The background theme of the Nightmare Night episode's melody is a blatant copy of "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" from Nightmare Before Christmas. Listen to the very opening of the episode where they flash the title side by side with the song, and you can see it yourself. Can't believe Disney never caught that lmao

I can't accept that Nightmare Moon was banished 1,000 years ago. I can't accept that after Luna was banished, ponies were still able to dream. I can't accept that Celestia defeated her the same night she transformed. I can't accept that NMM is the result of an external force, the Nightmare Forces, rather than Luna using her powers with no inhibitions. I can't accept that she didn't rule for several years while Celestia did everything she could, even letting her subjects suffer months of night, to find a way to save Luna, and the tragedy is that all Celestia needed to do was apologize and empathize. I can't accept that Celestia used the Elements of Harmony instead of her own power to defeat NMM.I can't accept the entire foundational mythology of G4.
>>43287793So you're the type of person who read a bunch of fanfiction before watching the show?

>>43287796Not at all. It just doesn't make sense to me, but I've had this issue consistently. One of the reasons I can't take Japanese RPG stories seriously is because there is, invariably, something that happened 1,000 years ago. Chinese stories are even worse, with things happening millions of years ago resulting in blood feuds that exist in [present time] of the story. It's too ridiculous.
>>43287807You may need to accept that a world where myths are reality functions very differently than our own.

Been able to finish another chapter and almost finish a 2nd one, but I am starting to wonder if I should change how my story is set up. At first I wanted to tell the story a non-chronological fasion with flash backs and such for a hook and to push through the more trite sections of the fanfic. But the more I write, the more I think that its these trite sections might make the latter half of the story more impactful. Maybe I just need to limit the flash backs. Maybe I should actually fucking finish putting everything in writing before I edit it. Things were much easier writing greens and short stories. What's worse is that I have become busy with other things that get in the way.

>>43287474Every so often, I find myself thinking back to Winter Wrap Up. I like WWU, though I think the episode has a flawed set-up? premise? From what I can tell, the tradition is just... racist against unicorns? It's odd, and something that I'm sure comes from MLP's early season weirdness. Primarily Earth Pony's magic, or lack thereof. If Earth Pony's don't have magic, then it's all fine. If they do, then it's *gulp* problematic. Pegasi get an exemption since they're needed to clear the weather, which requires magic. Unless they just don't need magic to fly? The Doylist perspective on why WWU has a no magic rule makes sense to me: Twilight needs to find a talent outside of her magic. In this case, her organization skills. But the Watsonian perspective is what I struggle with. The simplest explanation to me is that the tradition is racist against unicorns.I also think about this specific line, probably more than I should: "No Spike, Ponyville was started by Earth ponies, so for hundreds of years they've never used magic to clean up winter." Originally, I thought the they in "they've never used magic" was referring to Ponyville, and the writers contradicted themselves in Family Appreciation Day. But, not only does WWU and FAD share the same writer, they also don't contradict each other if Twilight was actually referring to Earth Ponies in general. Which... still has few problems? The statement strongly implies that Earth Ponies do not have magic and conflicts with later seasons. Funnily enough, I believe there's a scene of Applejack planting a seed that immediately sprouts in this episode that is used as evidence that they do have magic. Twilight specifically mentions hundreds of years, and it's an odd time-frame to choose. I would expect it to be at least a thousand years, at which point "over a thousand years" would be a more natural phrase to use. Maybe it's just me, when I hear "hundreds of years" I think of around 600-800 years being the timeframe. It also kind of implies that winter is a new phenomenon? Or at least the need to manually clean it up. WWU would probably be as old as pony civilization if winter was always around and always needed cleaning up. Actually, how did Unicorns and Earth Ponies clean up winter before they were allied with Pegasi? Can their world follow a more natural seasonal timeframe and they just choose not to?I should probably find something else to think about.>>43291974Huh, neat. The snouts seem flat and unaligned with the rest of the face.
>>43291996>The statement strongly implies that Earth Ponies do not have magic and conflicts with later seasons.I feel like the series was setting up for a great longterm arc for Twilight learning to actually explore the magic of pegasi and earth ponies and realizing that all ponies are magical in their own ways, thus upturning the previous understanding that unicorns are the 'magic ponies', but of course the show set up far more than it ever paid off.>It also kind of implies that winter is a new phenomenon? That's a really interesting idea, the idea that ponies used to not have seasons and introduced them due to realizing that nature functioned better with them. There's no other evidence to suggest that but it is at least cool to think about.

I want to touch mare. I want to feel her pony body.
>>43287793> ponies were still able to dreamOnly thing worthy any discussion about this.I know it was probably a retcon to have Luna do something instead of simply moving the moon at night, but was it ever explained how dreams worked for over 1000 years? Or even before Luna was born and learned to enter into dreams? Was she passively interacting within the dreams while she was trapped on the moon, like what good remained of her inside NMM was still there and keeping her eyes over the dreams/nightmares as a passive guardian spirit?
>>43292026About humans or ponies?
>>43292201>>43287793The way I saw is that she doesn't make dreams for ponies, she can just manipulate them. Ponies will still dream with or without her around, she can just enter and manipulate dreams when she is around. Like someone who can manipulate fire or something. Fire doesn't cease to exist when they aren't around, they can just do shit with it other people can't. Luna is basically in perma lucid dreaming mode and can affect other ponies dreams with it.
I just shift-click frognigger threads on sight now. I sure hope you do the same.
>>43292201>>43292211I imagine they just had their normal dreams, complete with sporadically occurring nightmares. But during that time they had to just suffer through the entirety of them until they were over, or they start awake. And also not even get one of Luna's nuggets of wisdom about their worries at the end.Just like in our world!
