Why was Gundam X not popular? It should've been able to ride the wave of success that Wing started.
Didn't air in USA.
>>24043194Canceled.
>>24043194The most common theory is franchise fatigue. There had been at least one Gundam series, movie, or OVA for several consecutive years before X came out.
>OversaturationAs >>24043218 said, X came in the wake of G and Wing. The final warning for the franchise was was Turn A (mostly made as a personal favor for Tomino), which did so terribly that forced Bandai to make a new, action-heavy "remake" of the original series.>Wrong place, wrong timeThe hot new thing in the second half of the 90s was Evangelion. Gundam was too much a product of the previous decade to get the teenagers interested in it. Again, this needed a new approach for their next big project: aim at kids with flashy action and females with soap-opera drama.
>>24043194It just wasn't very good.
>>24043223>Eva was the hot new thing-Stopped reading right there.
Looking at the previous series and what was popular, I got my own theory. It was too straight. Right out the gate Garrod and Tifa are making moon eyes at each other and the only other pretty boys included a shameless womanizer.
>>24043289If it's so straight then why are are its fans such huge faggots? Anyways, the Frosts were gay as hell.
>>24043223Unironically I wish Turn A *was* enough of a failure to kill Gundam. Maybe it’s better off if Gundam as a franchise simply remained in the 20th century
>>24043288I'm not asking you to like Evangelion or not. It's a statement of fact.Back in the 90s, the damn thing was MASSIVE in Japan. We're talking about a literal social phenomenon.
>>24043282 >It just wasn't very good.Ultimately it's this. It's absolutely got strong aspects, but not enough to balance out the negatives.I started watching it when it last went up on Youtube and it's strong out of the gate, but the pacing quickly kind of slumps and becomes bit of a chore. I ended up dropping entirely rather than skipping past bits.
>>24043194It's kind of boring and the robots are ugly.
>>24043194Because it's shit, how many times are you going to make this thread before you understand this fact? You can cope about random shit all you want, the fact is that it just isn't a good show and no revisionism or sudden interest spike/twitter trend will ever change that.
Pros:- Adventure-feeling show- RPG-like aspect of heroes going from town to town to help people- Characters are all likeable- Mechs are all cool, except the Jenice- Freeden is cozy ship- Music is great- Many touching moments- The Double X vs Colony Laser episode is one of best episodes in the franchise- Battles not revolving around "who has more space magic levels" was a fresh airCons:- Weak start, episode 9 is where it becomes so good- Pacing becomes slow sometimes, especially in those weird MOTW episodes after Garrod got DX- Animations are worse than G and Wing's for some reason- Wing Zero had lots of "cool poses" moments, the X's staff didn't bother do one for Double X after its debut satellite cannon scene above the seait's technically a 7.5/10 show but because I love the characters and mechs, It's a personal 9/10
>>24043499Thanks for admitting your shit taste.
>>24043501Thanks for reading my postnow I know I didn't waste my time
>>24043501Go back to spamming cancelled all over the thread you mindbroken faggot.
>>24043282>>24043296I just watched this actually. It was the best AU I've seen yet. I only have two others left. You two have horrible taste. It's very funny!!!
I really like how the show made many enemies into allies, it's nice to see friendship prevail over hate
>>24043502>>24043516Cringe. Enjoy your cancelled garbage that even Sunrise hates.
>>24043659>can't commit to killing any characters, they are all friends or something I dunno lol >supposed wasteland apocalyptic yet everyone lives in prosperity >the show has no clue what to do so it turns two boring randos into the main villains The show was so messy it's a miracle it didn't get cancelled sooner.
>>24043194The characters were too bland.
Because it wasn't very good.
What really irked me about X was how quickly they forgot their own premise. When the series starts, we're only 15 years out from an incredibly destructive war that ended with MULTIPLE colony drops that caused apocalyptic damage to the Earth and humanity, forcing people to wander barren wastelands to scavenge for lost technology and survive on what little is left. Less than a quarter of the way through the show it sure doesn't feel that way when they're visiting thriving, bustling towns.
Oversaturated market But I like F91, X sucked. Bad guys look like snidely whiplash bad guys and are always assholes with no redemption. Mute psychic loli gf is so trope heavy it's embarrassing. Showrunner unit is hardly unique enough to warrant watching.
>>24043659Ok I will now eventually pick up your show, I love me my super robot optimism>war is badis indeed good, but does every potential friend have to end up like Four and Rosamia
>>24043705perhaps the staff was forced to change things because of the poor performance of the show to make it close to Wing
>>24043282Better than Wing.
>>24043844lollmao
>>24043844No.
>>24043705This was one of my major problems. It felt like a bait and switch. I was promised Mad Max Gundam but they delivered bupkis.
>>24043844That's not an achievement.
>>24043705>>24043876The mad max episodes were the weakest episodes
>>24043659It really fits the theme and message of the show
Tiffa was awful. Just another autistic screeching kid like shakti
>>24043292Just do what I do and ignore everything outside of the UC timeline and GquuuuuuX. Everything else is just trend chasing slop and Char Clones.
>>24044506UCucks are such an embarrassing crowd lmao
>>24044506>the UC timeline and GquuuuuuXcould have stopped at the UC timelineshould have stopped at the UC timeline
>>24043203Which is nuts because I honestly think X would have gone over great on Toonami
>>24044506based UChad
>>24043291>the Frosts were gay as hell. Most gay people on twitter complain that the frost brothers have no sauce and are boring despite being gay ass homos
>>24044719As if homos can't be boring or something? Fags are such fucking retarded performative monkeys.
X really does lack good villains, maybe a consequence of getting cut short but it didn't feel like they were gonna bother setting up anyone but the Frost Bros to really matter from the New UNE either.I like the rest of the cast though.
I believe it was a little too bland after both G and Wing and didn't have the same "crazy" characters, mobile suits or moments like G and Wing had. Everyone here was pretty sane and too normal... So in comparison, there was very little character drama.Even the Gundams were just far too bland. The Gundam X's main gimmick was a more restricted version of something Wing/Wing Zero did every battle. Airmaster was a chunky more pathetic Wing. And while Leopard was a slightly better Heavyarms, it was something we'd already seen before. And finally, it felt like a sequel to an entirely better series. Introduces characters like they are supposed to have a whole series of background behind them, but we never got that. Talks about this great war like we should already know about it... But it wasn't the OYW despite how much they wanted us to use that as a stand in.In the end it wasn't terrible, but it's like they didn't want to try too hard after Wing... So they tried to rely on more of a UC form but with some AU flare... And it didn't really work for the audience who just made it through G Gundam and Wing, which were quite popular.Which its follow up, Gundam Seed did kind of the opposite and was pure AU flare with some UC trappings, mixed with the teen drama... Which seemed to work a bit better, I guess. I dunno. You never hear much about it anymore...
>>24044777Yeah, I love X, but the Frosts were just mishandled. They're really underwhelming in the first half of the show and end up trashed during the Fort Severn arc, so it's hard to buy the show wanting to hype them up as big villains in the battlefield later on.We do know from written material they were supposed to have some special team under them (who are the ones piloting Neo Daughtress and backing them up even after they fire at the NUNE in the finale) but due to the final episodes being rushed they're complete non-characters.Maybe if they got to be portrayed as leaders to those recurring characters they'd feel more well rounded as villains.
>>24044506>and Char ClonesX doesn't have a Char clone
>>24045037It's argued to be split between Jamil and Lancerow. This does, admittedly, stretch the definition of "clone" quite a lot.
>>24044781>Which seemed to work a bit better, I guess. I dunno. You never hear much about it anymore...It's literally the most successful and popular AU by a wide margin, it's even getting another movie soon.
>>24044682>G-Cucks>BasedLmao
