I can't think of any other voice actor who's performance actually improved with age. Listen to him in the Cybertron games and the sense of authority and wisdom aand weariness is palpable. It feels like a wild west sheriff combined with King Arthur. I don't think we'll ever again hear the like of it.

In G1, for all his talk about not just being a standard hero that's kind of what Optimus was. He was older and more softspoken and polite than average but at the end of the day he was there to save the day and hopefully one day end the war. In later continuities, or at least the ones where Prime is played by Cullen there's no real saving the day Cybertron is already lost and Prime just has to kind of deal with that.

Devastation Megatron is equally great, he's G1 Megatron but with some depth to him, probably Welker's best performance as the character. Cullen had a few hiccups but not many while Welker not only did the old G1 style Megatron almost perfectly but also all his old character (his Skywarp was a little off but I think that's just because he forgot how to do the voice rather than age). Meanwhile Bumbleebee's VA literally sounded like he hadn't aged a day in 40 years, while sadly Michael Bell sounded pretty old and weak.

The cybertronians, as humans are never mentioned, presumably outlive the human species in a time of peace lmao. Having antagonists with sad circumstances around them being antagonists is fine, even in stories where they are doing vile, evil things, but you cannot forget that that does not mean they are excused from taking responsibility for said actions, nor that the protagonists are wrong for opposing them and their actions.
