>>43256613The easiest way I know of is to have a video editing program do the exporting/cropping for you (Kdenlive is free, if a bit laggy).If you want nicer colors (i.e. less dithering): I'd usually convert the video to a series of image frames via ffmpeg, then import the images into GIMP ("Open as layers"), apply the "Optimize (for GIF)" filter, index the colors, and then export as a GIF. Though that might take time to figure out if you've never done it before.There's probably an app or something that does all this without adding annoying watermarks/banners, but I don't do this often enough to have found it.
