>Japan is mad becuase IDW made Star Saber evil.>Japan retcons it with a toy release saying it was a dummy that goes crazy if it's plugged into the armor too long. This has to be the pettiest thing ever. I love it.
Never understood the appeal of IDW's gay ass TF comic continuity
>IDW
>>24068391Never mind the appeal, what was it even for in a commercial sense? Normally comics are used to sell toys but Hasbro really only made toys of IDW designs for like two years. Later it totally diverged from the toys and focused on their toyless OCs so it's like, why even use the license at that point.
>>24068430Yeah, Skybound has the comic license now. What do people think of that.
>>24068504It's solid but the Transformers ongoing has been hitting a slumpI'm inclined to believe that conspiracy it has to do with Hasbro meddling because Void Rivals doesn't have the same problems and/or Kirkman's falling into the same pitfalls writers have when they work on an IP they're a fan of but can't think outside of the box for
>>24068500>Normally comics are used to sell toys but Hasbro really only made toys of IDW designs for like two years. Later it totally diverged from the toys and focused on their toyless OCs so it's like, why even use the license at that point.Anon, you have a very outdated understanding of licensed comicsYour understanding is that the toy companies go to the publisher to create advertisements to sell toysThat's not how it works anymore (especially after the crash made it so that marketing via comics is largely not worth it) aside from very limited exceptions for particularly very niche publishersIn the case of IPs like Transformers it's the publisher that seeks out the license and pays the license holder for the right to which they renew when expiration is approachingHasbro doesn't advertise the comics because they already made their money when publishers pay them for their IPsThe other half of licensed comics are tie-ins but that's more on the side of being seen as merchandise to a bigger product
>>24068163So they're using a piece of plastic that only exists so you can display Saber with Star Saber to retcon one of IDW's many shitty storylines awayThat's very cool
>>24068500>Normally comics are used to sell toysWell, nobody buys comics anymore(for good reason, a lot of comic book writers are somehow worse writers than fucking isekaislop writers) so they would completely fail as ads.
>>24068508That makes even less sense because as said, IDW threw everything into their OCdonuts so why did they even bother to seek out the license?
>>24068544BECAUSE they wanted it to be about their sonichus. It's the dream of every narcissitic theatre kid to make whatever they're working on about them.
>>24068547Why didn't their editor or whoever pays the bills not steer them back on track? It's like they just watched them do a titanic and let their money burn.
>>24068544Brand recognition and to be frank, Transformers wasn't THAT dominated by characters original to IDWYou also have to remember that IDW1 Transformers had like three phases with different people in charge of editorial The people in charge at some point wouldn't necessarily be the kind of people who'd seek out the license to begin with and just inherited it from the people who did want it in the first place
>>24068554That would imply the editors aren't also in on it
>>24068547>>24068575Doesn't even sound like IDW is a real business. How are they still around?
>>24068163>IDW made Star Saber evil.IDW just needs to leave my GOAT alone, ffs
>>24068720On one hand, I thought the idea of taking his justice thing to it's chaotic extreme was a neat idea; going from someone who's well known for being chilvarous and what not to a religious zealot. On the other hand, that's just not Star Saber at all and they didn't bother trying to make him into his actual character. It might be why I'm okay with this; making Star Saber something similar to Magnus (but unlike Magnus, it's just a mistaken-prone drone piloting the armor) leaves the idea that Saber was still out there doing his whole swordsman thing, even though it's probably more of an excuse to let you display both separately.
>>24068728micro minimus is fucking gay sexy Tumblr man shit you raging homo
Who the fuck cares about IDW anything? They ruin everything they touch.
>>24068163>This has to be the pettiest thing ever. I love it.even more petty than what happened with Zilla in Final Wars?
>>24068780That's why it's significant when daddy Takara undo their ruin
>>24068163That’s actually fucking hilarious.
>>24068728>going from someone who's well known for being chilvarous and what not to a religious zealot. These are not equivalent. It's not an extreme evolution of the same personality.
>>24068637>How are they still around?Last Ronin sales
>>24068163So they basically saying >IDW = sovlless
>>24068507This is why I'm firmly in the "fuck the fans" camp, at least the western side. You're not allowed to criticize IDW for it's character assassination of Star Saber because "uh it's japanese only it's not relevant chud" when all they do is bitch about Bayformers, UT and Beast Wars which unlike IDW actually made money>>24068391When James Roberts came onto the scene it slowly stopped being about Transformers and more about spikevalve homoerotic bullshit and communist propaganda. Why the hell would anyone want to read a transformers comic where the transformers never transform. It's worse because outside of designs like Rodimus, Swerve and Windblade, they're all terrible.>>24068504It's still shit (then again it wasn't particularly great when it started either)
>>24068976Just the usual casual racism you get with an IP like this, unfortunately.
>>24068504I'll chime in and say I haven't really gotten much into Transformers, and just picked it up to read because I was a fan of the artist's other work with Do a Powerbomb and Beta Ray Bill. I'd say from my perspective, as just a story and not whether it was a good Transformers story, it was really fukken good. #1-24 was amazing.>>24068507Kirkformers is falling into the pitfalls of Kirkman being Kirkman. It's got all the hallmark flaws as the rest of Kirkman's library. Void Rivals just doesn't suffer the same fate because he establishes the characters as all being duplicitous, betraying cunts with secrets to hide, constant drama, and ridiculous stakes from the get go. Instead of taking a decent story and constantly going mexican telenovela to keep reigniting interest, it's baked into everything and can exist in the background. It's like, his other works insert the elephant into the room by having it constantly crash in through a wall every month or so, but with Void Rivals, all the curtains and rugs and their clothes are made out of elephant skin. It's not an entirely pleasant alternative, as elephant skin makes everything and everyone into a bunch of gray ballsacks, but at least they can do things from there and won't be crashed in on.
>>24068976god that sea nigger tf moments is such a massive faggot
>>24068637Like most of the comic industry and really western media as a whole, a combination of too big to fail and subsidizes.
>>24068976I'd say that AIDS infested homo Roberts can gargle my balls but he'd probably enjoy it
>>24069495What stuff do they still have? I'm pretty sure most of what they have are licensed stuff like Sonic, TMNT, and Godzilla, and are even in the middle of a Sonic and Godzilla crossover. Almost surprised they never did a Transformers and Godzilla crossover back when they still had the license to both with how many other crossovers they've done and not just with stuff they own.
>>24069580Beneath the Trees was their biggest non-licsnsed success in a while TMNT is their top seller especially with The Last RoninThey also recently announced they're adapting Worm
>>24068575Yeah, remember they merged Rom, GI Joe, MASK, TF and Action Man into one universe in IDW
>>24069623I think Skybound did the same with their Energon Universe.
>>24069636Yeah but Skybound actually planned it that way. Right now the Energon Universe is Transformers GI Joe, MASK, Rom & Micronauts. Though I wonder if Hasbro had a hand in making IDW do that as haphazardly as they did.
>>24069647>Though I wonder if Hasbro had a hand in making IDW do that as haphazardly as they did.At least they didn't try to make the horses part of it. Even if they did have two crossovers with Transformers.
>>24069647Honestly?I'm kind of inclined to believe it was just an elaborate way for Chris Ryall to write an official Rom comic
