That's just rubbing salt in the wound.I can't call it the worst Reiwa show because it's not as offensively bad as they can get, but it's the worst one we've had in quite a while. At least the last two shows, with how bad they could get, still had characters I cared about. I just couldn't wait for this show to be over.Funnily enough the show right next to this one seems to be very focused on strong character relationships, which is exactly what I need after a year of Baku fixing everything and everyone else just being in awe at how cool he was.

While there were only 4 episodes I straight up didn't like, the story as a whole is really wonky and aside from Baku there really isn't any character I really like despite Nox being the only one I really hate and there being 3 and the Gore nightmares being just OK.

The fight with Oblivion was serviceable, and ironically the worst part of the episode for me. And it's a tried and true rider kick with a final form version of the first suit. Complimented by the triple rider kick that preceded it. TBD what his actual status is, but it's looking good. And I loved that Nem is having routine dream trips with still-blind The Lady. Everyone really got the ending they deserved. Even Nox, resigned to an existence of monotony that matches his vagueposting of yore.Kamen Rider Zeztz is a 7/10. It has everything going for it, the concept, the style, the characters, the music. Aesthetically, 10/10 toku. It drops the ball with halfassing the plot and delegating characters to the sidelines when they're just wasting time in its place. THERE. ARE. SO. MANY. areas of alternate writing, or just plain change of focus that would improve this show's flawed areas immensely. Different decisions need to be made as far as character direction, plot focus, and overall setpiece implementation is handled from here on. But for what it showcased, it had a style and hook that kept me liking it. Its spy edge is its saving grace.

Some of the fights were cool and the suit designs grew on me but the character work was pretty lacking and especially not helped by all the resets. The other two riders are massive jobbers that get their character development speedran at best. Basically everyone that isn't Baku or Nem [or connected to them directly by blood] feels like an afterthought These last two episodes focused a lot on the power of friendship but with characters who only sometimes share substantial scenes. . It's also kind of jarring that Sieg doesn't have an upgraded suit, especially when he's standing right next to Midnight Shadow and Exdream. There's some good things in here but also a lot of wasted potential, particularly in the Code Somnia arc, which also funnily enough, happens to be the most invested I was in the show. I'm watching Faiz at the moment and that has its flaws as well but I feel more invested in those characters and their factions than I do in the show that was pitched as partially being about spy shenanigans. Honestly, the dream theme is kinda undercooked sometimes too because it's not as trippy as I was hoping for. Especially early on, the "dream world" just looks indistinguishable from the real one. Maybe they should've thrown a filter over it or something

Hanto was also never quite handled in a satisfying way outside of Frappé's debut arc despite his relationship with the others being great, Rakia's revenge arc was needlessly stretched out with extremely obvious red herrings because they didn't want to off Glotta until the end, Shouma's uncle was wasted potential that didn't get a proper resolution since he's still waiting for Shouma to open up about the truth, and I also hated all the baiting around Dente's death only for him to end up being killed by Glotta of all people.

It's no Gavv, but I really enjoyed the episodic opening cour and the balls they had to pull the premonition twist. There were some nice forms, they pulled off the chest belt IMO, and Dawn is up there as one of my fave tertiaries just for getting to see Tachibana san as a weirdo blonde mafia prince old dude. There was definitely plenty of muddling, Nox was a vagueposter and underutilized, and CODE was a weak antagonist. Once things shifted to the Nightmares as main antagonists it ended up being pretty strong, and the writing was nicely thematic. Also The Lady staying relevant like she did was a big plus in my eyes because her actress gave a kickass performance. Finale was everything one needs from a Rider finale.A solid 777/10.

Imai's voice acting was strong here. Sieg going wild in combat is the only thing that justifies his existence as a character to me. Nem helping out once more during the fight was good, although the scene where she grows giant was kinda jarring. Oblivion was kind of a lame final boss, he just felt like a nuisance more than anything. Heart of Impact being a homage to Ichigou's first suit is neat, but it was little more than a glorified finisher. It also felt somewhat unnecessary, it felt like Nox and Sieg just gave up after they saw that the Triple Rider Kick didn't kill Oblivion (even though he was looking worse for wear than them after it hit him) so that Baku could get the spotlight at the end.(1/?)

The characters didn't feel very affected by his disappearance just months later, except for Minami during two short moments. The slice of life scenes were comfy and the BBQ callback was neat, shame we didn't have many of those kinds of moments throughout the show. The dynamic between the cops and Odaka is solid, but this is literally the first and last time we'll get to see it in the show. Nox absolutely doesn't deserve a happy ending, especially since we see his retarded actions are still causing problems up to the very end. They also completely ignored the existence of Nem's adoptive father.The Paranormal Division still doesn't seem very useful, they pretty much just exist to inform Baku about Black Cases so he can go take care of the problem himself, and he also personally watches over several dreams at once in case a Nightmare pops up. That scene where Nasuka asked how the Division started only for Nox to say it would be too long of a story to tell felt like a slap in the face, this show just left so many loose ends. Also, we have Minami here grieving because she wishes she knew where Baku was while Nox casually rings him up like it's nothing.Baku forming his own organization to fight the Nightmares was something I was kinda expecting (it was either that or him reforming CODE) and I like how he emulates Zero by drinking tea at his desk. Eight as a character was kinda whatever since she wasn't introduced until this very episode, but I guess her little arc about leaving CODE was a neat way to cap off Baku and Nox's own character arcs while also showing us that there are still CODE remnants out there. I'm glad Sieg's very last scene in the show was him crying and whining because Nem left him bored and forgotten like he should be, fuck him.The handoff between Baku and Sora was awkwardly cute. (2/?)
