Zebras are created through experiments with humans of EqG dimension and their non-sapient zebras, banished to Equestria as seen as abominations.

~22700 BNM:
Similar experiments with horses create the ponies, banished as well, settle in Windingo lands.

~22500 BNM:
Zebra nomads & petty states unify into Zebra Empire.

~22300 BNM:
Windingos drive ponies from lands through push factors & open violence; seek asylum in Zebra Empire. Zebras create reservations in far north for ponies.

~22250 BNM:
Pony slavery (Ze'gaar System) begins with Zebra Empire shift from Democratic, Constitutional Monarchy to Dictatorial Shogunate-style, scientifically-speciesist regime in which the "Great Ze'gaar" (hereditary position) rules as a dictator in the name of a powerless Emperor.

“Lower/Middle Ze’gaar” or simply “Ze’gaar” becomes the term for slave-overseers and regional governors respectively.

~14500 BNM:
Years of territorial disputes between Windingo Empire and Zebra Empire results in full-scale war.

~14480 BNM:
War turns in Windingo Empire's favour; ponies revolt en-mass, leading to civil war.

~14465 BNM:
Zebra Empire collapses, territory divided between enlarged Windingo Empire, Unicorn; Pegasus & Earth Kingdoms & small Zebra remnants.

~13000 - ~11000 BNM:
Believing the zebras to still be a threat, a violent cult takes over the Unicorn Kingdom. It launches several genocidal crusades against Zebra remnants. The Pegasi join in the latter three when the cult takes over the Pegasi and makes it a unicorn vassal state. The Zebras are forced to flee Equestria (some gradually return slowly over the millennia).

It is at this point that “Ze’gaar” is widely perverted into the "zigger".

~11000 - ~10985 BNM:
The cult loses control over the Pegasi. They, along with the Earth kingdom, invade and dismantle the cult's control over the unicorns.

~10985 - ~2000 BNM:
Generational guilt & trauma leads to a culture of extreme altruism and emphasis on friendship (though initially within tribes) This results in the "Great Peace" with few, minor conflicts. Windingos migrate to Equestria and begin to feed on inter-tribal disharmony.

~2000 BNM:
Beginning of established lore.
