>>24000835I'll politely disagree on all of those points.Characters come off as flat at first, but they gain a lot of depth as the story goes on. For instance, Kyo has a good arc as he comes to understand that life, even if its digital, is irreplaceable. Kaminagi has a more carefree approach to all of those questions until he gets hit with her encounter with the antizega. And Shizuno has a lot of subtleties in an arc that is both tragic as she loses her memories, but is also hopeful since she has the chance to move forward. Even the side characters have something to say, pondering if the idea of staying in the virtual world is that bad. The dialogue is serviceable, moving the story along in a way that feels natural. I can't recall any tominospeak or similarly weird dialogues. For instance, the ‘My pain, never to be erased. My memories, never to be forgotten’ more than just a chuuni line to hype you for the next episode, becomes relevant at the end precisely because they reject naga, erasing the core concept that makes them human, the pain of losing what’s irreplaceable. Character design is admittedly on the bland side, but I find that both the Zegas and AntiZegas are fairly unique, with the they have armors and weapons made of light. It works fairly well with the 3D.The plot is far from generic. Saying it's just 'The Matrix with robots' is grossly reductionist and does not represent how far the show runs with the concept, and this is delivered in a wonderful way, baiting and switching with the early chapters, fooling you into thinking it is something, well, generic with all the stereotypical scenes.And lastly, the music is serviceable. And both the openings and all the endings are great. And some tracks like Cestree, or the one that plays when they fight in a field of flowers, are great and perfectly fit the mood of their respective scenes. The only real aspect would be the fairly low budget. And then, I think it did the best it could with what it had.
