2013 was the beginning of the end for the internet as we know it.

Things already seemed like complete shit back then. We were so naive.
Even then, the nostalgia comes with a persistent thought, "if only you knew how bad things could really get".

>if only you knew how bad things could really get

This perfectly 2010's nostalgia.
People do not miss it because there was anything about it particularly good, but because the 2020's (and probably most decades moving forward) will keep getting worse. So the start of the Let's player era on YouTube seems like paradise compared to the drama channels, AI content farms and indian scammers infesting everything this days.

While it is true the amount of normies increased drastically by the late 2000's, they were a much more passive audience and less likely to demand changes within communities that already existed. The web was still usually ruled by people with at least some experience when it came to ways of old. The issues with a more profit-driven internet became quite noticeable is when YouTube changed their ad revenue model in late 2012/early 2013 killing internet animation as we know it and smartphones in 2015 becoming the main device people use to search content online.

>things will keep getting worse in ways you cannot yet even fathom
>everything you take for granted right now will eventually be gone
>people will start being nostalgic for the 2020's one day because of how bad things will have gotten
Grim.
