As peak as the golden age was, I do have to wonder if there are perhaps some benefits to the fandom being more niche now. A lot of love for the show expressed by people seems to be more genuine and what fan content is made now is of a higher standard. The golden age also wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. All the “brony cringe” compilations were created during this period and severely damaged the reputation of both the fandom and the show, to the point where it’s almost impossible to discuss the show on its own merits. Plus you had drama like Las Pegasus Unicon and the fact that Twilicorn split the fandom down the middle.
