He said that the designs he submitted for the 6 troopers (including Ryusei) didn't change much and were kept pretty intact, bar some alterations here and there. Murota also said that he could've emulated Norio Shioyama's art style more, but was afraid he wouldn't have been picked due to not standing out enough, so he didn't in the end. He felt that simply using Shioyama's art style for the new gen characters would make them too formulaic and bland. Ryo was the only YST character whose adult design was done by him; the other 4 were done by chief animation director Tomoko Tanaka, with Murota supervising so their base designs didn't stray too far from the original.
