Found this neat screencap from ~2012 saved from Pokehidden's blog. Got the old Windows and everything. Let's have a thread for ancient fandom stuff.
>>43277121Some context. EqD quickly took this down because of a small line in a certain area. He was “banned” from Equestria Daily.
>>43277496Huh, neat.
>>43277496>>43277637To clarify, this wasn’t how the term came about. He was already complaining about his stuff never getting featured on the site (he also wanted EqD to cover nsfw content). That screenshot is a small victory for him.
I miss all the old pony Tumblr blogs, more than half the ones I used to like are gone nowI'm scared to think of how many of them are lost media now
>>43277496What's that line, anyway? Crotchboob cleavage? Or frontgina?
>>43279104I don't think he ever does the former (except for a certain milk mare)
I heard the old fluffy abuse site imploded due to drama or some shit. Anybody here know what happened? Also, I find it funny that you can find compilations of the stuff on youtube that's relatively new. Some even have over a million views.
>>43278546Is there a pony askblog archive somewhere? Some of the stuff was obscure enough that it likely never got saved before a lot of it burned down>>43279332Oh, the classic>give some mentally ill retard near-complete control over your booru functionality>he obviously starts powertripping>inevitably he spergs out over some basic bitch shit>crashing_this_plane_with_no_survivors.png>because other retards in the staff never bothered with some scraper archive/gave the faggot-in-chief control over it as well, backup is nonexistent and almost everything gets lost in flames forever
>>43279779Loonadventure my beloved
>>43277121>not even halfway through 2012I'd almost forgotten just how fast Eqd folded to Hasbro's sfw approved paycheck. It was crazy in hindsight.
>>43279789He started equestria after dark specifically for nsfw stuff
>>43279779>>give some mentally ill retard near-complete control over your booru functionality>>he obviously starts powertrippingMany such cases
>>43279802Seth did? I could have sworn EQAD was ran by a guy named Alex that couldn't afford to keep it up. It didn't last long at all.
>tfw red light ponyville had more active in 2014 than /mlp/ does now.
>>43279904I think you underestimate how many anons there are here, also there are plenty of active gooners in this fandom, most are just lurkers on boorus though
>>43279752ADVENTURE PONIES!
>>43279332>>43279779Good riddance. Its torture porn of the most despicable and revolting creatures one can imagine for nothing more than callous, chinaman tier desires of inflicting cruelty on something. The fluffy slop is probably one of the top 5 worst things I've ever seen on 4chan and I wish everyone who drew it a very painful, very fatal cancer diagnosis.
>>43279904What happened to the site? I can enter it, but there aren't any posts at all in the sections I click on.
>>43280409Did you log in? Some forums are login-walled now. Another example: https://www.roundstable.com/
>>43279920Makes sense. I lurk daily but often make only 2-3 posts a day.
>>43280892Pretty much the same as me. I used to post a lot but didn't get enough (You)'s so I stopped putting effort in
>>43281483Wrong imagae
>>43279920I've recently decided to adventure myself outside of the board and by checking chat backlogs and by actively asking about /mlp/ i've realized that a surprisingly amount of the 'normal' mlp dudes lurk the board occasionally but only post on twitter and discord.
>>43280299i like it.
>>43281483(You)
>>43279920>I think you underestimate how many anons there are hereYeah there's like 2-5 anons here with some with a personality disorder so they're fighting with themselves
>>43281619True, i'm one of those anons.
>>43279802>>43279871Need this confirmed as I was always confused between the two.

There's this secondary source cancer too.https://mlpfanart.fandom.com/wiki/Equestria_After_Dark
This thread made me go searching for it again, but I finally found it. The meme that in the end got me into MLP. Posted on 2012-03-26.I used to browse Memebase a lot, and they would occasionally post pony memes. After seeing this meme, mostly in shock after seeing something else in the meme, I decided to finally Google why MLP was so popular. I then read what I think was this article:https://icrontic.com/article/why-grown-ass-men-love-my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-so-muchAfter reading that the show was created by Lauren Faust, the creator of Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s, shows I liked, I decided to give it a shot. I then binged the show until I was caught up 2 days before the S2 finale. I would download episodes off YouTube and then watch them in my room on my PS Vita.I continued browsing memes mostly switching to My Little Brony. Looking back at them now the memes are super cringe but also a time capsule of what was happening at the time. It's neat to the see excitement of upcoming episodes and the memes spawned from them.
>>43280299I mean yeah, absolutely nothing of real value was lost with Fluffybooru's death but fuck me if it doesn't feel like a devastating blow to have your sole archival site be destroyed so suddenly. Think some faggot admin on pre-altbooru Derpi having a melty and deciding to pull the plug on the site, and all the pony fandom's legacy up to that point gets erased. And in the end they kinda got what they deserved, with their entire fandom now becoming completely and irrevocably subjugated by the worst kinds of furniggers
>>43278546Names?
>>43282865Faust didn’t create Powerpuff Girls, retard. And at best, she only co-created Foster’s.

Damn. Nu-/mlp/ really is all newfags. Only a handful of images here.

>>43282884A fitting and deserved end indeed. They were always one of most disgusting threads on /b/.
>>43287932>>43285015Wow more anons who watched porn on PSP? My first orgasm was when i watched some DeviantArt shit that i had transferred to my PSP since i was worried that watching porn on our old slow shitty PC was going to get me caught, especially one time when my brother came to my room and PC froze a bit when i was trying to close the windows. Finally just when my brother is about to come to check out what i'm doing there, the window closes thank god.
>>43289484>not thank Celestiaone job anon.
>>43282865This is similar to my story. The memes sold me on the artstyle, and I binge watched up to MMMystery and completely fell in love, then a few weeks later the S2 finale aired. Caught a bit of S3 but trailed off. I look back and can see why, S3 was where it felt like a different show, thr spirit wasn't quite there. Didn't finish the show til later, wish I didn't honestly. I just wanted to understand the conversation here kek.
I remember all the episodes were on YouTube. They still are I guess. But it was different because they were recorded from the Hub, so you'd have the logos and stuff.
>>43282865Oh and I was obsessed with Equestria Girls hentai throughout high school kek
>>43289742I did too. Dad didn't know it had a web browser. I did everything on there in 5th grade. On my iPod Touch I only played mobile games. Oh yea and I chatted with people on OpenFeint. I remember spamming rape at this fat emo chick when I was 11 or so and she always responded like -_- or something.
>>43289742>>43289883All I had was a windows mobile PDA with no wifi or internet access on it when i was like 7, it had this metal hinged case and a tactile plastic keyboardEventually the charger brick blew up or something and the PDA had to be thrown away. All I really remember doing on it was just playing this bubble pop game that came installed on the device, just letting rows of bubbles pop. I guess you two got lucky with ignorant parents letting you expose yourselves to horsey porn at a young age, I only got my first exposure of horse porn at like 12, it wasn't pony though and was just furfag feral shit.
Having unsupervised internet access used to be cool. Nowadays you just get groomed by some Discord weirdos.
>>43279779>>43279783So speaking of loonadventure and the still ongoing askloonaI remember finding a separate loony luna themed blog that only had a couple of posts and felt a bit like askloona. However, that blog's posts existed way back in late 2011, which would put it at the same time as loonadventure and not askloona which was 2014. I don't know if anyone else remembers the link to it. I found it once a few years back by just casually looking through the posts and archived threads so it's got to be in there.
>>43290841I should've spent a bit more time. I found it: https://aaa99sk999l00u-u000n00n0a-blog.tumblr.com/It was hidden in one of the original loonadventure posts according to this: https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/32337626/#32341062I was hoping that it might've been some hidden blog created by askloona mod from years earlier but it's clearly from loonadventure.
>>43277121
>>43282792>Luckily, most of the blog’s posts, up to late January 2014, had been archived on a test website.Any info on this test website?>The original iteration of Equestria After Dark was run by Sethisto, creator of Equestria Daily>Sethisto also advertised the current Equestria After Dark on the old site of the same name.Is this original iteration up somewhere? I'm glad its over.

>>43297125Thing that made them so good was a combination of things. One of which was the fact that a good askblog is basically a /qst/ with the prompts styled in question format. I think this is something alot of people are missing out on when they try to do one. They're taking it too literally.
>>43301142Seconding this. Horror modernly in fandom is very tame and materialistic.

>>43300878The ecosystem just isnt there. Before you went on tumblr or your RSS app and you had 30+ pony blogs updating daily. There was no burnout on someone doing a bad arc or taking too long or going on hiatus because we had so many new horse stuff every day we needed to have multiple summaries a day. For a couple of years there you could spend all day consuming pony stuff and still miss major releases. Now since no one does it no one is going to bother checking. No one is going to go and open tumblr to read your ask blog if you're the only one. You need a constant, consisteny schedule of variety releases for people to stay. Youtube's main attraction is you being subscribed to 150 channels so you always have something to watch, plus the recommendation engine feeding your sidebar. When artist webcomics were at their popularity peak some years ago they figured they needed to make aggregators like hiveworks otherwise people were not going to come back for weekly releases. This extended their staying power by a good three years.MLP having an extremely early, extremely active aggregator (eqd) and two major forums already set up before the fandom even started is 30% of the reason it was the dominant fandom for 5 years. You couldn't make an ask blog now because you'd be the only one making an ask blog. Im not going to remember to check your webcomic on your website every other thursday, sorry.
>>43311662Someone must always be the first in order for others to follow. Also, they're checking their Twitter feed every day anyway, are they not?
>>43311685Nope
>>43311604
>>43311685Networks effects are real. You need many firsts at the same time so people bother checking you out. People check out things because people are already checking it out ("social proof"). Historically most of our content was produced by fans of the fandom rather than true honest dyed in the wool 2011 Vrony pvtriots. The opposite is also true, if your content loses fans it will start to lose fans faster, its called a death spiral. The anni brings in several thousand people every year and that traffic slowly tapers down because /mlp/ doesnt have enough consitent content to trap them. And they're the same people every year so you _know_ its retention rather than brand. In business terms we have fantastic acquisition and terrible retention.People are social and tribal whether they like it or not, you want to be where the people are. People are also, in general, followers. They wait for "someone else" to make the things they'd like to see made. We call this a collective-action problem, where everyone would be better off if everyone did a little work, but no one does because of self interest, social effects, or because they expect low reception (see death spiral).Pony twitter is very insular. Likes are anon so it mitigates the shame effect, but your normie account cant repost pony content. You can have a second account just for pony stuff but its a hassle. It limits reach and visibility a lot. From a networking pov this is hard to solve.
>>43300116Don't forget Luna Game.
>>43313897Sorry, but I don't buy it. It sounds like you're trying to recreate the viral numbers of the golden years instead of answering whether it's possible to have enough eyes to sustain an ask blog. As long as you have a dozen openly pony blogs following you, and five of those asking questions, it can work and re-inspire the trend. Unless you believe all artists require the dopamine rush of 5000 followers now. Askblogs are basically AUs, and Infection AU would be a small ask blog revival if those artists asked for questions to answer in story.
>>43314166>Unless you believe all artists require the dopamine rush of 5000 followers now. That might be true though considering (You) aren't just making one yourself.
>>43314166>anyone can just make a blog with 12 followers so its possible to just have an ask blog.Artists can make anything with no following at all. Many people stream for months on twitch to zero followers before they quit.It doesnt really matter how passionate someone is, it sucks if you spend 30 hours on a piece and get two likes. There's only so many hours in a day. Ask blogs are easier because they're require maybe one hour a day. But would you do it for years to 5-10 followers?>five of those asking questionsYou can even do it solo, just ask yourself stuff. Most ask blogs abused the anon feature to move the plot forward or do funny bits.>all artists require the dopamine rush of 5000 followersIt obviously feels better if you have a large following that loves your work and all your posts hit 10K likes on twitter, yeah.If an artist didnt care at all they wouldn't post it online. You dont need 300k followers (would be nice tho) but everyone wants recognition.Especially when instead of busting your ass for 15 likes on pony comics you could do some skindentation art of the sexo rat from ZZZ or whatever other hot anime girl and hit 3k after 3k for very little work.
>>43280299Based. It's barely pony adjacent and it's audience is not bronies. Similar to a current astroturfed poop fetishist.
>>43314350>would you do it for years to 5-10 followers? No, but I would for a month at least. If my art, chosen characters, and story gimmick lead to success, then I should have 20-30 bronies following me by then. If the trend spreads, then I might get 100 and be widely known after a few years. 100 people is a community. Artists that helped pick up the trend will want to crossover or collab. Your blog might even meme a lasting impression of a character better than any individual art could.>instead of busting your ass for 15 likes on pony comics you could [draw nonpony porn] and hit 3k after 3k for very little work.Like you said, an ask blog answer takes only about an hour and is no different from drawing sfw pony art for a handful of likes for years on end. You'll get recognition. It's only a matter of getting over warped expectations.
>>43314350>everyone wants recognition. You are not an artist.
>>43314514>only bohemian starving artists doing it for free with no expectations of recognition ever, count as artistsI guess, man.
>>43314482>Id try for a month and if I dont get a very solid following by then I'd quitThat's what I'm saying, artists try, find no real audience, and quit. Especially with something more audience-involved like ask blogs, you really need to have people consistently showing up.Very optimistic follower retention too, 100 followers doesnt mean 100 views, views dont mean interactions and interactions dont mean "rates" (reblogs, likes, whatever). I follow webcomics I havent read in 6++ months and scroll past updates on twitter because I dont feel like reading. It can be done though. It's a tiktok friendly format so it CAN work, that's where the majority of the fandom is today.Tumblr is dead. You need it to be on youtube, IG or Tiktok. All of these have ask features so its not that bad.
>>43314596An artist is someone that does art. Anyone that does art in any capacity is an artist. Someone that just posted their first piece on BALE is an artist. How you feel about art or why you do it doesnt matter.>IllustratorWhat if im a musician or a do claymation, am I also an illustrator
>>43314580I'd rather have a handful of followers that like my art and I actually talk to about it, than a thousand likes from strangers.
>>43314609>An artist is someone that does art. Anyone that does art in any capacity is an artist. Someone that just posted their first piece on BALE is an artist. How you feel about art or why you do it doesnt matter. This is right. This anon: >>43314514 & >>43314596 is just being contrarian. Trying to paint being an artist as an "either-or" thing, or some sort of "black-and-white" deal, when in reality, almost everybody is an artist at some point in-time in their lives, is silly. You can scribble shit on the underside of the toilet-seat in the public restroom(and it doesn't matter if someone paid you to do it or not, or if you "loved" the final result/outcome of your "creation" at all), Congrats! You're an artist, now.Anyone making a knot in their shoelaces to keep 'em tied-up nicely is an artist. Anyone who talks is an artist of 'speech', and anybody who does Tai Chi for five minutes is a martial artist, along with anybody who knows how to do one karate kick, or one Wing Chun punch (even if they are not very good at it). The list goes on-and-on. The term(noun) artist simply refers to someone who is a practitioner of any of the branches of artistry, no matter how good they are, or whether they get paid for it or not. To be an arter you must do art, but it does not matter if you do art for the sake of art and because you enjoy it, or for any of the multitudinous other reasons that one may desire to embark upon a creative stint.
>>43314601>artists try and quit.Have good ask blogs been attempted recently on Twitter or TikTok that I'm unaware of?>I...scroll past updates on twitter because I dont feel like reading.Weird anecdote. Burn out from audiences and artists with ask blogs is usually due to overly ambitious plots and detailed multi-panel comics, and that happened all the time during peak tumblr. Shifting the numbers that matter around is unfairly pessimistic.>You need it to be on youtube, IG or Tiktok... that's where the majority of the fandom is today.Lol, well the idea was noble one anyway. Twitter is the only site remotely close to Tumblr. Guess I'll keep waiting for the next big social media site for artists till I'm dead.
>>43314685It's hilarious that you consider this a good argument, especially with the examples you made. Yep, anyone who murmurs "what are we even living for" is a philosopher. Anyone who shitposts on 4chan is a "writer". Kek. Sure bro.
>>43315312Not him but if you put in some modicum of effort in writing a greentext on /mlp/ you're a writer. Probably not a very good one but a writer nonetheless. You can be a bad singer and still be a singer. A bassist that would very much rather be doing jazz but has has to be on some sabrina carpenter-esque nu-pop band because it pays better, is still an artist even though they dont like what they do.All of The Greats did it for money so unless you propose anonymous keygen musicians are more of an artist than Saint Michelangelo, your argument doesnt have legs.Absurd pedantry that you wouldn't apply to anything else.
>>43315539Normal people all expect a certain level of proficiency in the subject matter before you call yourself anything. Maybe not in your snowflake Twitter sphere but that is how it works in the real world.
>>43315587>"Im a pretty shit writer, I just started"<"NOT a writer, buddy. Maybe 'someone who writes' but I better not catch you calling yourself a writer until youre published."I guess. This has little to do with the other anon's original point thoUGH ("If you do it for payment, even attention or "dopamine", then you are an "Illustrator" not an artist. An artist does what they do, for the love of the art.")Clearly you CAN be an average pianist that does it for money, its fine. Again most people we consider the peak of artistry across history did it for the money.
>>43315616I agree that the money argument is a moot point.
>>43315539>unless you propose anonymous keygen musicians are more of an artist than Saint MichelangeloIf we knew Michelangelo wanted to paint horse cocks all over the Sistine Chapel, but got paid to do apes instead, while the keygen musicians are making pony references for the love of the game, yeah, I propose it.
