was fine as is.

Hasbro pretty much told me to fuck off with this "we are sorry for the mistakes" marketing.As a small kid I grew up with the 1986 movie on VHS and no access to the original series.I loved the movie, and it was my base transformers I compared anything else I saw to. Only thing that came close was the zombie arc of the UK comic, the tv shows didn't stand a chance when I did finally see a bit of them.
