Given the state of how 2D mecha os being handled from Sunrise, I’d personally love to see Sentinel done by the animation team that did IGLOO. The character designs lend themselves to that style as well.
>>
>>24027315
Ignoring the rights issue, I just don't think it's that good of story, most of the characters are pretty flat and Zeta/ZZ timeline just isn't as interesting compared to the vast blank canvas of potential that is post-CCA world..

Funny enough it was supposed to have had like a 3 or 2 minute animation promo back in the late 80s to promote the sentinel book but ended up not being made, possibly as a result of complications but even so it proves it wasn’t meant to be fully animated to begin with

The story also doesn't make much sense either. It's set immediately after the end of Zeta right? The Federation literally doesn't have the resources to assemble a large fleet during that time. Let alone build a brand new Gundam.

The Federation itself was still largely divided between Anti-Titans and Pro-Titans soldiers. And most of the Federation resources was used up during the final battles between AEUG/Karaba VS the Federation/Titans. Their entire military and leadership has been shattered. During this time, The Federation should be assessing the damage and trying to keep the government from falling apart.

The Federation couldn't assemble a large fleet with brand new Gundams and mobiles suits to fight.
>>

You know why.

Not really after Zeta. Just after Casval/Char's Dakar Speech.

In the original series they were reduced to sticking cannons on top of space pods because they were that desperate for resources, but now it seems like every second mobile suit is a donut steel prototype Gundam. It doesn’t make sense but toy commercial gotta toy commercial.
>>
>>24038715
The Titans would never allow the Federation to amass such a fleet. The Titans requisitioned most of the Federation's assets including Jaburo. Anything leftover was stolen by the AEUG. It was a pure civil war.
>>
a Sentinel anime would have to have no compromises in the animation when it came to the MS designs. Fully detailed. They did a pretty good job with Hathaway of keeping all the details.

Even though it never got farther than the planning stage in the Sentinel story, I would totally be happy with seeing the Deep Striker built and involved in combat in the Sentinel anime.
>>
I like the setting, some of the overarching story and combat, but the characters and especially alice just fucking suck. New desides are fun but the whole cheshire cat thing is just bizarre. Alice is shockingly un-interactive and doesn't really do anything outside of being an I win button. The protagonist is a mongoloid and this is actually necessary for the story to work. He's not even always that bad, it's like he's condemned to it by the narrative. He simply has to be angry pee-pants retardo or the story doesn't work.

It's especially bizarre with how often this is talked up as the hardcore real military science fiction gundam, and it's about a computer you have to unknowingly date into becoming sentient. And you can't notice this or uhhh.... it doesn't work?
>>

I love the sentinel world and aesthetic sense.

>The Federation literally doesn't have the resources to assemble a large fleet during that time
The Titans don't commandeer any of the "main" Federation fleets. It's mainly asteroid base garrisons and boonies. Besides New Dessides, which is mainly from Pezun's instructor corps and isn't mentioned in Zeta, and the smaller Moon orbit fleet that helps Taskforce Alpha, the main fleets in Sentinel were all divided up from the Federation's main earth orbital defense fleet. The same one as the big fleet from the end of Stardust Memories.

>And most of the Federation resources was used up during the final battles between AEUG/Karaba VS the Federation/Titans
They throw together a fleet for ZZ just fine, they just don't want to deploy the resources until the end. The GM IIIs didn't appear out of the aether. The Federation is always listed as the manufacturer and even the old B-Club articles mention several hundreds, like 800, being made. And a good chunk if not most were actually newly produced. The total MS count in Sentinel is probably something like 300 across all combatants (excluding Axis since they didn't really do anything, but did provide some suits).

>The Federation should be assessing the damage and trying to keep the government from falling apart.
The government is the general assembly, not the military anyway.

>The Federation couldn't assemble a large fleet with brand new Gundams and mobiles suits to fight.
There's nothing that indicates this. The Federation in ZZ is willfully negligent, not militarily exhausted. We don't even see the Titans really commandeer any colony fleets, like the kind mentioned in Char's Counterattack. Even the exhausted AEUG is able to commission the ZZ and upgrades, the Mega Rider, replacement parts for the Hyaku Shiki, and the Nahel Argama. The Federation is much better off, and they throw together a big fleet at the end of ZZ.

>The Titans don't commandeer any of the "main" Federation fleets. It's mainly asteroid base garrisons and boonies
The databooks say all the main Federation bases were under Titans control. Jaburo, Luna 2, Solomon, ABQ (renamed Gate of Zedan), etc. The Federation military was literally hollowed out and given to the Titans. The regular Federation military was well on their way to becoming 100% Titans.

>They throw together a fleet for ZZ just fine
At the END after 48 episodes, and it's mostly a bunch of leftover retired ships they could scrounge together and some hastily converted GM IIIs.

>The Federation in ZZ is willfully negligent, not militarily exhausted.
They were quite literally exhausted after the Gryps war and it's the main reason Neo Zeon could take over as much as they did.
>>
>>24041302
>The Federation military was literally hollowed out and given to the Titans
No the Titans were given the full authority over the Federation forces, that doesn't mean they used all of those nor that they were converted into Titans. The Titans remained their own elite group. Bask also says 50% of the federation supports the AEUG but both sides stay fairly small in actual practice. Most of the military wasn't actively fighting.

>Jaburo
It stopped being relevant towards the end of the OYW. They even stopped making GMs there.

>Luna 2
Stopped being relevant during the OYW.

>Solomon and ABQ
They were never relevant. Moreso because the retcons to the Hizack that shifted the production of the Hizacks to Anaheim Electronics. Old profiles suggested the Federation made hizacks at captured zeon facilities but that changed so now they only made like the Barzam.

>At the END after 48 episodes
And you think they were secretly rebuilding the entire time? They could've done that at any point they wanted.

>leftover retired ships they could scrounge together
They're the same gryps-era Salamis kai designs. And some sources describe the fleet as huge or massive, like in UC Engage's OC girl's story.

>hastily converted GM IIIs
Most GM IIIs were newly made. They were upgraded in the sense GM IIIs reused GM II supply chains and parts as much as possible, in contrast to the Nouvel GM III which was a wholly new design with new parts. The HGUC profile, and older databooks, specifically point out retrofitted conversions were only done in emergencies.

>They were quite literally exhausted after the Gryps war and it's the main reason Neo Zeon could take over as much as they did.
No they weren't. 800 GM IIIs, most of them newly made, in under a year of the end of the Gryps conflict, isn't an exhausted military. The GM IIIs and even Nouvel GM IIIs were rolled out around the turn of the year. The Federation had an army the entire time they just didn't want to help earthnoids
>>
>>24041791
>Most GM IIIs were newly made.
GM IIIs are not brand new suits. They are conversions of GM IIs.
>>
>>24042023
No they're not. Most sources barely even mention the possibility of a retrofit but the ones that do dispel the notion it was a large number. The HGUC manual specifically downplays conversions being a thing. Master Archive suggests the 800 number is JUST the newly manufactured GM IIIs, and the project merely started out with the intention of conversion. Also, the source for the original claim that GM IIs were retrofitted into GM IIIs IS from Sentinel, namely the Gundam Wars III edition, the same story you're disputing. It's part of the Nouvel GM III's profile to make the GM IIIs in Sentinel look special compared to the ones in ZZ. And all it says is that the specs of the GM III make it possible to retrofit GM IIs to GM IIIs. It doesn't even say that all newly manufactured GM IIIs are Nouvels, either, it specifically points out Nouvel GM IIIs are newly designed.
>>
>>24042083
The other Anon is probably confusing them with the GM II, which was a cheap retrofit from OYW-era stocks.
>>
>>24042083
You are arguing two different things. Other anon is saying GM III is just a converted GM II. You are saying it's brand new. It depends on what you define as "new". The Federation modified the existing GM II designs with additional parts. The core frame is still a GM II but heavily modified. Even if the factory is making 'fresh' GM IIIs, the core frame is still an existing design. Like how the Russians still use the T-90 series tanks which are still modified T-72 series tanks at their core. Just heavily modified with additional parts. Some fans say it's a new tank. Other say it's an upgraded T-72. Depends on how you define it.
>>
>>24041791
>much as they did.
>No they weren't. 800 GM IIIs, most of them newly made, in under a year of the end of the Gryps conflict, isn't an exhausted military.
The Federation made them that quickly because they had EXISTING old stocks of GM IIs they could upgrade. And even then the GM IIIs could only show up in force at the end of the anime.

You think the Federation wanted the GM III and that it was a great suit? Hell no. It's the best they could make with their limited budget and existing technology. The Nemo was a better suit, but too expensive for the Federation to mass produce in large quantities, and Anaheim Electronics wasn't going to help pay the bill anymore since they only cared about defeating the Titans. And the Titans were mostly gone now. I'm sure the Feds would have mass produced the Barzam if they could but the suit was tainted by the Titans
>>
>>24042131
>The Nemo was a better suit, but too expensive for the Federation to mass produce in large quantities
That was an AEUG/Anaheim unit, not suitable for mainline use due to political reasons.
>>
>>24042131
>The Federation made them that quickly because they had EXISTING old stocks of GM IIs they could upgrade
For one make up your mind. Was the Federation exhausted, or did they just have 800 GM IIs, and more because we see GM IIs in other shows, just laying around?

And no, they didn't. The GM IIIs used by the main fleets in Sentinel are generally understood to all be nouvel types. The conversion lore, which you're mostly making up, ORIGINATES from Sentinel. You either take Sentinel and its lore contributions seriously or you don't, you don't get to pick and choose and then make up stuff about the lore from the story you're claiming shouldn't be possible. Because the Sunrise profile for the GM III is just that it's a Karaba and EFF mass produced MS.

>You think the Federation wanted the GM III and that it was a great suit? Hell no
Yes, it's literally considered to be a mass produced Mk-II, a suit that was still holding up great in ZZ. It even has some Gundarium armoring, making it marginally tougher in theory. And it has multiple supply chains making parts easy to source. And the Nemo being better is something that's up in the air. Some GM III profiles describe it as aging, or suggest the GM III at the time it was introduced was the most maneuverable mass produced suit around, being designed with knowhow from the Mk-II, Nemo, and Barzam data.

>Anaheim Electronics wasn't going to help pay the bill anymore
Sources like Fact File 31 literally say it was co-developed by Anaheim Electronics and Karaba.

>>24042125
No, I already explained that possibility here >>24041791
>They were upgraded in the sense GM IIIs reused GM II supply chains and parts as much as possible, in contrast to the Nouvel GM III which was a wholly new design with new parts.

>>
>>24042145
>Was the Federation exhausted,
Yes

>or did they just have 800 GM IIs
It's both. 800 old ass outdated GM IIs is not impressive. They were called outdated garbage in episode 1 of Zeta.

Federation used to be able to pump out many thousands of mobile suits during their peak. Now they are barely scrapping together 800 old ass suits and upgrading them with budget parts to save money.

>even has some Gundarium armoring,
No.

You are confusing it with the Nemo which is fully built out of Gundarium. Which is why it's better than the GM III

>most maneuverable mass produced suit around, being designed with knowhow from the Mk-II, Nemo, and Barzam data.
If it was so good then why was it quickly replaced by the Jegan only a few years later? The shortest lasting of all GMs. What a disappointment
>>
>>24042196
>Yes
No, it wasn't. The bulk of the Federation did not participate in the smaller post-OYW conflicts, including Gryps (essentially an intra-Federation civil war) and either Neo Zeon rebellion.

>Federation used to be able to pump out many thousands of mobile suits during their peak.
Under a total war economy. Are you going to complain about the number of airframes built today compared to WWII?

>Now they are barely scrapping together 800 old ass suits and upgrading them with budget parts to save money.
Old or not, 800 units is not a pittance by any means, especially if you're not facing anything compared to a peer industrial power like it was during the OYW.
You do understand the concept of "the army you have...", right?
>>
>>24042207
>No, it wasn't. The bulk of the Federation did not participate in the smaller post-OYW conflicts,
Nibba they got nuked in 0083. 75% of the space fleet was destroyed. That's definitely participation.

And you have a horrible interpretation of what the Zeta conflict was. It wasn't

>the massive Federation fleet sits on the sidelines while two smaller factions of Titans and AEUG fight it out with their own resources. Federation regular military takes no damage and loses nothing.

Nope. Wrong. It was

>The Federation military is mostly dismantled and incorporated into the Titans faction and control. The AEUG steals leftovers to build their own space fleet. The regular forces of the Federation are left a hollow shell with scraps. Barely anything left and have to use what the Titans didn't want.

THAT is what happened.

That's why everyone compares them to the Waffen-SS, the IRGC or the Kwantung Army, with the latter being the closest parallel in history.

You dumb motherfucker. If that had happened, then the AEUG and Karaba would've been destroyed before a war even broke out. The entire point of Dakar was that there was a "core" of the forces to appeal to.

Nibba we literally see the Titans take equipment from the Federation and use Salamis ships and GMs in their fleets. They even demand tribute from Zeon and use Musai ships in their fleet. The Federation didn't just make brand new old Salamis JUST for the Titans. They were given it from other Federation fleets and stockpiles. Learn your lore.
>>
>>24042231
>If that had happened, then the AEUG and Karaba would've been destroyed before a war even broke out.
AEUG was created shortly before Zeta Gundam. After the Titans existed already for about 4 years. The AEUG fleet was assembled in secret and was funded by Anaheim Electronics and secret donations from other companies. The Titans being powerful and huge doesn't mean they can be everywhere at once.

>The entire point of Dakar was that there was a "core" of the forces to appeal to.
No. The point of Dakar was to appeal to the Federation POLITICIANS who gave the Titans their money and budget and legal protections. Cut off their money and support and the Titans will be weakened. You really don't even know Zeta Gundam at all. Go rewatch the show. You read the databooks more than watching the actual anime.

The whole reason the Titans fell back to the Gate of Zedan was that the Titans could still operate independently. Even if the politicians cut off their funding and declared the Titans illegal it was too late. The Titans could still be independant. They had an asteroid base, factories to build more suits, and a Colony Laser to threaten anyone who didn't obey and give them resources.
>>

I'm pretty sure the anime said the Titans were replacing the regular Federation military. That's why they were given Jaburo and all military bases of the Federation.

I have to agree. The main problem was that the Titans still had legitimacy from politicians. They were the main target of the AEUG.
>>
>>24042265
>AEUG was created shortly before Zeta Gundam
No they weren't. Quattro says the AEUG was involved in the 30 Bunch protest in UC0085. The AEUG had already existed for 2 years, and their very public leader was part of the Federation assembly pushing for blatantly pro-contolist policies.

>The AEUG fleet was assembled in secret
The AEUG fleet is just normal feddies. The AEUG was an open political faction within the federation. They don't even get Nemos until around episode 8 or 9. They use federation-produced GM IIs and exactly 3 Rick Diases from Anaheim until then.

>The point of Dakar was to appeal to the Federation POLITICIANS who gave the Titans their money and budget and legal protections
You're both wrong. That was only part of it. The AEUG specifically discussing their takeover of broadcast stations to be able to broadcast it to the world because they're trying to gain general approval and expose the Titans. The show even makes it a point to show that there are even Titans who hear the broadcast and realize they're not on the right side of the conflict. Jamitov portrayed the Titans as a force of justice and righteousness (the characters literally say this in the show btw) and brought in soldiers who wanted to believe in that.

>Even if the politicians cut off their funding and declared the Titans illegal it was too late. The Titans could still be independant. They had an asteroid base, factories to build more suits, and a Colony Laser to threaten anyone who didn't obey and give them resources.
They were always independent. The Zeta novelization points out that Jamitov built the Titans fleet in secret himself, including the Dogosse Giar, in order to shock and awe the Federation assembly into submission. And they had control of Green Noa and other colonies, well before getting approval to command general federation forces later.
>>
>>24042554
>They were always independent. The Zeta novelization points out that Jamitov built the Titans fleet in secret himself, including the Dogosse Giar, in order to shock and awe the Federation assembly into submission.
Titans are only independent when it suits them. Logistically they depend on the EFF like in episode 9 where Jamaican tries to obtain supplies from the EFF stationed at Granada, or episode 3 where they order Lila's unit to help intercept the Argama. They also threaten Side 3 into supplying them near the end of the series after they've lost all support from the Feds.
>>
>>24042554
>Quattro says the AEUG was involved in the 30 Bunch protest in UC0085.
Nonsense.

>The AEUG fleet is just normal feddies.
They are a mix of Federation personnel, Spacenoids, ex-Titans, and ex-Zeon members.

>The AEUG was an open political faction within the federation.
No they are not. If they were then they wouldn't need to hide and constantly run from the authorities.
The AEUG have no official sanction or legal authority granted from the Federation government. They are a rebel faction operating in secret and sponsored by a handful of politicians and large corporations to fight against the domination of the Titans.

>broadcast it to the world because they're trying to gain general approval and expose the Titans.
To pressure the politicians. Broadcasting it wasn't meant to inspire regular soldiers to rise up. It was meant to put pressure on the real elites who control the Federation. The leaders and politicians at Dakar who give the Titans funding and legal approval.

The Titans fumbled big time by fighting within the city having it shown on TV. But the deeper issue is that it showed the politicians that the Titans could not protect them. The Titans allowed the politicians to be put in danger. The petty elites would never forget that and needed to punish the Titans. The Earth politicians and elites don't give a shit about Char's passionate speech to leave earth or righteous cause of the AEUG. They only care about their self interest and which faction can protect them best. The Titans messed up.

>They were always independent.
They literally have legal and military authority over regular Federation forces. This was granted to them by the government. It's why Titans can order Bright around in the anime despite being lower rank than Bright. Titans have superior legal and military authority.

How does this disprove anything? The Titans were already a functioning and well established organization before the AEUG was a thing. The Titans started in 0083. Thus your whole point null and void. And even if we ignore 0083, the anime implies that the Titans were already well established prior to the formation of the AEUG. They had spent years using heavy handed means to keep the spacenoids in check which ironically is what led to the AEUG being formed.

Also the AEUG you are referencing is a different organization compared to the Zeta Gundam AEUG. The AEUG you are referencing was a peaceful movement of Spacenoids trying to protest the Federation and do peaceful demonstrations. Zeta Gundam AEUG is an armed mercenary militia with mobile suits, fleets of their own, and secret funding from Space Walmart and Space Costco. Very different AEUGs.

"Even if we ignore Stardust Memory", we have Tomino's novel which puts the AEUG's formation in the year 0083, by military personnel like Blex Forer. The Earth Federation had created the Titans to wipe them out once and for all, not the other way around.

Yeah but this is a Sentinel thread.

>The AEUG is the AEUG, regardless if it's a grassroots protest group or a militia.
Nah. There is a massive difference between a bunch of peaceful student protestors and an armed SPACE FLEET WITH MOBILE SUITS.

>Tomino's novel
Tomino himself has said his novels are not related to the anime. The novels were him exploring different ideas and thoughts without needing approval from a Bandai for every little creative decision. The novels gave Tomino freedom to explore alternative concepts. He hated Bandai oversight.

Come on, you're grasping at straws here. First of all, the anime says the AEUG staged a demonstration. You said that was nonsense. Admit you were fucking wrong before sperging.

Second, the novel proves that there was clear authorial intent for the AEUG appearing on the stage before the Titans, especially from military officers unhappy with the post-war treatment of Spacenoids. Granted, this is all moot because Stardust Memory retconned the whole thing and had the Titans appear in the wake of Delaz's rebellion, but the idea that the AEUG was this super-clandestine group that appeared in the span of a few months is absurd. Ditto for the notion that the Titans controlled the entirety of the Earth Federation Forces.

Gryps was a much smaller conflict in scale than the OYW. Therefore, whatever deployment from either side would necessarily be a fraction of what was sent to fight against Zeon. 800 GM IIIs is a substantial force in 0087.

Are you the same pedantic ESL that insisted with "Fukuda said Kira was unhappy with the performance of Rising Freedom" bullshit in that other thread? Your wording (repeated use of nouns instead of pronouns, too short sentences) is very similar.

It's also why Tomino was very surprised Bandai chose Hathaway's Flash to animate. He wrote that to vent off steam and as a big FU to Bandai Executives.

>0083 doesn't count
I told you it counts. It's a fucking retcon, but it counts, so enough of your fucking lies.
>Granted, this is all moot because Stardust Memory retconned the whole thing and had the Titans appear in the wake of Delaz's rebellion

>Only THIS very specific novel counts which Tomino admits isn't related to the TV anime.
Exclusively to get authorial intent to get a glimpse behind the ideas of the story back in 1987, NOT as canon. Ditto for either CCA novel.

>It's also why Tomino was very surprised Bandai chose Hathaway's Flash to animate. He wrote that to vent off steam and as a big FU to Bandai Executives.
It doesn't matter to Bandai. It's content within their IP attached to a recognizable name. And besides, Tomino is more interested in his utterly incomprehensible shart that is G-Reco, rather than make a story that still makes a bit of sense to follow through.

Of course 0083 and latter works don't count, it's made after Zeta (and Sentinel) and written by different staff.
Novels provide important lore background and are used as a basis for UC's world building like Lagrange points, Sasro, Darcia, Cecilia etc. Glemy straight up quotes a date from there. Zeta novels were released concurrently with the show and are mostly straight novelisation of show's events which you are meant to read along cause Gundam is mixed media franchise (stuff like biosensor is mentioned there).
So novels, despite their dubious canonicity, do provide the necessary background around which the show's events happen.
>He wrote that to vent off steam and as a big FU to Bandai Executives.
No, he didn't.

Sorry anon but I only focus on what's in the anime.

If we invite supplementary material, then ALL supplementary material is fair game and must be allowed. Not just your favorites. And that includes interviews with staff and Tomino himself.

>It's set immediately after the end of Zeta right?
At some point after Zeta. The New Desides are made of Titans reservists stationed at Pezun that swore to uphold the ideas and principles of the Titans after the Gryps War ended. Three Full Armor ZZs were in service for Task Force Alpha, and the Mk-V was meant for them, but the ship it was being transported on defected to the New Desides.

>Novels provide important lore background and are used as a basis for UC's world building like Lagrange points, Sasro, Darcia, Cecilia etc.
No they don't. Novels are in the same category as databooks. Extra fluff that's not canon to the anime.

No.

They would have to write a completely new story

FAZZ is not Full Armor ZZ. They're essentially paper tigers

>At some point after Zeta
It starts during the last arc of Zeta, right after Jamitov's death, which about a month before the final battle and ending. New Desides take over Pezun, then the federation reorganizes its main fleet, and spins off Taskforce Alpha, which deploys right after the end of Zeta to put down dissidents in the wake of the AEUG's victory.

And New Desides aren't Titans. They're former members of the Instructor Corps, another autonomous military organization that had the best pilots just focused on coming up with combat doctrine and producing combat data for learning computers to load into new MS. But they have the same ideology as the Titans because of their elite nature. The entire reason they rebel is because the autonomy of the Instructor Corps was being taken away and put under the direct management of the Federation Forces, which they felt was siding with spacenoids and the AEUG by cutting off the Titans. There are also Zeon infiltrators who made their way in through other parts of the Federation. If they were Titans they would've helped the Titans in the final battle, but they were mainly just holed up in Pezun.

Not any of the previous posters duking it out about canon however, personally speaking I think 0083 is complete utter drivel and over steps its bounds by introducing Operation Stardust. It is such a huge cataclysmic event that it never being referenced to in Zeta or even ZZ is absurd and also makes the Titans seem somewhat soft all things considered, after Operation Stardust they would have been 10x times worse. (It was made after these I know, Zeta ANT still doesn't give a fuck about 0083 outside of showing a GM Quel).

Hathaway gets like 3 minutes of mecha in the entire 2 hour movie and they're 3D models with questionable animation

The Nero is basically the MP "GM equivalent" to the S Gundam right? Then how come the Nero was already in service when the S was still in testing? Aren't the sorties in Sentinel its first outings since the AI wasn't "mature" yet?
>>
JUST GIVE ME A FAT HGUC XEKU EINS
>>
>>24044564
The Nero's lower body comes from the S Gundam, but its upper body apparently comes from some Lambda Gundam.

Nero made into service earlier than the S because I'm guessing the hardware for both Gundams were already completed and the Nero didn't have a complicated AI that Anaheim and the Federation wanted to carefully deploy and monitor its growth.

just pay attention oldtype.

What is this?
>>
>>24027315
Mech designs are great, but they need to write another story, existing one is meh. If it's about Alice awakening then the story should include some hot and steamy human-AI romance. It may sound awkward, but deep inside you know it's true.

>>24027320
>Too dry
I wish. The characters talk about their feelings and ideaology too much. If it was just an unfeeling military operation kind of story then it might be interesting.
