I like 00 for the fact that the main guys win, clearly and decisively. Every goal CB set out to do was achieved. No to downer endings like a certain homo(Kamile), no to preserving status QUO. Dream of evolving beyond the Earth cradle. Clean W with actual good hopeful messaging if you're not a bitter cynical chud.
All I remember about this show is that I dropped it.
>>24026089Only S1 is good and the canon end.S2 and the movie are shit.
>hey guys remember THAT Gundam show?: the show
>>24026096we need to stop with this "s1 was good" cope both seasons were equally shallow
>>24026089It was weak in a lot of aspects, but you are right. If you want to watch a show that will make you feel better because the good guys win not some gray area crap, then it's your show. From the same period is Koetetsushin Jeeg. You might like that too. Oh yeah and Dankyu Maru Gaiking.
>>24026089Marathoning 00 is a different vibe compared to watching it weekly. Most episodes continue the story right where the previous episode left off. Especially in S2. So watching it all over a short period the show ends up feeling like a long movie compared to other shows that have lots of filler episodes and side adventures.
>>24026314S1 was peak Gundam.
>>24026089S1 was so good that I was considering the show even better than Zeta Gundam until S2 ruined it
>>24026089I still have fond memories of watching this when it was airing with /m/. Absolutely the most fun online interactions I've ever experienced. 00 will always have a place in my heart for that. Thank you, /m/ anons and namefags for those times.I love you.I trust you.
>>24029424Yeah watching 00 together was a /m/agical time.
>>24029435The Prince Ali song has supplanted the original in my memory.
>>24026096The only way people have this opinion still in 2026 is that they're parroting something they heard elsewhere online. On rewatches Season 2 is just so much stronger. The opening episodes where they're rebuilding CB are a million times better than the dry start of S1 which tapers off after like episode 3 and doesn't pick up until the thrones are introduced again. The finale of S2 is also up there as one of the best in the Gundam franchise.
It's the last Gundam show I was able to watch all the way through. The rest since then lost me less than halfway, some like WfM lost on the first episode, Gcucks lost me at the trailer.
>>24029976S2 is shit. It's Zeta but shit.
>>24029976>The opening episodes where they're rebuilding CB are a million times better than the dry start of S1 which tapers off after like episode 3 and doesn't pick up until the thrones are introduced again.S1 is just so much more unique with the worldwide focus on the impact of the protagonists. S2 quickly becomes just a standard Gundam drama. And that didn't even have enough time focus on its larger cast... which usually wouldn't be an issue, since obviously you'll have minor characters, but it just shows how this cast wasn't created for this story format.>The finale of S2 is also up there as one of the best in the Gundam franchise. It had a pretty great final battle, but there's a lot around that ending which is just kind of stupid, like the suicide mobile suits which are less of a problem than if they were actually fighting in Trans-am.
>>24026096>The movie is shot. This child right here hates Uncle Go. DP might not have done it, but the influence is everywhere.
>>24029435lol, that's my Ali fanart in that post.
>>24030054>This child right here hates Uncle Go. DP might not have done it, but the influence is everywhere. The fuck are you talking about?
>>24029976>The finale of S2 is also up there as one of the best in the Gundam franchise.I hate the fucking singing over 0 vs Exia so much.
>>24026314Actively untrueS1 built up character arcs for each meister, gave Graham an arc, Setsuna's life as a child soldier assassin was contrast with Saji's everyman audience insert dealing with the everyday fallout of Setsuna's actions, doing something Gundam hadn't done since 0080, which is showing a secondhand consequences to living in wartimeEvery character, whether it's Setsuna, Tieria, Allelujah, Saji, Saji's sister Sumeragi, Graham, Marida, they all have character arcs and growth as a result of Celestial Being's interventions. The political landscape is constantly in flux, Celestial being wins almost every battle, but they're constantly behind in terms of resources and information as the situation changesThen S2, Setsuna becomes Muh understanding, Muh GundamLockon is Muh Not The Real LockonAllelujah is MARIETieria is basically nothingMister Bushido fucking sucksSumeragi speedruns what's left of her S1 character arc in 2 episodes and then does nothing interestingSaji went from the everyman that the whole show's theme hangs on to just hanging around in the background being the most useless fucker, he gets to pilot the 00 Raiser just cause he's thereMarida just sings with kids and that's itThe political landscape is just 'The Titans are bad and run by Goolds let's stop them' and Celestial Being despite being decimated and having the entire world allied against them somehow has more resources than they did when they were a secret organization funded by a billionaire
>>24031274>Saji's everyman audience insert dealing with the everyday fallout of Setsuna's actionStop this horseshit. Saji is a potentially interesting idea executed in the worst possible manner.Unless your fucking show is precisely about that concept (think trashy iseakai/urban fantasy), an "everyman" isn't THIS level of absurdly "unlucky".
>>24026089I thought s2 ruined it with the not-newtype space magic shit. It’s just a worse version of gundam wing. Heero and Relena are better than their 00 counterparts.
>>24026314s1 has shallow characters, but that doesn't impact it much since there's a lot going in the world overall, so obviously none of the characters get that much focus.Part of the problem with the change of focus in s2 is exactly that the cast clearly weren't created for that more personal drama focused storytelling.
>>24026089Theres one thing I can say this shows suffers from is character design and artstyle. They're not bad but honestly feel bland in comparison with previous entries.
>>24026089This show screams soulless corporate product. If only Tomino and the idiots at sunrise didn't fumble late UC with F91 and Victory. We wouldn't have had to deal with these lame retreads of 0079 and Zeta.
>>24031400>VictoryDont want to hit below the belt but that was entirely Tominos fault. Dude should've handed off the writing to someone else while he was depressed.
>>24031417>depressedHe wasn't "depressed". He was just seething that he became the gundam guy so he tried to ruin the series.
>>24031419>He wasn't "depressed". He was just seething that he became the gundam guy so he tried to ruin the series. No, he was most definitely depressed.https://turnafeezy.wordpress.com/2021/03/28/the-history-and-production-of-turn-a-gundam-part-i-victory-gundam-battling-depression/

>>24031424>Cannot for the life of me remember Saji being under Katharon's protection. When did that happen?Season 2, episode 5.
>>24031424>NonsenseS1 was somewhat unique but the premise was retarded >le billionaire science man wanted people to understand each other so he made an AI that could easily be manipulated by the innovades he created>his big plan to stop war was to wage war on everyone else.S2 was a very poor Zeta imitation
>>24031400>>24031471Why does everything have to be a lame retread of 0079 and zeta? Why don’t they ever get some original ideas?
>>24031479Bandai and Sunrise really suck at managing the gundam franchise. UC eventually floundered because of their own incompetence so they went the route of creating AUs but they kept creating new AUs and took the lazy approach and lifted shit from 0079 and Zeta almost every time. Gundam has been lackluster for 26 years now
>>24031447Ah, thank you.>>24031471>>so he made an AI that could easily be manipulated by the innovades he created>easilyHe hid it pretty well, had an oversight council to keep things on track, and like four distinct failsafes. That some cunt fucks it up regardless is pretty core to the Foundation stories it's heavily inspired by. I'm sure if it had worked flawlessly you'd think it was much more retarded.>>his big plan to stop war was to wage war on everyone else. That has historically done a pretty decent job on multiple occasions - for a while.>S2 was a very poor Zeta imitationYeah, the structure was clearly cribbing from it and was probably pushed on it from above. That doesn't make it "soulless corporate product".
>>24031424It was in quotes because it's sarcasm. Saji was held at the Katharon base and not permitted to leave because it was a secret place that the Federation didn't know the location of.Surprise - Saji steals a jeep and drives away from the base, only to get caught by the Feds not long after because the Feds are searching the area for the hidden base. The Feds confirm his biometrics and realize that Saji was a laborer in a prison camp in space that went missing after the facility was attacked by Gundams. They realize he has to be from the hidden Katharon base because Saji doesn't have a good explanation for what he's doing there in the middle of the desert. Anyway, they analyze the jeep and knowing how much range it has, it narrows down the secret Katharon base's location to the point where they almost immediately find it and are able to massacre the people there just a couple of hours later.
>>24031486>the world unites and celestial being loses>keikaku doo->the world is now ruled by the titans Bravo
>>24031489Right, caught the sarcasm, didn't remember him having contact with Katharon at all. I think that episode's fallen entirely out of my memory. Appreciate the refresher.
>>24031274I was being inflammatory in that first post but getting serious all the issues in s2 that you mentioned just stem from things in s1>Setsuna becomes Muh understanding, Muh GundamSetsuna was like this in s1 too, they had him stop a civil war by "becoming a gundam", and the concept of equating a weapon like gundam with a peacekeeper was as stupid there as it is in s2>Lockon is Muh Not The Real Lockonthis is just the show holding onto the gundam team formula it was relying on in s1, it didnt actually set up a character in s1 to take his place which is why you get his identical twin brother>Allelujah is MARIEthis was the big reveal for his character in the finale of s1, of course he was gonna be obsessed with getting back to her in s2>Tieria is basically nothingtieras character is being obsessed with veda so after learning to warm up to setsuna and his other teammates there was nothing left for him>Sumeragi speedruns what's left of her S1 character arcsame pattern as in s1 where the meisters get the most focus>Bushido fucking suckshis main trait was trying to beat gundam, s2 proves his character had almost no depth beyond that>Sajiagain they didnt want to commit to breaking the gundam team dynamic so he ends up in the 00 raiser cuck chair>Marida just sings with kidsshe was always an accessory to setsunas arc, once setsunas arc in s1 was done the writers didnt know what to do with her>political landscape is just 'The Titans are bad and run by Goolds let's stop them'once you have all factions unite against CB of course theres not gonna be a source of internal political strife anymore>CB has more resources than they did when they were a secret organization funded by a billionairepresumably theyre running on fumes from past funds but this is again just maintaining the s1 status quo
>>24033053>once you have all factions unite against CB of course theres not gonna be a source of internal political strife anymoreNot that anon, but the entire world was split up until a couple of years ago, no way all former politicians/generals just all get completely in line under the new government instantly. This is really where you can tell s2's focus changed. You also get the show stopping showing the impact of Celestial Being's actions from a civilian point of view, which goes alongside the refocus into a character drama (and I do agree here the characters just didn't have that much to them... because they weren't created for a character focused drama in the first place).
>>24033053You're blaming S1 for the writers in S2 not knowing what to do after it endedBut that's the point of writers is coming up with new stuff for the characters to doS2 could have thrown more wrenches into the works, given characters more things to do. They didn't. They relied entirely on plot points from S1 that had either already played out or gotten stale. Marie was a setup twist at the end of S1. S2 ddin't do anything interesting with her, Allelujah just yells her name every single chance he gets until he does the classic mecha 'crashes on an island with a female enemy combatant and they fall in love' trope. It's nothing new, nothing inventive. S1 Setsuna went from an unfeeling edgelord who only cares about the ends over the means to someone who cares about collateral damage, empathizes with Saji, looks out for his comrades. No one has that kind of growth in S2, even though it has the same amount of episodes, same chance to set things up, instead it wastes screentime on exposition we already know and useless dead air spinning its wheels
>>24033053Why was marina such a shit character? It’s kind of disappointing because I thought she would be a good waifu but the sing with kids shit is cliched and boring
>>24033084Not him, but I think marina's number one problem is that marina is the series designated peace princess in a series that doesn't need one. The problem with a peace princess is you'd better have a role for them throughout. Marina really doesn't have a major role to play. Setsuna is not a character that was built around having a romantic relationship to humanize him, so she's shit out of luck there. The Union, AEU, and HRL could give a fuck about her mideast backwater, so the larger setting has no use for her. All she has is a minor role. If you compare her with the other two major peace princesses at the time Relena and Lacus you can really see how lacking she is. Wing uses Relena as a political device (Romefeller making her Queen Relena) and a love interest for Heero. Lacus, for as much as I want to shit how it's done, is a character both seed and destiny make use of to the point she leads a major faction. Marina's function in the story is just way less important.Being serious, I think she's less interesting then Anew who was the series' take on a Lalah or Four tragic love interest. That's in spite of Marina having been around a lot longer in the show.
>>24026089It was the last good gundam show as far as im concerned
The endless worship of Aeolia Schenberg and his meticulous planning and control over the world many years after his death has always infuriated me about 00 and renders any good things that happen virtually pointless. It feels less like people are actually fighting for a better world and instead they're just pawns in his scheme, and him having Xanatos-tier planning, able to account for every possibility and every contingency, where every development seems to factor into his schemes, just renders everyone else's agencies moot. And the series follows it to a T. He's practically Jesus. It's so fucking maddening.
>>24033386>The endless worship of Aeolia Schenberg and his meticulous planning and control over the world many years after his death>And the series follows it to a T. He's practically Jesus.Jeez, it's almost like this is the exact point. Like the show is trying to draw parallels between Celestial Being's devotion to Aeolia's plan and the way real world terrorists andcult groups follow religious indoctrination.Aeolia is supposed to be like an Abrahamic prophet. Celestial Being is a religious organization that follows his prophecies. 00 is very explicitly about religious extremism, the show literally opens up on Setsuna losing faith in Islam before a mechanical angel descends from the heavens and saves him, causing Setsuna to replace his faith in God with Gundam. many of the Gundams have names derived from religious terminology. This is quite literally the point and I don't know how they could make it any clearer.
>>24033053>>24031274>Tieria is basically nothing>tieras character is being obsessed with veda so after learning to warm up to setsuna and his other teammates there was nothing left for himTieria probably has the second most interesting character behind Setsuna. 00's main thread is about people using religions as an excuse to enact their own goals. We see this with Ali Al Sachez in the very first scene of the show, Alejandro Corner's attempt at taking over CB, Graham's use of Bhuddism to deal with his shame, and ultimately Ribbons. Tieria's main struggle is about learning to understand and accept his role in his "God's" grand design. It's a story about faith. He begins to lose it in S1 when it's revealed there are others with higher access to Veda than him and he loses his connection to Veda. In S2 he's tempted by Ribbons and the Innovades. It's a very biblical kind of trial narrative. Ultimately he rows by having a less rigid interpretation of the CB doctrine while also accepting his role in Aeolia's Plan and ushers in the coming of the true Messiah, Setsuna. I think they could've done a lot more with him, but saying they did nothing is a massively incorrect write-off of his character. He's one of the most relevant to 00's religious messaging.
>>24033826>he>him>hisStop doing this shit with Tieria. Character has "it" pronouns, as a genderless robot.
>>24033830Actually, he's not a robot, he's a biomechanical organism. He possesses Human DNA, as all Innovades do, as part of their makeup was from Human donors from between "now" and when the show takes place. They're cyborgs, but on a much more intricate level as the parts where biology meets machine is on the microscopic level, rather than just attaching pistons, gears and wires onto flesh.
>>24033920Then they're just artificially created humans rather than cyborgs in the general sense. They can interface with Veda and other computer systems but rather than having a electronic data interface, it's a mental one via quantum brainwaves. It doesn't seem accurate to call them organic cyborgs. Lichty was a proper cyborg, where a large part of his body was replaced with mechanical parts due to injury from war, I think.
>>24033931>Then they're just artificially created humans rather than cyborgs in the general senseClones, almost. But no, they are cyborgs. Not like lichty, but they do have the mechanical to their makeup. That's why I said it's on the microscopic level. Innovades are teeming with nanomachines that are as much apart of them as the human DNA they were sourced from.>They can interface with Veda and other computer systems but rather than having a electronic data interface, it's a mental one via quantum brainwavesThat's part of where the nanomachines come in. That's what enables them to do that.
>>24029976As a first time viewer I felt the same. The middle of S1 was a drag and made me drop the show for several months. Meanwhile S2 was way better paced.
>>24033830Wrong, Tumblrina. Combat Innovades have “-“ sex, but in terms of gender Tieria identifies as male and is identified as male by the people around him. - Uses a masculine pronouns (ore and then boku). - Tells Ribbons “Everyone knows the meisters are male (otoko)”- Linda uses a male noun for Tieria after Milena confesses (“Congratulations on your new boyfriend (kareshi).”
>>24034184>Uses a masculine pronouns (ore and then boku). You forgot when he went to watashi faggot. Also ore and boku are used by women all the time.
>>24034283Ooooh watch out we got a JLPT N1 over here fellas. Be careful that you're using the right keigo.
>Our lord's year of 2026>retards still arguing about 00 S2 and movie and missing the pointBan all children and manchildren from the Internet
>>24033813>This is quite literally the point and I don't know how they could make it any clearer. It's not the point though since it the end the movie tries to justify Aeolia's plan as bringing about true salvation to humanity.
>>24033830More like a AI than a robot considering his existence isn't dependent on a physical form.
>>24029435suck his Japanese VA died. Did so many good badguy roles and yet some shitbirds only want him to be remembered as Ardyn, the lamest FF "badguy" who had his own backstory retconned in his own DLC
>>24034349Aeolia's plan is correct, within the narrative of 00 he functions as "God" or at least as a prophet of God. CB are his messengers. The conflict is a sectarian holy war. Setsuna's group are extremists, like many others in 00, but CB are following the "true" interpretation of Aeolia's divine plan which makes them just in their extremism in the eyes of the narrative. But the parallel still exists between them an their enemies. They're just doing it the right way.
>>24031479>Why does everything have to be a lame retread of 0079 and zeta? Why don’t they ever get some original ideas? After Season 1, Bandai told the Director and writers to make it more "traditional" and more like last Gundams. Bandai was afraid of incorporating geopolitics and offending people. Especially Setsunas background as a middle eastern person. It's also why they changed the Gundam Unicorn novel plot of the Muslim family piloting the mobile armor. Bandai was afraid of backlash from violence.
>>24038586They should've never made those changes. Especially looking at the state of the world today. There was a broad effort in the 00s to avoid criticizing islam due to "islamophobia", and now we're paying for it. Unicorn and 00 being more honest about these things would've helped them better stand the test of time.
