WOOOOOO SORA YO
>>24045767unwatchableshit pacing
Watchable and probably the best adaptation of a series into movies, but the pacing is still weird and characterization suffers. Good as a refresher; the uninitiated could easily still be lost.
>>24045767None are good, not even the third one.
>>24045798i remember that tomino like them more than the show, guess since he can cut all the things sponsors forced him to put.
>>24045857Tomino is harsh self critic, he used to dislike lot of his work but has started to come around on liking them.
The worst parts of it are cutting the duel in Texas with M'Quve and the treatment of Ryu's death, but it's entertaining enough even if the show is of course the real story. A few scenes are better, like how Bright actually reacts to discovering Sayla's identity, and having more music helps.
>>24045951Oh, and I also kind of like how the whole Newtype thing comes completely out of nowhere so late in the series, clearly being the product of a last-minute decision. Having the concept be present so much earlier in the movies really reduces the weirdness of casually inserting the supernatural into a science fiction series.
>>24045958>clearly being the product of a last-minute decision.Nope, it was already foreshadowed through Matilda's esper line and was always the plan. Movies cut out the natural interaction between the cast to just make them spew forced "NEWTYPES, NEWTYPES, NEWTYPES" every other line like robots.
>>24045958>clearly being the product of a last-minute decisionRetard.
>>24045972>just make them spew forced "NEWTYPES, NEWTYPES, NEWTYPES" every other line like robotsThis happens in the actual show too as soon as the term "Newtype" is introduced though
>>24045972>it was already foreshadowed through Matilda's esper line and was always the planNah, that line appeared in episode 9, about two months into the show, and by this point they would already have been taking on feedback to increase ratings. Apparently to some viewers (and critics), the learning computer explanation was implausible to account for Amuro's skill, so Tomino had to switch to the esper angle. It's hard to take convince anyone it was always the plan when the actual term "Newtype" is first mentioned in *episode 38*, and before then, was never really weaved into the war story organically, just some vague allusions to psychic powers, then suddenly "oops there's this entire driving ideology that we neglected to mention soz".Even the scriptwriters (Hoshiyama, Yamamoto and Matsuzaki) in Roman Album 35 basically said that they thought the entire Newtype angle felt cheap, oddly religious and didn't feel like their Gundam anymore, but in the end it was something that Tomino insisted on including.
>>24046828In The movies they Indeed included it more since the first one and reiterad it in the second one to the conclusión of it in the final one yeah
>>24045767I like the Spike Spiegel Char in the dub. There, I said it
>>24046828>the entire Newtype angle felt cheap, oddly religiousI really don't think it's religious as much as it is based off Jung and his theory of the collective unconscious.
>>24046828Tomino had trouble zeroing in on the exact concept of it (something that he would grapple with throughout his run working on Gundam) and naming but the plan was always to go in that direction. It's not even that outlandish as a concept considering he had worked on Future Boy Conan a year prior and the theme of espers and next stage of evolution were pretty common in western scifi works.
>>24046886His voice is one of the better ones in that movie honestly. By comparison Amuro's sucks but some of that might just be the writing, since they wrote him as sort of a sassy smartass character or somethingFraw Bow and Lalah also sound pretty good
