ITS HEREIT'S FINALLY HEREhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlyfsggXnNM
>>24032518IT'S SLOPIT'S COMPLETE SLOP>This is a machine translation, produced with large language models (OpenAI and Claude)
>>24032539one thing is dissing on recomps made via AI whicb is thensame thinga s an emulator and completely pointless crap.but dissing on translation projects of games that, and lets be real here, WOULD NEVER BE DONE hadnt AI evolved to this level is a complete different deal! specially when they are making it clear they want to actually clean things up manually and not just leave the first take.let us remember that aeon genesis has been sitting on a 'proper, human-made quality translation' of SRW alpha for decades, and he will never release it, and now there are people who are working on a translation of a more difficult and heavier textwise game and they are asking for help so the overall quality is actually on par with a human translation, only because the tools and tesources are there.tldr: unless you are working on a proper translation effort for this, or any other big /m/ game project using the traditional method and you actually commit to release it, shut up! because we know NOBODY would translate these games if not because of AI, possibly the ONLY good use for it.
>Ai slopPass
>>24032518Well, it's better than no translation effort, compared to when AI slop translation patches ruin things for a dedicated team who actually put care into their translation project.
I'm happy enough with any free translation that's enough to get me through menus, upgrade trees, and vaguely grasp what people are talking about.
>>24032666and you have any actual examples of that?if any translation group claims they wont release a thing because some ai project did said thing first, that means they NEVER planned to release or even work on that project in the first place. and you know it.
>>24032556>one thing is dissing on recomps made via AI whicb is thensame thinga s an emulator and completely pointless crapI think recomps are way more worthwhile than most AI translations are. They sometimes run better than their emulated counterparts and open the door for modding like what happened with Mario 64. Plus in the case of 360 recomps, the code from them is usually backported to Xenia to make games playable both ways. Ace Combat 6 for example. I do think a lot of them exist for people to go 'look at this thing I made(with Claude's help.)' But both can be good if the person behind it can actually code or translate in the first place and use the AI slop bot to speed up the process. It's still worse at translation overall but if all you care about is it being the bare minimum of playability it can work.>>24032681There is a program out there that's sort of like Google Lens but for game text.https://github.com/bquenin/interpreterIt seems to work pretty efficently and overlays the translated text too.
>SRW getting translated now>ACE3 in englishTHE FUTURE IS BRIGHT
Oh I beated this already
>>24032539>>24032660That's fine, literal translation (which is what I want) should require not creative input anyways.
>>24033038>literal translation (which is what I want) Just learn Japanese at that point.
>>24032738its AIslop, can it really be bright?
>>24033063I think you got that backwards. Learning Japanese means you would no longer have to worry about the rigidity of literal translation. You'd have your own interpretation.
>>24032708for every sm64plus, unleashed recomp or starfox enhanced, theres hundreds of shitty recomp efforts which are just glorified emulators that dont even work properly. specially since they werent planned properly and shoved to an exe making program without knowing how the code works.it is because of that, people are hating recomps now.
Very very cool. A totally overlooked game back in the day. I played the hell out of it but I don't think I beat. Scramble Commander is another one we need to check out, and honestly people with light Japanese knowledge could play either series. I played most of them 20 years ago when I had even less ability to understand Japanese. The one I really hope I can finally emulate someday is R
I need a King Gainer
Is this the one with Frontier in it? Or am I remembering a different one? Was digging through old files and found the OP for one of these games.
bleak as fucki gotta hide away my obscure untranslated mecha games from these fuckers
>>24032556And how are you supposed to know if the AI didn't shit out some complete hallucination?
>>24033150No frontier is in the PS3 one called R, and the bespoke Macross one for PSP. That's a fun little game if you want to pick it up and emulate it. I imported it way back in the day.
>>24032539>>24032660better than nothing>but slop!!why didn't people translate it before AI?
>>24032518This is awesome regardless of how it was translated. Better than nothing. Not sure why a handful of people are crying about AI. The job is done. Don't like it? Translate yourself.
>>24033157here's the thing: i never said an AI translation would get it right first shot, they NEVER WILL.The point im trying to make is that nobody, even professional translation groups will translate games like this or later SRW. the only way anyone could even dare to try, is if there were a special tool to do it. and now that the tools are there, there can be translations.and just like with SRWa3, the translator is asking people help to actually clean up the translation and actually bring it to professional level, because even the guy who made the translation knows that just leaving it as-is, is a bad idea.
>>24033255The bottleneck is always with the autistic codemonkeys more than weebs with too much freetimeUsing AI to replace the former is way more binary since if the patch is fucked its obvious, if the translation is bad you would need to see the text side by side to catch subtler fuckups
>>24033157To be fair if you are even slightly familiar with the source material you should be able to generally tell if the AI is close or not. If people could work out crabstick subs and the fucking Moon Dwellers translation they can figure this
Speaking from experience with sloppaTLed eroge, while ai translations are less shit than classical MTL they still aren't there yet and how viable they are as a tool is entirely dependent on having a human with at least a little knowledge of how shit should be do an editing pass(and at that point you are just a little bit away from being able to do a real translation anyway). It's fine for low quality beat your meat rpgmaker shit but I'd never want to see it in a real game.
ok so it's AI Machine translation.i don't mind that in itself, but is it even a halfway decent translation or are we dealing with another person who just threw it into the machine and just copypasted whatever came out?
>>24032682Tricolore Crise got an AI fan translation released, but it also caused friction since another translator going by the name Yuzu was working on a proper translation with a small group on their own spare time, releasing partial patches up until that point.Air Management '96 had a solo translator (Saralene) working on it in her own spare time, until someone just finished the translation by using her partially translated patches she's released with AI to finish the rest of the game. However, the AI portion's quality is notably lower than Saralene's original translation. It's kind of a hit-or-miss issue as AI translation has helped speed up giving a lot of JP-only games a fresh chance with the EN community, but some of them lack the nuance that made the game memorable, like the recent SEGAGAGA's recent AI translation patch, which misses all the double entendres and Japanese-specific humor. On the other hand, many games that didn't have an ongoing fan translation patch are now potentially getting AI translated.
You know it's bad when there's not a single screenshot of the translation here
>>24033551No one was going to translate that doujin anyway so you BETTER be thankful someone finally did with AI. It's better than nothing!
>>24033597This: put up or shut up. I bet it's not even as funny as MD's official English translation.
>>24033634Damn straight at least we have something now although I never needed the translations anyway...
>>24033474Basically this. I don't mind AI translation for say, an "idea" of a translation (look I survived crabsticks, ARR, and HK shit like STEVE GO TO FATHER) but at the same time I don't want this to be the only option. My vain, pie-in-the-sky hope is that it gets someone annoyed or inspired enough to put in a proper translation. But for now it's whatever.Plus if it's that bad I'll just stick to playing it in Japanese or something idk
>>24033255>SRWa3, the translator is asking people help to actually clean up the translationWell he certainly isn't putting much effort in himself that's for sure
>>24033810Not even the same guy, there are two on going translation project of A3 right nowhttps://retrogametalk.com/threads/ps2-super-robot-wars-alpha-3-english-translation-project.28806/post-852069
>AIInto the trash it goes
>>24034038>>24033810it does seem like the Rei one will be the one who will pull it off and actually look professional.at the end anyway, we will have a translation of one of the text heaviest SRW games yet.
>>24033647>WhatthefuckamIreading.jpg
>>24033255>>24034038Now that there is an easy way to inject translations thanks to LLMs, can't we just use the translated LPs?
>>24034487>can't we just use the translated LPs?Because the entire scripts aren't translated in those LPs.
>>24034038It's all the same worthless shit.
>>24032539You know what's the ideal solution to this. AI with Human QC. AI does all the translation, and human quality checks and edit the rough part. People who depends on AI thinks it's the one-key solution when in fact that despite cruise control, you still need to steer.
>>24034833Are you retarded? Edited MTL is already a thing, you see it everywhere in the web/light novel scene. And even if it's better than rough MTL it's still shit, you need fluent JP-EN translator not someone with bare language knowledge going through an already completly invalid translation.
>>2403315790% of videogames and light novels are not so difficult in their writing that an AI would get it wrong. You could ask exactly the same thing of anyone translating a random game because they were hired to do so, or a random manga chapter, or a random light novel.
>>24034845You're so stupid. AI already edits its own output to make lines legible in English. The issue is coherency; the only solution is to translate line by line with an AI model and verify that it's not suddenly forgetting who is who or what certain terms mean. Most edited MTL is, quite honestly, garbage. Even when it's "edited" the person doing the proofreading and editing is an ETL in Thailand or Vietnam.
>>24034892>Most edited MTL is, quite honestly, garbage. Even when it's "edited" the person doing the proofreading and editing is an ETL in Thailand or Vietnam. That's what I'm saying.
>>24034892>>24034895Then step up, EFL. You always look down on ESLs and ETLs yet they're ended up being the most productive and moving things forward.
>>24034953They're not productive. They're parasites who feed text into shitty software and paste it, leaching money by lying to advertisers and Patreon.
>>24034953>they're ended up
>AIslopvs.>SEAniggerslopchoose wisely, /m/echaman...
What do these acronyms even mean. ETL? ENCEPHALOPOD TRANSLATED LANGUAGE? MTL? MACHINE TRANSLATED LANGUAGE?English as a third language or tertiary language? Moon or Mandarin as a third or tertiary language?
I played it last night, the translation has been pretty good so far. Give it a chance.
>>24035283SEAniggers cannot understand how to write English, so even if they understand what they translated from Japanese into their own language they cannot then translate it into legible English. At least what the AI outputs is readable.
>>24032556You write like an Indian.
ELS or GN-Translation? Which way anon?
>>24034889>not so difficult in their writing that an AI would get it wrongUnfortunately it's not always a difficulty thing. Obviously it's not sending its best, but an easy example would be how often twitter's grok-driven translator randomly turns posts into ones about completely different topics. Usually it's something obvious because you're pretty sure the original post wasn't about JAV titles, but I actually had a weird case where on one of the Hathaway 2 x existing show promo tweets it somehow decided to start talking about WfM when the original text was about GQ, completely made up dates and shit too while roughly fitting the original formatting. It's the capacity to be convincingly wrong and in ways you wouldn't expect an actual mind to be that make it such a thorny tool.
>>24033156Play them raw then, faggot. People translating it with AI isn't going to make the originals go away nor has any actual people expressed interest in translating these games.
>>24035861ThisThere is a reason those are released as xdelta patch not just the whole game
>>24035861The game isn't even that hard to understand it's for almost elementary school learning Japanese. Again, I played it way back in the day when I was I knew a lot last Japanese.
