I don't understand how it still looks like ass all those decades later. DYRL in general is questionably blurry in some shots. How could they put that much effort in the animation but still fuck up the camera focus?

Because they made the movie in an inhumanly short amount of time so they couldn't go back and reshoot those cuts. It wasn't like the first two Gundam films that were largely recut from existing footage.
